2027: Fubara’s brother joins Rivers guber race, pledges to serve one term

Ambassador Blessing Fubara, younger brother of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has joined the 2027 governorship race in Rivers State on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the younger Fubara pledged to restore the state’s economic prosperity and political stability if elected.

The aspirant said he was offering himself as a ready, competent and energetic candidate to “restore the soul of Rivers”.

He said that the need to reverse impoverishment of Rivers people, loss of investment, dignity and opportunities in the state spurred him into joining the race.

“Today, we see a Rivers that is distressed, shortchanged and almost seeming like a conquered state, but we are not a conquered people,” he said.

Fubara appealed to supporters in all 23 local government areas to turn out en masse at polling units to “reclaim the soul of Rivers”.

He pledged to serve a single four-year term to complete the eight-year tenure of Rivers South-East Senatorial District under the state’s political rotation arrangement.

According to him, altering the rotation of leadership and governance in the state will set a very wrong and dangerous precedent.

Omo-Agege Rejoins Senate Race After Defection To NDC

Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has rejoined the race for the Senate on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This comes days after the Delta Central senatorial dumped the APC.

A source in his camp confirmed the development to THE WHISTLER on Thursday.

“What happened in the APC primary did not diminish his political strength. If anything, it has strengthened the resolve of his supporters across Delta Central.

“He believes the people still want him to represent them and the NDC has now given him that platform,” the source added.

The ally of the former deputy senate president described the defection as “a political realignment that will change the power dynamics in Delta State ahead of 2027.”

Omo-Agege resigned from the APC after losing the party’s Delta Central senatorial primary to Senator Ede Dafinone.

In his resignation letter dated May 22 and addressed to the APC chairman in Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area, he said recent developments within the party made it impossible for him to continue pursuing his political goals under the APC.

The former deputy senate president stated that his political objectives and those of his constituents would be “better served outside the APC.”

He moved to the NDC after the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso joined the party.

The government of Enugu State in collaboration with the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), and the European Union has launched training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitalisation in public service for efficient service delivery in the state.

THE WHISTLER reports that the three-day event, holding in Enugu, is being funded by the European Union (EU).

The Officer-in-Charge of UNESCO Office in Abuja and UNESCO representative in Nigeria, Dr Dimitri Sanga, represented by Dr Nneka Okafor, Coordinator of UNESCO Recommendations on the Ethics of AI in Nigeria, said the training, mainly for senior cadres, would mark significant milestone in relation to making ethical and informed decisions on AI in the civil service of the state.

Sanga said the weight of designing and implementing development goals driven by AI and other emerging technologies is situated in administrators and policy makers.

According to him, the training would strengthen skills, share knowledge, and build the capacity needed for greater impact and better service delivery.

Quoting him, “It is a moment to commit ourselves to collaboration and to embrace the spirit of lifelong learning.”

He commended the Head of the Civil Service of Enugu State, Dr Godwin Anigbo, for his commitment in positioning the state as a partner for the training.

He said, “Such proactiveness is a huge source of inspiration that encourages us as international organisations to do more.”

He encouraged the participants to make the best use of the training in the public/civil service system/institution.

The Permanent Secretary, General Administration in the Office of the Head of Service, Dr Ogbonna Idike, commended Gov Peter Mbah for enabling the movement of public and civil servants from analog to full digitalisation.

According to him, “With this training for top personnel in ministries, departments and agencies, we are attuned to latest digitalisation and how to apply AI ethically for better service delivery.”

One of the participants, Dr Joy Ezeh, from the Office of the Auditor-General for Local Government, commended the state government and the head of service for the training meant to improve work efficiency.

Ezeh said that applying digitalisation and AI in the daily work processes would reduce human contact, improve speed, efficiency and service delivery as well as check human contact and manipulation.

  • Disclose outcome of corruption case against ex-minister Edu – Tabuko to Presidency, EFCC

Disclose outcome of corruption case against ex-minister Edu – Tabuko to Presidency, EFCC

A public affairs analyst and civic society advocate, Kennedy Tabuko, has urged President Bola Tinubu and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to make public the outcome of the corruption case against Beta Edu, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.

Tabuko made this demand in a statement on Thursday.

Recall that Edu was sacked as minister over an alleged N585 billion scandal.
Subsequently, EFCC announced the commencement of an investigation against Edu, but the outcome has not been made public.

However, reports have it that despite the minister’s pending corruption case, she has been seen in public outings with First Lady Remi Tinubu, wife of the President.

Reacting, Tabuko described the development as worrisome and a flagrant disregard for Nigerians.

He stated that President Tinubu should have prevented his wife from publicly interacting in the public space with someone whose corruption case is still pending.

Tabuko warned that the First Lady and the Presidency should not take Nigerians for granted.

“We demand that until Beta Edu’s case is decided and the EFCC makes public the corruption case against the sacked minister, it will constitute a bad public image for the government and our dear nation to see Beta Edu around the corridors of power. Mr. President and the First Lady should take note of this.

“A word they say is enough for the wise.

Again, we want to unequivocally sound this warning to the President and Commander in Chief and all the anti-corruption-related agencies that if Nigerians are not abreast with the findings of all corruption cases against Beta Edu within five days, we will take to the street to demand within the confines of the law that the right thing be done,” he stated.
