  • Bellingham Says Camavinga Red ‘A Joke’ As Real Fury Grows

Bellingham Says Camavinga Red ‘A Joke’ As Real Fury Grows

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has said the decision to send off team-mate Eduardo Camavinga during their 4-3 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich was “a joke”.

Substitute Camavinga, who was only on the pitch for 24 minutes, was shown a second yellow card in the 86th minute for kicking the ball away and delaying a Bayern free-kick following a foul on Harry Kane.

As Bellingham walked past reporters on his way to the team bus in Munich, he was asked about the late dismissal that proved pivotal to the result of the quarter-final second leg.

“A joke,” he said in Spanish, shaking his head as he continued on. “Impossible that it is a red.”

With Wednesday’s tie level on aggregate at 4-4 the time, the decision left Real to see out the closing stages with 10 men, as Bayern scored two late goals to win 6-4 on aggregate and progress to the semi-finals.

It ruined the game – Arbeloa

England midfielder Bellingham was not alone in his frustration. Several Real players reacted strongly both during and after the match.

Defender Antonio Rudiger hinted his disapproval but stopped short of direct criticism.

“It’s best I don’t talk about the referee. Did you see the red card?” he told the media.

Club captain Dani Carvajal, who did not feature in the match, confronted referee Slavko Vincic from the touchline following the incident.

Television footage showed him shouting angrily and pointing towards the official after Camavinga’s dismissal.

“It’s your fault,” Carvajal is seen shouting.

Arda Guler, who scored Real’s first two goals, was given a red card in the aftermath of the defeat after storming over to the referee.

He wrote on Instagram after the game: “This isn’t how it should’ve been. We’re very sorry. We will be back. Hala Madrid.”

Guler will now miss the first game of next season’s league phase.

Manager Alvaro Arbeloa said the sending-off “obviously” decided the match, insisting: “You can’t send a player off for something like that.

“Nobody understands how a player can be sent off for that.

“I think the referee took out the card because he did not know Camavinga was booked already, because it was up to Bayern’s players to go and tell him it was the second card.

“It’s a double mistake besides not knowing he already had a yellow. It ruined a match that was going really well, very evenly matched. It was at its peak. That was the end of the game.”

Spanish journalist Juan Castro described the mood of those at Real as one of disbelief.

“People are very angry at the referee,” he said. “They are very worried about what has happened in Munich. This will have consequences.

“The second yellow card to Camavinga, you cannot give it in a Champions League match at that moment, when both teams are level. You cannot give it.

“You could see all the players going against the referee. From Madrid’s perspective, that decision shifted the balance to Bayern Munich.”

    Bayern Munich players react
Luis Diaz’s thunderous strike came shortly after Camavinga’s sending off, putting Bayern 5-4 ahead on aggregate before Michael Olise’s sublime curler flew in off the post in the 94th minute to put the tie beyond doubt.

Speaking after the match, Diaz said he had a clear view of the Camavinga incident and backed the referee’s call.

“I think the referee was right to send him off. We wanted to take the free-kick quickly and he didn’t release the ball.

“Obviously, the red card really lifted our spirits and we said ‘This has to be it – this is the moment’, and that’s exactly how it turned out.

“Games like this are decided by small details but we were already pushing and creating chances.”

Bayern goalscorer Harry Kane focused on the importance of the win.

“Obviously the sending off helped us a little bit but we had to take our moments at the end of the game and with Lucho [Luis Diaz] and Mike [Olise], we did that.”

European football governing body Uefa said its disciplinary body will review the referee’s report before deciding whether any further action is required.

Bayern will face Paris St-Germain in the semi-finals, while the 15-time winners’ exit is likely to be overshadowed by controversy around one of the defining decisions of the tie.

Patricklingo Holds Medical Outreach For Imo Police, Donates Medicine

In a significant boost to the welfare of frontline security personnel, Patricklingo Pharmaceuticals has donated essential medicines and conducted a medical outreach for officers of the Imo State Police Command.

The outreach, held at the Command headquarters in Owerri, was aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of officers whose demanding responsibilities often limit their ability to prioritize personal wellbeing.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Patrick Onwuelingo, said the initiative was driven by growing health concerns among police officers, particularly the prevalence of hypertension linked to occupational stress.

Citing a 2025 survey published in the Nigerian Health Journal, Onwuelingo noted that about 49.7 per cent of officers are hypertensive, a development he attributed to the pressures of policing and exposure to insecurity as first responders.

“Usually, when people see a police uniform in Nigeria, their first instinct is to think about law and order. But I see fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters who risk their lives every day so that others can be safe,” he said.

He described police work as physically exhausting and mentally demanding, noting that officers often neglect their own health while safeguarding the public.

Onwuelingo stressed that healthcare should not be a luxury for those who dedicate their lives to public safety, adding that the donated medicines were carefully selected to address common health challenges faced by officers.

He further explained that the company remains committed to making meaningful contributions beyond pharmaceutical production, expressing hope that the outreach would mark the beginning of sustained collaboration with the police and other public institutions.

“We are not just focused on products; we believe in people, community, and responsibility. This initiative is about creating real impact in the lives of those who serve the nation,” he added.

Onwuelingo also commended the Commissioner of Police in the state, Audu Garba Bosso, for his leadership, while appreciating officers for their dedication and sacrifices.
In his response, Bosso thanked the company for the gesture, describing it as timely and beneficial to the health and efficiency of the Command.

He emphasized that the well-being of officers remains critical to maintaining an effective and responsive police force, adding that partnerships between private organisations and public institutions are vital in promoting community welfare and supporting those charged with protecting lives and property.

The outreach underscores the growing role of corporate organisations in supporting public institutions, particularly in addressing healthcare challenges faced by security personnel.

Police Officer Arrested For Fatal Filling Station Robbery In Kantagora

A 20-year-old fuel attendant is dead and a serving Mobile Police officer is in custody following an armed robbery at a filling station in Kontagora, Niger State — a case that has once again cast a disturbing spotlight on the growing problem of criminal activity among uniformed security personnel in Nigeria.

Jibrin Inuwa was shot in the chest at Garun Mallam Filling Station, behind BCG Garage, on Wednesday, after he reportedly resisted two armed men who had pulled up on a motorcycle and demanded money following a fuel purchase.

He was rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where doctors confirmed him dead. His remains were released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.

What made the robbery stand out — and what has since deepened public unease — was the identity of one of the suspects. Inspector Jido Ahmed, a serving officer attached to 61 PMF Kontagora and currently on special duty in Agwara, was arrested after a gun duel with police patrol teams in the Dadinkowa area. He had reportedly been dressed in a mobile police uniform during the attack.

Ahmed was shot in the leg during the confrontation, disarmed, and taken into custody. An AK-47 rifle with serial number 38262 and 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from him.

He was treated at the General Hospital, Kontagora, and later referred to the Police Clinic in Minna.

A second suspect escaped and remains at large, with security operatives said to be closing in.

For security analysts, the case is symptomatic of a deeper institutional crisis within Nigeria’s security forces — one that goes beyond isolated misconduct.

In an interview with THE WHISTLER, Usman Garba, a security analyst who tracks crime patterns across the North-West said “What we are seeing in Kontagora is not an isolated incident .

“When uniformed officers deploy state-issued weapons to rob and kill civilians, it signals a fundamental breakdown of internal discipline, vetting, and accountability within the security apparatus.

“The institution needs to urgently address how its personnel are monitored, especially those on special postings away from their primary formations.”

Garba warned that the pattern of security personnel being implicated in violent crimes risked eroding the already fragile trust between communities and law enforcement in the North-West, a region already under severe pressure from banditry and terrorism.

“Residents in communities like Kontagora rely on law enforcement as a last line of protection.

“When that trust is destroyed by the very people sworn to protect them, it creates a vacuum that criminal networks and non-state actors are quick to exploit,” he said.

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and said investigation is ongoing.

Beyond the prosecution of Inspector Ahmed, analysts say the command faces equally urgent questions about how a serving officer allegedly turned his uniform and his rifle into tools of crime — and what systemic failures allowed it to happen.

Edo govt offers scholarship to children of late Brig-Gen Braimah

The Edo State Government has offered scholarships to three children of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah killed by Boko Haram in Borno State.

DAILY POST reports that the late Brigadier General an indigene of the state was the Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, a Joint Military Task Force base in Benisheik located along the 132-kilometre Maiduguri-Damaturu road in Borno state.

Brigadier Braimah and other military officers were last Wednesday, April 8, 2026 killed during an attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in the 29 Task Force in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

They were buried on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Top government officials, senior military commanders and other representatives were present to honour fallen personnel who lost their lives in ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the North-East sub-region.

Okpebholo who described the death of the military officer and others as sad noted that the scholarship is both a moral obligation and a demonstration of responsible governance.

He noted that Brigadier General Braimah’s death represents a profound sacrifice in the service of Nigeria.

He gave the names of the beneficiaries as Farida Hussain-Braimah (18), a 100-level Software Engineering student at Nile University, Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah (16) currently in SS3 at Olumawu Senior School, Abuja; and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah (12), a JSS2 pupil at Olumawu Junior Secondary School, Abuja.

The Governor added that Brigadier General Braimah paid the ultimate price in service to the country, opining that it is only right that the government stand by the family he left behind and ensure his children have uninterrupted access to education.

He reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to support the children throughout their academic journey, positioning them for stable and meaningful futures.

Okpebholo explained that the scholarship initiative aligns with the education pillar of his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which places emphasis on human capital development, social welfare, and inclusive governance.

According to him, no child of an Edo hero should be denied the opportunity to succeed. This is about responsibility, honour, and a deliberate investment in the future.

He, however, called on other state governments and private sector stakeholders to emulate the initiative by providing structured support—particularly in education—to families of military personnel who die in the line of duty.

Meanwhile, the Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, announced a donation of N50 million in financial assistance to the families of late Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and seven other officers and soldiers.

Zulum said the financial support was to cushion the effect of the tragic loss of the officers on their families.
