Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar’s third term ambition has suffered a set back as a section of the senatorial district has kicked against his bid.
At a press conference in Ilorin on Tuesday, National President of Patigi Emirate Development Union, PEDU, Salihu Bologi Umar, expressed deep concern over reports indicating the intention of serving senator to seek re-election for the Kwara North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group declared its position to include a “no to third term representation, respect for the established zoning tradition, Justice for Patigi local government area, two terms are sufficient and Patigi turn is now.
“Kwara North belongs to all its constituent communities equally, no individual or local government area should dominate the collective political destiny of the district at the expense of fairness, balance, and democratic justice, the group said.”
Bologi, urged all political actors, stakeholders, traditional institutions, youth groups and community leaders across Kwara North Senatorial District to uphold the principles of fairness, equity, dialogue and mutual respect in the overall interest of regional peace, political stability and democratic sustainability.
The group declared that “any attempt to deny Patigi Emirate its rightful opportunity to produce the next senator for Kwara North may compel many stakeholders and supporters within the Emirate to reconsider their political options and explore alternative democratic platforms capable of accommodating the legitimate aspirations of our people.
“This position is not intended as a threat, but as a sincere appeal for justice, inclusion and the preservation of political trust between the party and the people of Patigi Emirate.”
The national president, said, “for decades, the people and political stakeholders of Kwara North Senatorial District have sustained a respected and peaceful zoning understanding founded on the principles of justice, equity, inclusion and mutual political respect.”
Bologi, explained that the zoning arrangement, which allows for rotational representation among the constituent local government areas after every two terms or eight years, has remained instrumental in preserving political harmony, strengthening inter-community trust and promoting collective ownership of democratic representation within the senatorial district.
“It is on the basis of this long standing and widely acknowledged understanding that the people of Patigi local government area consider it both justifiable and appropriate that the 2027 Kwara North Senatorial District mandate be ceded to Patigi local government area,” the group added.

The Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Federal Capital Territory, on Tuesday docked the embattled former Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Shehu Gabam, for alleged financial misappropriation and other charges.
The case between between Gabam and the current Chairman of SDP, Sodiq Abubakar, are contained in case file No. DCC/10/2026, before the FCT Chief Magistrate Court.
Gabam, alongside Chukwuma Uchechukwu, were arraigned on six-count charges bordering on financial misappropriation at SDP amounting to over N35 million, forgery, and bridge of trust.
However, Gabam at the hearing pleaded not guilty before the judge of the Magistrate Court, Amauche Onyedium.
The magistrate therefore granted Gabam N3 million bail with two sureties within Abuja.
Speaking at the hearing, Abubakar said the opposition party decided to drag Gabam before the court in an effort to cleanse it from external influences.
“We are confident that the Judiciary will do justice to our millions of our members,” Abubakar said.
According to him, the party had asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to prosecute Gabam, but nothing was done, which is the reason they brought the matter before the judiciary.
“He squandered the party’s fund in his time between 2022 and 2023,” he noted.
Recall that Abubakar was elected as the chairman of SDP during the party’s national convention held in Bauchi on May 9th, 2026.

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (All Farmers Association of Nigeria) says food prices in the country may begin to decline by the next harvest season if governments take steps to improve security and reduce the cost of agricultural production.
The Deputy Chairman of AFAN, Lagos State Chapter, Mr Shakin Agbayewa, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.
Agbayewa said staple foods such as rice, yams, cassava, and garri could become more affordable if farmers are able to cultivate their farms safely and access inputs at subsidised rates.
According to him, insecurity, high fertiliser prices, rising fuel costs, and expensive farm operations remain the major drivers of food inflation in the country.
“The government must be intentional. Input deliberate is expensive, while tractor operations cost more because of rising fuel prices. All these affect production,” he said.
He explained that the high cost of cultivation, transportation, and insecurity challenges are ultimately passed on to consumers, contributing to rising food prices.
Agbayewa called on federal and state governments to support farmers with subsidised inputs, improved rural roads, irrigation systems, and affordable credit facilities.
He also urged stronger collaboration with farmers’ associations to develop practical solutions tailored to the needs of different states.
According to him, increased agricultural production in the coming season would naturally ease pressure on market prices, adding that Nigeria has sufficient land and manpower to achieve food self-sufficiency if the right policies are implemented.

The lawmaker said he was aware that MTN was quoted on the stock exchange, noting that Nigerian shareholders can hold on to their shares and take away South African control.
“We should re-privatise it so Nigerians can take it over, and there would be no repatriation of funds to South Africa.
During the campaign of President Ramaphosa, a major shareholder in MTN, he argued that foreigners are doing the jobs of South Africans.
“Now South Africa has high unemployment, and some have transferred aggression against other Africans. Life is more important. Nigeria should not look for investors who choose wealth over human life,” Oshiomhole said.
Responding, Rufai said, “It’s the same government that is saying they want investors. So how does that sound like when you can arbitrarily nationalize people’s shares when they come to invest in your country and you want foreign direct investment?
“So if Nigerians have chaos with any country, it is to nationalize their shares? That’s how Adams Oshiomhole sees things right? You just nationalise people’s shares like that?”

Edoho noted that while the development may be recent to the public, he has already gone through the process privately and has found emotional calm.
“While I understand that the public is only just becoming aware of this chapter, I have lived through it privately for quite some time now (almost 2 years) and have since made peace with it emotionally,” he stated.
He added that life comes in different seasons and sometimes quiet healing is the most dignified path forward, saying he is focused, at peace, and grateful for continued support.
Edoho, who was previously married to broadcaster Katherine Obiang, with whom he has three children, ended that marriage in 2010. He later married Sandra Onyenuchenuya in 2013, and the union produced two children.
