Rangers boss reacts to Emmanuel Fernandez, Tochi Chukwuani on-field clash in 6-3 win

Rangers FC manager Danny Röhl has downplayed the on-field confrontation between Emmanuel Fernandez and Tochi Chukwuani during their thrilling 6-3 win against Falkirk.

He interpreted it as an indication of increasing leadership within the team.

Fernandez confronted his teammate Tochi Chukwuani regarding his involvement in the first two goals conceded, but Chukwuani responded by scoring just before the half-time break.

Despite the intense exchange, Röhl maintained that the incident represented a positive evolution in team mentality rather than a reason for alarm.

“We were candid with one another at half-time,” Röhl stated during his post-match press conference, as reported by the Daily Record. “I particularly appreciated that the players were also forthright with each other, which is beneficial.”

He disclosed that the atmosphere in the dressing room at the interval was already charged, enabling him to concentrate more on tactical modifications than on emotional interventions.

“I was able to provide them with some instructions and solutions. And in the second half, it was one direction,” he remarked.

“It wasn’t necessary for me to inject too much emotion at half-time because the players themselves were already emotional.

“They communicated with one another. That indicates we are evolving as a group and that we have leaders in crucial moments.”

Röhl elaborated that his primary role during the break was to bolster confidence and refine the team’s strategy, especially their pressing framework.

“It was more crucial to instill my trust in them and help them believe in our approach. The other aspect was about what we needed to modify. We adjusted our pressing slightly. We had allowed the opponent too many long balls behind our defense. It was improved in the second half.

“We were more eager and proactive, which is advantageous. When I arrived, it was rather subdued. I recall after the match in Bergen, I attempted to initiate a dialogue with the players, but I ended up speaking more than they did. Now, at last, we are progressing. That is normal; it reflects the culture we aspire to establish.”

Both players played important roles in Rangers’ comeback win.

Strait Of Hormuz: Iran Calls U.S. Blockade ‘Piracy’

Iran’s armed forces have condemned the United States for what it calls an “act of piracy” after the U.S. military initiated a blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.

The move follows the breakdown of ceasefire negotiations between the two sides in Pakistan, where key disputes reportedly included control of the vital waterway, Iran’s nuclear program, and frozen assets.

A statement from Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central command, read on state television, declared: “The restrictions imposed by criminal America on maritime navigation and transit in international waters are illegal and constitute an example of piracy.”

It added that the security of ports in the region “is either for everyone or for no one,” warning that any threat to Iranian shipping would endanger all Gulf ports.

U.S. President Donald Trump had announced the blockade, stating the Navy would target vessels linked to Iranian ports and coastal areas. U.S. Central Command confirmed enforcement would begin around 10 a.m. ET, with warnings that Iranian fast-attack vessels approaching the blockade could be “eliminated.”

Officials emphasized the action aims to counter Iran’s prior restrictions on the strait.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is one of the world’s most strategic energy routes.

Global oil markets reacted with volatility as traders assessed potential supply disruptions.

The UK has indicated it will not participate in the U.S. blockade, while other allies monitor the situation closely.

This latest confrontation risks further escalation in the broader U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, with both sides exchanging strong rhetoric.

Iran has insisted it maintains the right to control passage in the strait under certain conditions, while the U.S. frames its actions as necessary to prevent extortion and ensure open navigation.

As of Monday afternoon, reports indicated tanker movements were being affected, with some vessels racing to exit the area ahead of full enforcement.

The situation remains fluid, with potential for direct naval confrontations if tensions are not de-escalated.

ICPC files amended nine-count charge against El-Rufai

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has filed an amended nine-count charge against former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, alleging fraud, abuse of office and corruption.

Counsel for the former governor, Ukpong Abang, told journalists after proceedings at the Kaduna State High Court on Monday that the prosecution had dropped one of the earlier defendants, leaving El-Rufai as the sole accused.

The court took the former governor’s plea and heard his bail application, but Abang explained that the defence could not proceed because the amended charges were served on Monday.

According to him, “The charges are entirely new to us. They were given to us this morning while we were already in court. That is why the matter could not proceed to a hearing.”

He explained that the defence would analyse the charges before taking further steps. The court adjourned the case to Tuesday, April 14, for a ruling on the bail application.

In the charge marked KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/2026, the ICPC alleges that El-Rufai committed multiple offences during his tenure as governor, including alleged N11 billion rail fraud and a $1 million loan breach.

The former governor is accused of inducing the Kaduna State Government in 2016 to confer a benefit of N11 billion on Indokaduna MRTS JV Nigeria Limited for a light rail project that was allegedly never executed.

In the second and third counts, it is alleged that he used his office to approve and receive severance benefits of about N289.8 million, far above the legally approved N20 million.

On the fourth count, he is also alleged to have dishonestly disposed of over $1 million, part of a World Bank loan to Kaduna State, in violation of the loan agreement.

El-Rufai is further accused of conspiring with others still at large to offer inducements to federal investigators in a bid to compromise an ongoing probe.

He is also alleged to have violated procurement laws in a multi-billion-naira CCTV contract, conferred undue advantage on associates, and carried out unlawful land allocations.

The ICPC had previously arraigned El-Rufai alongside businessman Amadu Sule before Justice Darius Khobo on allegations of abuse of office, fraud and granting undue advantage.

The former governor had been in ICPC custody from February 19 until March 28, when he was released on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial.

  • Wike Visits Kugbo Bus/Taxi Terminal After Destruction

Wike Visits Kugbo Bus/Taxi Terminal After Destruction

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says repairs have begun on the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, partly destroyed by a rainstorm.

Wike, who stated this in Abuja on Monday, after he inspected some ongoing projects, said that the development was caused by a natural disaster that no one had control over.

The incident occurred on April 7, when a rainstorm blew away the terminal’s roof and deposited the debris on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway.

The Minister, who thanked God that no life was lost, said that only roofing sheets were affected, adding that the terminal did not collapse.

Insisting that the terminal’s structure was intact, the minister added that the damages were already being fixed.

“What happened was that a strong wind blew off parts of the roof, but repairs are ongoing,” he said.

The Kugbo bus/taxi terminal is one of the three newly built terminals inaugurated in June 2025.

Wike inaugurated the construction of bus and taxi terminals in Mabushi, Central Business District (CBD), and Kugbo in July 2024, to enhance commuter safety and convenience.

He explained that the bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, though completed and inaugurated in 2025, could not begin operations because their management was above ministerial approval.

He said that the completed terminals would begin operations soon following approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The minister, however, said that President Bola Tinubu and FEC had approved the management of the bus terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo, based on a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.

  • Top 5 camera phones for mobile photography & videography

Top 5 camera phones for mobile photography & videography

Phone cameras have quietly evolved into serious creative tools. Today’s smartphones are sharper, faster, and more capable than ever: often rivaling dedicated cameras in certain situations.

But with so many “flagship” devices claiming the best camera, which ones actually stand out?

The truth is, there’s no single perfect camera phone. The best choice depends on how you shoot—whether you’re capturing everyday moments, cinematic videos, or long-range detail from a distance. To make things easier, we’ve rounded up five of the best camera phones right now for mobile photography and video creation.

    1. iPhone 17 Pro

Apple continues to dominate mobile photography with its refined processing and consistent image quality. The iPhone 17 Pro features a powerful 48MP ProRAW system that delivers exceptional detail and dynamic range, making it a strong choice for photographers who love editing flexibility.

Its quad-pixel sensor allows for smart cropping without major quality loss, while Apple’s updated image processing improves low-light performance and color accuracy. However, its “optical-quality zoom” is still largely crop-based, meaning it performs best at standard focal lengths rather than extreme zoom.

    2. iPhone 15 Pro Max

The iPhone 15 Pro Max remains one of the strongest mobile filmmaking tools available. With 4K recording up to 60fps, Dolby Vision HDR, and Apple’s LOG video profile, it delivers footage that can be professionally color graded.

Its 5x optical zoom adds flexibility for cinematic framing, while improved stabilization makes handheld shooting smooth and reliable. When paired with accessories like a cage or external LUTs, it becomes a serious mini production rig.

    3. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung’s flagship is built for reach and versatility. The S24 Ultra stands out with its advanced telephoto system, including a 5x optical lens and impressive digital zoom capabilities that stay surprisingly sharp.

It also features a 50MP sensor that supports high-quality cropping for distant subjects like concerts or sports. While its AI processing can sometimes feel aggressive, its zoom performance is still among the best in the smartphone world.

    4. Google Pixel 9 Pro

The Pixel 9 Pro shines with its simplicity and consistency. Google’s computational photography delivers excellent skin tones, strong HDR performance, and some of the most reliable point-and-shoot results available.

While its video capabilities lag slightly behind Apple’s flagship devices, its still photography output is clean, natural, and incredibly easy to use. It’s a strong option for users who want great results without manual adjustments.

    5. OnePlus 10 Pro

The OnePlus 10 Pro delivers solid camera performance at a more affordable price point. Developed in collaboration with Hasselblad, it offers accurate colors and a capable triple-camera system that handles everyday shooting well.

Its ultra-wide lens stands out thanks to reduced edge distortion, and manual controls give creators more flexibility than most phones in its class. While it doesn’t compete directly with ultra-premium flagships, it offers strong value for money.

APC supporters rally in Keffi, endorse Ex-IGP Adamu for guber race

    By Precious Enaike

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday turned out en masse in Keffi, Nasarawa State capital, in a solidarity rally for Ex-IGP Mohammed Abukakar Adamu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adamu, has signified interest in contesting for the governorship of Nasarawa State under the platform of the APC.

The mega rally coordinated by the members of the Mohammed Abukakar Adamu Support Group Organisation (MAASGO), and which began before midday was carnival-like as supporters sporting branded tshirts and vests with different inscriptions thronged out in large numbers converging at the starting point at the Nasarawa State University, NSUK Gate, Keffi, from where the procession moved to other parts of the metropolis.

The procession accompanied by drummers, flutists and others moved from streets-to-streets sharing pamphlets showcasing the achievements and performance records of the retired top cop while he held sway at the Nigerian Police Force.

The supporters bearing different placards with inscriptions such as ‘Muje IGP 2027’ (Let’s go IGP 2027), ‘Nasarawa Project MA 2027’, ‘Walin Lafia for Governor of Nasarawa State,’ ‘Tinubu/Rtd IGP Adamu We Know 2027 Join the Moving Train now,’ and several others, openly canvassed support for the candidacy of the Ex-IGP Adamu ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Addressing newsmen during the rally, Awal Nurain, a member of the support group, accompanied by other members said the mega rally today officially marked the beginning of the mobilisation and campaign for Ex-IGP Adamu by his support group.

While giving the rationale behind the rally, Nurain argued that the candidacy of the Ex-IGP Adamu has been well received by the people of Nasarawa State judging by the show of solidarity from people from different walks of life.

According to him, “As you can see the mega rally today has been massive. It is there for all to see in the massive crowd that came out today to canvass support for the retired IGP Adamu. The love and support from our people is really overwhelming. This shows that he is truly a man of the people and Nasarawa State will be very lucky to have someone like him as governor come 2027.

Expatiating, Nurain said, the Ex-IGP Adamu has had a record of excellent performance and meritorious service all through his career in the police force hence the people are convinced that he will do better even as the governor of Nasarawa State.

“I’m more than convinced that Retired IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has what it takes to lead Nasarawa State as the governor. If we go by his past records of performance in public service as a police officer where he rose through the ranks to become the IGP, that is no mean feat by any standards,” he said.

“The people of Nasarawa State will be lucky to have him as governor and that is why members of the Mohammed Abukakar Adamu Support Group Organisation (MAASGO), have no qualms at all throwing our weight behind him and want to rally support for him ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he reiterated.

With the APC gearing up for the party primaries across the state of the federation, gubernatorial hopefuls like Ex-IGP Adamu, who is contesting for the first time in an elective position, are not leaving any stone unturned in their quest to gain political advantage using the vehicle of social mobilisation.

  • ‘No warning’: Survivors say Nigerian air force bombed packed market

‘No warning’: Survivors say Nigerian air force bombed packed market

The market was packed, like it was every Saturday, when the Nigerian air force jets screamed overhead.

Soon after, swathes of trading stalls at a market in Jilli, a small town in Nigeria’s northeastern Yobe state, were reduced to ash, with incinerated bodies lying in the rubble, a video from the scene shared with AFP shows.

Survivors, human rights groups and local officials say it is yet another massacre of civilians by the Nigerian air force.

The Nigerian military said it targeted a “logistics hub” located “near the abandoned village of Jilli”, on the Borno-Yobe state border, targeting militants from Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

But according to a conflict monitoring report prepared by the UN and seen by AFP, the strikes hit the Jilli market and “mistakenly killed at least 56 people,” with local chief Lawan Zanna Nur saying that the dead and injured together numbered “around 200”.

“I don’t know if there were jihadists at the market. We are just ordinary people,” Mala Garba, 42, told AFP from a hospital in Borno state capital Maiduguri while recovering from bullet wounds.

He was among the 46 victims from the town an AFP reporter saw at the hospital, some heavily bandaged, others with IV drips attached.

The governor of Borno state, the epicentre of Nigeria’s 17-year-long jihadist insurgency, said the government shut the market down five years ago.

But Yusuf Bagana, a tailor who survived the strike, said it was operating normally.

He told AFP he “didn’t know” about any closure orders and “was just focusing on my daily activities” before the bombing knocked him unconscious.

The “airstrike hit the entire Jilli town,” said Garba. “All of us were living in the town. There was no warning.”

    – Living under, among jihadists –

During the peak of Nigeria’s insurgency, about a decade ago when ISWAP forerunner-turned-rival Boko Haram controlled swathes of territory, “some elders knew there were Boko Haram and informants around,” Garba said.

More recently, he said, in 2023 the army conducted house-to-house searches in the village and arrested two people. But there had not been any major security incidents since then, he added.

A security source told AFP that jihadists “control” and collect taxes from the market.

Pictures released by the military showed trucks and motorcycles allegedly belonging to jihadists amid what appeared to be a crowded market — with one of the photos even labelled “market”. Photos then show the site destroyed by strikes.

The Nigerian air force said it is investigating reports of civilian casualties.

When civilians are killed by the military, they are often accused of “harbouring” jihadists, said Isa Sanusi, country director at Amnesty International Nigeria — an accusation that is often impossible to distinguish from simply living under jihadist control, as many Nigerians do across swathes of the northeastern countryside held by the militants.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, spokesman for operations in the northeast, said that the strikes followed “sustained intelligence” and “a rigorous and professional targeting process”.

The military also said the strike hit targets that were affiliated with the killing of a Nigerian brigadier general last week, the second killing of a high-ranking officer in five months.

But Sanusi, who spoke to local residents and shared the video of the scorched market with AFP, said that militants simply being present did not justify the high civilian death toll.

“If the market is entirely run by insurgents, that is a different story,” he told AFP. “But if the allegation is that insurgents used the market, that makes their claim very baseless.”

    – US says not involved –

The United States, which has sent troops to the country to train the Nigerian military, including in target selection, was “not involved in the planning, intelligence sharing, or execution of this operation,” a US Africa Command spokesperson told AFP.

Over the years, Nigerian airstrikes have repeatedly killed civilians, with Human Rights Watch warning after a deadly strike in January that “such deaths have become a recurring feature”.

Issa Mammane, another man recovering in Maiduguri hospital, told AFP that “five members of my family were killed” in the strikes.

Across Borno state, the violence has continued.

On Sunday, about 150 kilometres away from Jilli, ISWAP militants struck the garrison town of Monguno, near Lake Chad.

Ten soldiers, including a colonel, were killed, two anti-jihadist militia sources told AFP.
