IGP Visits NSCDC Boss To Deepen Collaboration

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to the national headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.

The visit was aimed at reinforcing the working relationship between the two security agencies, according to a statement by NSCDC National Publication Officer, Afolabi Babawale.

Disu, while addressing the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Audi, and senior officers, said his visit was to deepen existing cooperation. He noted that both agencies share the responsibility of safeguarding lives and property and called for stronger alignment in tackling security challenges.

Babawale quoted Disu as saying, “We must encourage one another as we confront contemporary security challenges. We often fight difficult battles in demanding terrains; therefore, we must share intelligence and operate as a unified front to achieve lasting peace.”

In his response, Audi reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to sustained collaboration with the police. He said the NSCDC has a long history of working with the police and is ready to improve coordination to address evolving security threats.

Audi added that collaboration, cooperation and coordination remain essential for effective security operations.

He also urged citizens to be more proactive in security matters by sharing intelligence with relevant agencies.

Spanish Super Cup: Two teams qualify for next year’s tournament

Two teams have secured their presence at next year’s Spanish Super Cup, with the tournament’s remaining spots all but certain to be filled by LaLiga’s current top two.

As the 2025/26 campaign winds down, several key outcomes are still to be decided in the final stretch of LaLiga fixtures.

The two teams that will finish first and second in the LaLiga table will qualify for the next Super Cup as league champions and runners-up, according to AS.

So far, the only sides officially booked for the 2027 Super Cup are this season’s Copa del Rey finalists—winners Real Sociedad and runners-up Atletico Madrid.

With only seven matches left, Barcelona (79 points) and Real Madrid (70 points) have built a commanding cushion over the chasing pack.

Third-placed Villarreal, on 61 points, looks highly unlikely to close that gap considering the number of matches left.

However, mathematically, neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid has officially secured their Super Cup ticket just yet.

But if the current LaLiga standings hold, the Super Cup semifinals would pair Atletico Madrid with Barcelona, and Real Sociedad with Real Madrid.

BREAKING: Tinubu Sacks Edun, Dangiwa As Finance, Housing Ministers

…Elevates Oyedele As Coordinating Minister For The Economy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two cabinet members and the appointment of new officials to key ministries in a move aimed at strengthening governance and economic coordination.

The announcement was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

According to the statement, Mr. Wale Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, are to exit the cabinet as part of the restructuring.

The Presidency said the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance cohesion within the Federal Executive Council and improve the delivery of economic and development priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Following the reshuffle, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to assume the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Until his new appointment, he served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance. He is expected to take over full responsibilities after formal handover arrangements with Mr. Edun.

In the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as Ministerial Nominee and Minister-Designate.

He is expected to assume office following completion of the required administrative processes.

Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.

The memo further instructed that all handover and takeover procedures must be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026, in line with established government transition protocols.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, SGF George Akume said the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.

He noted that the objective was to improve synergy, coordination, and overall effectiveness within the cabinet.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.

The SGF added that the President remains committed to continuous review and reinvigoration of the Federal Executive Council to ensure it remains responsive to national priorities.

Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation, acknowledging their contributions during their tenure and wishing them success in their future endeavours.

The Presidency reiterated that the reshuffle is part of a broader effort to reposition key sectors of government for improved performance, particularly in finance, housing, and economic management.

Dispatch Rider Dies In Otedola Bridge Crash

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a dispatch rider in a crash at Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat along the Ogudu Toll Gate corridor.

The agency said the incident occurred less than 24 hours after a similar tragedy in the area.

LASTMA, in a statement by its spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, on Tuesday, said the crash involved a Volvo heavy-duty truck and a dispatch motorcycle, with the rider pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact. It added that its operatives on routine patrol responded promptly, securing and cordoning off the area to prevent secondary accidents, especially due to the heavy vehicular movement along the corridor.

“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) deeply regrets to announce a tragic road traffic incident that culminated in the untimely death of another dispatch rider in less than 24 hours at Otedola Bridge inward Secretariat along the Ogudu Toll Gate corridor.

“The fatal crash involved a heavy-duty Volvo truck and a dispatch rider. The devastating impact resulted in the immediate loss of the rider’s life at the scene, further accentuating the growing concerns surrounding the vulnerability of dispatch riders on major highways,” LASTMA said in a statement.

Taofiq said the remains of the deceased were handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who were present to support traffic management operations.

Police officers from the Alausa Division were also deployed to maintain order during the evacuation process, while the affected vehicles were subsequently removed by a tow truck.

According to Taofiq, despite the swift response, the incident caused traffic congestion stretching towards the Berger axis before normalcy was restored.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condoled with the family of the deceased.

He called for stricter adherence to traffic regulations and increased vigilance among road users, particularly truck drivers and dispatch riders.
