Kano ADC allocates 60% of leadership positions to Kwankwaso bloc

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State has agreed to allocate 60 per cent of its leadership positions to former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his supporters.

The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting where party members deliberated on and settled the leadership structure.

Kano ADC Chairman, Musa Ungogo, confirmed the arrangement, saying Kwankwaso’s camp would take the larger share, while the remaining 40 per cent would go to existing party members and other groups that recently joined the party.

He explained that no specific slot was reserved for former Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna, but noted that Gawuna is now aligned with Kwankwaso and would be accommodated within his group.

Ungogo said the 40 per cent share would be distributed among members from different political backgrounds, including those from the Labour Party, PDP, some defectors from the APC, SDP members, and individuals previously not active in politics.

He added, “One thing you can take home is that every group and every member is happy about the sharing formula. And secondly, all the positions that you will get from this congress today would be reached by consensus. There will be nothing to regret.”

According to him, the party is rapidly gaining popularity in Kano, with many new members joining from different political parties, including the ruling party and the PDP, as well as individuals who had stayed away from politics.

Ungogo described Kwankwaso’s move to the ADC as a major boost for the party, praising both local and national leaders for its recent growth in the state.

Troops in Borno neutralise terrorists, disrupt supply chain

The Nigerian Army says its air component of Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has neutralised scores of terrorists and disrupted their supply chain in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, in a statement on Sunday, said the success followed a carefully planned attack on insurgents, supported by intelligence reports on insurgent movements within the area.

According to the statement, scores of terrorists were neutralised following a precision air strike on a known terrorist enclave and logistics hub located near the abandoned village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area.

It said that on April 11, 2026, multiple reports were received of ISWAP gun trucks and motorcycles moving along the axis. Consequently, ISR coverage over the area was immediately intensified.

During the surveillance mission, a contingent of motorcycles was observed moving in the direction of Jilli, followed shortly by several additional vehicles converging on the same location.

It added that the air component executed a series of precision strikes on the objective, while surveillance platforms maintained continuous overwatch for real-time battle damage assessment.

Post-strike assessment confirmed that the target area was hit with high accuracy, resulting in the destruction of the identified terrorist logistics enclave.

Scores of terrorists were neutralised in the strike, with their vehicles and technicals destroyed, while surviving elements were observed fleeing in multiple directions.

“Intelligence further indicates that the neutralised elements were in the final stages of receiving logistics from couriers for coordinated attacks on troop locations within the Gubio axis.

“On 12 April 2026, a terrorist logistics courier identified as “Turja Bulu”, was arrested at Ngamdu Town, and upon preliminary investigation confessed that he took part in the attack at 29 Bde location on 9 April 2026 at Benisheik and had been dispatched by ISWAP from Jilli, where most of his fellow terrorists were hibernating, to provide food items for another group of terrorists currently hibernating around the Magumeri–Gubio general area,” the statement said.

Lagos Govt rescues child allegedly abandoned over witchcraft claims

Lagos State Government has rescued a young child reportedly abandoned and subjected to neglect following allegations of witchcraft.

The case drew public attention after a disturbing video circulated on social media, showing the toddler in a visibly distressed state.

The child appeared malnourished, clad only in a diaper, and was seen drinking from an unclean container.

The situation was first highlighted by a social media user, identified as @TheGrandmaBoy on X, who raised concerns about the child’s welfare. In the post, the user alleged that the toddler had been abandoned by her mother, who reportedly accused her of being a witch.

“Concerned neighbours raise alarm concerning a three-year-old toddler that has been literally abandoned by the mother, who believes that she’s a witch and deserves to die,” the post stated.

The user further called on relevant authorities to intervene, sharing a location in the Ipaja area of Lagos and alleging that the child was malnourished and living in unhygienic conditions. However, these claims had not been independently verified at the time.

Reacting to the development, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Print Media, Ridwan Ajetunmobi, confirmed on Sunday that the state government had stepped in.

He disclosed that the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, led a team to the location identified in the report to verify the situation.

According to him, the child has since been rescued and is now in the care of the Lagos State Government, while the police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities assured that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.

  • OPHK troops, Air Component clarifies precision strike at Jilli community of Borno

OPHK troops, Air Component clarifies precision strike at Jilli community of Borno

    By Ndahi Marama, Maiduguri

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in conjunction with its Air Component, clarified that it has neutralized the terrorists’ logistics hub and their enclave at Jilli village in the Gubio local government area of Borno State.

This is contrary to some reports, which claimed that many civilian casualties were recorded.

In a press statement signed by the Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba on Sunday, said: “The Air Component of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in a carefully, well  coordinated planned and intelligence-driven operation, has successfully conducted a precision air strike on a known terrorist enclave and logistics hub located near the abandoned village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.

“The successful strike, executed on 11 April , 2026, followed sustained intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions over the Bindul–Jilli axis, an area long identified as a major terrorist movement corridor and convergence point for Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists and their collaborators.

“It will be recalled that in January 2026, troops moving from Gubio towards Damasak came under a major Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack along the road at Bindul, resulting in the tragic loss of eight soldiers, while several others were wounded in action. More recently, on 9 April, coordinated attacks were recorded in Ngamdu and Benisheik, supported by the same terrorist logistics network. Consequently, the Theatre intensified overhead surveillance and intelligence gathering across the area in response to persistent reports of terrorist movement and logistics activity.

“On 11 April , 2026, multiple reports were received of ISWAP Gun Trucks(GT) and Motorcycles (MC) moving along the axis. Consequently, ISR coverage over the area was immediately intensified. During the surveillance mission, a contingent of motorcycles was observed moving toward Jilli, followed shortly by several additional vehicles converging on the same location.

“These suspicious movements were subsequently corroborated by credible human intelligence sources, confirming that the converging elements were terrorists, their collaborators, and logistics handlers.

“It is imperative to  state that, in line with established operational procedures, a rigorous and professional targeting process was undertaken. Target fidelity was confirmed through multiple credible Human Intelligence sources, supported by persistent aerial surveillance. Upon final validation, the Air Component executed a series of precision strikes against the objective, while Surveillance platforms maintained continuous overwatch for real-time battle-damage assessment.

“Equally important to know, the post-strike assessment confirmed that the target area was struck with high accuracy, resulting in the destruction of the identified terrorist logistics enclave. Scores of terrorists were neutralised in the strike, with their vehicles and technicals destroyed, while surviving elements were observed fleeing in multiple directions.

“Intelligence further indicates that the neutralised elements were in the final stages of receiving logistics from couriers, for coordinated attacks on troop locations within the Gubio axis. This decisive action has therefore significantly disrupted imminent terrorist plans and degraded their operational capability within the Theatre.

“Instructively, on 12 April 2026, a terrorist logistics courier identified as “Turja Bulu”, was arrested at Ngamdu Town, and upon preliminary investigation confessed that he took part in the attack at 29 Bde location on 9 April 2026 at Benisheik and had been dispatched by ISWAP from Jilli where most of his fellow terrorists were hibernating to provide food items for another group of terrorists currently hibernating around the Magumeri-Gubio General Area.

“This successful strike is yet another demonstration of the resolve and operational capability of OPHK to sustain relentless pressure on terrorist elements, disrupt their logistics networks, and deny them freedom of movement within the Theatre.

“The Theatre Command also wishes to reiterate that the use of motorcycles remains strictly prohibited across the North East operational theatre, particularly in Borno and Yobe States, due to their established and continued use by terrorist elements for movement, logistics, and attack operations. Any such movements in restricted areas are therefore treated with the utmost seriousness in line with existing operational directives.

“Additionally,  Joint Task Force (North East) OPHK assures the good people of the North East and indeed all law-abiding Nigerians, that ongoing operations will continue with renewed intensity until all terrorist enclaves are dismantled and lasting peace and economic stability are restored to the North East region”. Uba explained.

‘We need answers, not condolences’ — Sheikh Gumi demands probe over NAF airstrike

Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi has called for an urgent investigation into the Nigerian Air Force airstrike that reportedly killed more than 50 civilians at a weekly market in Jilli village along the Borno–Yobe border.

Reacting in a Facebook post on Sunday, Gumi questioned the accountability of those responsible for the operation, asking who authorised and executed the bombings that hit innocent civilians.

He cited previous incidents, including the Tudun Biri bombing and other reported strikes in Nasarawa and Sokoto, describing them as part of a troubling pattern of attacks affecting non-combatants.

Gumi argued that terrorism cannot be defeated through actions that endanger civilian lives, insisting that such operations risk undermining public trust.

He called on the Senate to immediately conduct hearings into what he described as repeated “mistakes” involving the bombing of villages, markets, and other civilian locations.

Gumi said: “Who are the pilots behind these bomb releases on innocent locals?

“Tudun biri, Nasarawa attack on herdsmen trailer, Sokoto attack etc are just the few ones recorded. Terror cannot be fought with another terror.

“There should be an immediate Senate hearings on these so-called ‘mistakes’ on bombing villages, markets and civilians targets.

    “We need answers not condolences.”

DAILY POST reported that the airstrike occurred on Saturday evening during peak trading hours at Jilli market.

Eyewitnesses said multiple fighter jets were involved in the operation.

The Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Abdulsalam Dahiru, confirmed the incident on Sunday but did not provide further details.

Reports indicate that the operation was aimed at terrorists’ targets in the area.

Kano: Garo has 90% chance to emerge as deputy governor —Doguwa

Nigeria’s House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has said that Murtala Sule Garo has a 90 percent chance of becoming deputy governor of Kano State.

He disclosed this in a statement at the weekend after a stakeholders’ meeting following a furore over who will emerge as Governor Abba Yusuf’s deputy.

He stated that the majority of political heavyweights are in support of Garo, who was the former commissioner of local government affairs.

“He secured about 90% acceptance from attendees—especially from the influential old bloc,” Doguwa stated.

According to him, Garo is a loyal, tested, and grassroots-driven politician.

“Garo is the most suitable candidate. He has remained consistent, patient, and loyal. This is the kind of support the governor needs at a critical time,” he added.

He urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to pick Garo as his preferred deputy governor.

This comes as politicians in the state battle to replace Abdussalam Aminu Gwarzo, who resigned as deputy governor.

  • Lagos PDP warns against one-party system, criticises APC governance

Lagos PDP warns against one-party system, criticises APC governance

Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairmen Forum has warned against what it described as increasing efforts by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to edge Nigeria towards a one-party system, urging citizens to safeguard the nation’s democratic framework.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos over the weekend, the Forum’s chairman, Aderounmu Wasiu Adeyemi, cautioned that weakening opposition voices could undermine democratic values and create room for authoritarian governance.

He emphasised that a functional multi-party system is vital for ensuring accountability, inclusiveness, and effective leadership.

The Forum also faulted recent urban renewal initiatives by the Lagos State Government, particularly demolitions in waterfront communities, noting that many residents were displaced without adequate consultation or resettlement arrangements. It described the situation as a humanitarian concern requiring urgent intervention.

In addition, the group expressed dissatisfaction with what it termed worsening living conditions in the state, citing challenges in healthcare delivery, especially in underserved areas, as well as rising insecurity, including cult-related violence and kidnappings.

According to the Forum, the current administration has not sufficiently addressed critical sectors such as economic stability, infrastructure, and public welfare, leading to increased hardship for residents. It added that many Lagosians feel disconnected from government policies affecting their daily lives.

The PDP leaders also called for greater unity among opposition parties to present a credible alternative capable of addressing governance challenges and restoring public confidence.

They further appealed to the judiciary to ensure timely resolution of pending legal matters involving the party, stressing the importance of justice and institutional independence.

Reaffirming its allegiance to the party’s leadership, the Forum pledged loyalty to the state executive led by Amos Fawole and the national leadership under Tanimu Turaki. It also acknowledged the contributions of prominent party figures such as Seyi Makinde and Olabode George for their roles in providing direction and stability within the party.

The Forum urged Lagos residents to remain resilient, assuring them of the opposition’s commitment to policies focused on improving welfare and overall prosperity.

Condemning what it described as growing hardship under the APC-led administration, the group said: “We unequivocally condemn the severe hardships currently being experienced by citizens under the APC-led administration. Across key sectors including economic stability, security, infrastructure, and public welfare, the government has consistently fallen short of expectations.

“It is troubling that many residents now feel alienated in their own state, subjected to policies that appear disconnected from their realities and welfare.

“At this critical moment, we must caution against the dangerous drift toward a one-party system. Such a system is incompatible with democratic ideals, as it suppresses dissent, weakens opposition, and risks paving the way for authoritarian rule.

“Nigeria’s democracy is founded on pluralism, healthy competition of ideas, and strong opposition. These principles must be preserved.

“We firmly reject any notion that Nigeria belongs to a single political party. The country belongs to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.”
