Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Olugbenga Abimbola, has advised residents of the state to report suspicious movements in their communities. 

Abimbola gave the advice when he led his officers and journalists to the house where the kidnappers used as a hideout for the abduction of the sister of the immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu and her twins. 

DAILY POST reports that the victims, abducted a few days ago, were rescued on Saturday. 

The house where they were rescued from is reportedly located at Lakon Estate, Ayegun Olojuoro Road in Ibadan and within the Oluyole local government area. 

“You have seen it all. They will kidnap people in town, and they will drive them to the house. You can see that this house is located within a premises. 

“People have been coming here without saying anything. Hopefully, what is there is that if you see something, say something. 

“If they had done that, maybe for a while, we would have arrested them. 

“They should report to the security agencies”. 

Report suspicious movement, activities in your communities – Oyo CP tells residents

An aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Innocent Ojike, has filed a suit challenging the outcome of the party’s primary election for the Oyi State Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ojike, who currently represents Oyi Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, is contesting APGA’s declaration of Kosisochukwu Ibemesi as the winner of the primary election conducted on May 23, 2026.

The suit, marked FHC/AWK/CS/173/2026, was filed at the Federal High Court in Awka by his counsel, Reuben Atabo (SAN). APGA, Ibemesi and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were listed as defendants in the case.

According to the court filings dated June 4, Ojike claimed he secured the highest number of lawful votes cast during the primary election, polling 3,524 votes. He maintained that he was duly declared the winner by what he described as the legally recognised returning officer, Dr Nnewaluem James.

The lawmaker argued that he remains the lawful candidate of APGA for the Oyi State Constituency election and cited Section 84(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, in support of his claims.

Among the 12 reliefs sought, Ojike is asking the court to nullify APGA’s declaration of Ibemesi as the winner of the primary election, which was announced on May 25, 2026.

He is also seeking an order directing APGA to submit his name to INEC as the party’s candidate for Oyi Constituency in the 2027 general election. In addition, he wants INEC to accept, publish and recognise his candidature.

Ojike further requested the court to award N100 million in exemplary damages against APGA and Ibemesi.

The court is yet to fix a date for hearing in the matter.

The Senior Pastor of Rhema Deliverance Mission in Awka, Anambra State, Dr Amaechi Nwachukwu, has backed the recent clampdown of fake pastors by Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

The state government had on Friday arraigned eight pastors who are said to have contravened the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, which included staging fake miracles to attract members.

On Saturday, Soludo again, in a public function in Nise, Awka South Local Government Area, said all eight of them had confessed to staging their miracles. He vowed to continue clamping down on them as he did in the case of native doctors.

Meanwhile, in his sermon on Sunday, Dr Amaechi Nwachukwu, an orthopaedic surgeon and Chief Medical Director of Princeton Specialist Hospital, Awka, who is also the Head Pastor in Rhema Church, Awka, backed Soludo’s actions, saying that fakes are ruining lives.

He said: “I take time to teach you every day about not getting deceived, but it is now taking the Anambra govt to point out fake pastors to you. This is something you can do by yourself if you take your Bible and our teaching seriously.

“The Bible said if you are not careful, they will deceive the very elect. That is why we teach you to follow basic principles, but the problem with many Christians is spiritual laziness. You don’t want to follow God’s direction; you want already made ones where they will feed you with fake prophecies. 

“These people confuse Christians in their operations and mix up tars and weeds, and many people don’t know the difference. They fill you with fake ideologies, targeting your pockets. They do everything to deceive you because they do not fear God. In fact, the God they preach is not the real God they believe in. They worship a different god from the one they tell you, and anything that will make them achieve their needs is what they tell you.”

Nwachukwu said such fakes have ruined many families with their prophecies, and one major way to detect them is that they have no compassion at all.

“Their major trait is impatience and lack of sympathy. Tell them it is the only money you have for children’s feeding, they tell you to go and bring it. They make it look like you must pay God to do something for you.

“You go to them for cure of headache and they give you cancer. You must desist from going to them. 

“I keep talking about it because so many of you (his congregants) are victims. If you know what they do to unsuspecting women and children, you will cry. Sometimes children disappear from their churches.

“Very soon the government will start arresting not just the pastors, but those who attend those churches because it takes two to tango.”

He concluded that joblessness on the part of most pastors is the reason they go into such scams.

“It is joblessness that makes these people to rely on swindling people. The greatest pastor in the Bible was Apostle Paul. He had a job and he was into tent making and that was the job that sustained him, not the gospel he preached. 

“Some of these people have no other job except preaching to you, yet they want all the expensive cars. You can only excuse those who are into full time ministry because they become so busy, but even at that they must confine themselves to the salaries that the churches pay them.”

Arrest of fake pastors: Preacher backs Soludo, says families have been ruined

The new Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, has charged journalists in the state to live above board by discharging their duties professionally.

She gave the charge when members of Correspondents’Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in the state paid her a courtesy visit at the weekend.

Okafor, who described journalism as a noble profession and the practitioners as watchdogs of society,  further implored them to ensure objectivity and accuracy in their reportage.

“Your job as journalists is very critical; it requires a sound mind and a good conscience.

“You should discharge your duties professionally. You should be seen to have lived above board in your duties by the society”, the CP said.

She condemned the bad impression some members of the public have of the police force because of the attitudes of some of the police officers who misbehave in the force. 

She urged such people to avoid using the actions of a few in the force to judge the entire police force and its men w,ho have sacrificed so much to secure the lives and property of the people and are still doing so.

The Police Commissioner reiterated her commitment to the security of the lives and property of the people of the state and advised the general public to report any security issues within their vicinity for prompt response.

She described Ebonyi State as one of the most peaceful states in the country,, but expressed worry over the murder cases in some communities in the state.

She called for the cooperation of journalists to end the ugly phenomenon, saying that her goal is to ensure that such incidents are curbed before she leaves the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Correspondents’Chapel chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, Comrade Uchenna Inya, said the visit was to strengthen the relationship between the police and journalists as partners in progress.

He commended the CP for her respect for human lives and dignity and quick intervention on the dehumanisation of a child by a Prophet in Izzi Local Government Area of the state which led to the arrest of the Prophet and all other culprits in the act.

Former Super Eagles defender, Efe Sodje, has suggested why Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.

Nigeria will not take part in the World Cup starting in the next few days after falling short in the CAF qualification campaign.

The Super Eagles were defeated in a penalty shootout against the Democratic Republic of Congo, who eventually secured the World Cup ticket.

However, Sodje apportioned blame to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, insisting that those managing the sport failed in terms of structure and decision-making.

“Very disappointing. With the quality of players we have, we should be there,” Sodje said, via Brila Media.

“But it’s not just the players. We have to also look at the people upstairs because decisions and structure play a big role in why we didn’t qualify.”

Nigeria will now focus on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifiers later this year.

In the midst of hardship, insecurity, and high cost of living rocking Nigerians, the Founder of the Solid Rock Kingdom Church, Apostle John Okoriko, has urged Christians to remain resolute and unshaken in faith.

Speaking during the monthly Interactive Service in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital on the theme ‘Do Yourself No Harm,’ the Cleric urged Nigerians not to consider suicide and other forms of self-destruction despite the prevailing economic condition in the country.

Okoriko regretted that many people today cannot face ugly situations, adding that if people don’t harm themselves, nothing else, including the hardship and other challenges, can harm them. He noted that force within is greater than any force outside.

” It is true that people are passing through a lot in the country, but if you have Christ in you, you can negotiate all challethe nges of life and escape from it without harming yourself. I encourage you to remain steadfast in high spirits as things will surely get better. 

“The issue is that what you see most of the time, may not be the truth about the situation. So, do not harm yourself.” He said.

The cleric also knocked prophets or pastors who collect money from people for counselling, saying that such an attitude does not reflect the virtues of Christ. 

“No true prophet or pastor will demand anything, ,be it money or other materials from victims, sick people, helpless people, dysfunctional people, or vulnerable people to pray or heal them.  Have you seen anywhere in the bible where Jesus Christ, who is our model collected money from anyone to perform miracle? But some of us are selling holy water, olive oil of 1500 sold at N7,000 or more, this is not the standard that Christ set for us!” He said.

Hardship: Remain steadfast in Christ, things will get better – Cleric urges Nigerians

Mrs. Olufunmilayo Adelabu, mother of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has recounted how she wept over the abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo state, only for her own daughter and twin grandsons to be kidnapped the following day.

Mrs Adelabu made the revelation in a viral video posted by Oyo Affairs on Sunday following the safe rescue of her last daughter, Olaide Adegoke, and her twin grandsons.

The family was abducted by gunmen on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, in Ibadan.

They were rescued ‘unharmed’ on Saturday night by police operatives during an operation in which two suspected kidnappers were neutralised.

Speaking with visible relief and joy, the elderly woman expressed gratitude to God.

“Olaide, Peter’s mother, is my daughter, my last born. I am very happy, very happy. I give thanks to God for the mercy bestowed upon me,” she said.

“That I cried and saw helpers, and saw that my children were rescued unhurt; that my children came home in peace, and I can see all three of them. I thank all those involved in ensuring they were released.”

She also spoke about other victims still in captivity, especially the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire LGA days before her family’s ordeal.

“A day before my children’s incident, I wept bitterly when I saw those children on the phone, without knowing it would happen to me too the following day,” she said.

Mrs. Adelabu continued with prayers for the remaining hostages.

“May God release them from captivity. I prayed for them too, just as I prayed for my children over the past five days. The God who freed my children from bondage will free others too. None of them will die there. They will all come home safely,” she said.

She also prayed for the government and the country.

“God will help stop such occurrences in Nigeria. God will help the government and Nigeria.”

The rescue of the Adelabu family comes amid a recent wave of kidnapping incidents in the country.

The abduction in Oriire, involving over 40 schoolchildren and teachers, sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns about insecurity in parts of the state, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.

He, however, commended security agencies for their swift responses in several instances, leading to the rescue of victims and neutralisation
