Security Operatives Nab Notorious Criminals, Bandits Terrorising Rivers Community

Security operatives in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State have arrested two suspected criminals linked to a series of criminal activities, including the theft of a vehicle within the area.

The arrest followed a directive by the Chairman of Eleme LGA, Hon. Obariollormate Ollor, who, at the inception of his administration, declared zero tolerance for criminality and vowed that the council would no longer serve as a safe haven for lawbreakers.

Acting on this mandate, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the council, Mr. Greg Emere, alongside his team, launched a coordinated security operation tagged “Operation Red Alert,” aimed at flushing out criminal elements across the LGA.

According to reports , the suspects had been on the radar of security operatives since April 5, 2026, when a stolen Toyota Corolla was discovered hidden along the New Road axis in Onne. Subsequent investigations reportedly traced the crime to the arrested individuals, prompting an intensive manhunt.

The suspects were eventually apprehended after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crimes.

Authorities confirmed that the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for prosecution, emphasizing that the council remains committed to upholding the rule of law.

Officials also reiterated that there would be no room for jungle justice in Eleme, assuring residents that due legal processes would be followed while efforts to rid the area of criminal elements continue.

UMTH opens probe into alleged medical negligence as activist demands reforms

The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital has initiated an internal investigation following a petition alleging medical negligence, with hospital authorities pledging accountability and systemic reforms.

The petitioner, legal practitioner and rights activist, Hamza N. Dantani, disclosed that he was invited to present an oral account of the incident at a high-level meeting convened by the hospital’s management.

According to him, the session was attended by the Chief Medical Director, members of the hospital’s management team, legal representatives, and stakeholders, including officials from the Public Complaints Commission.

A week ago, DAILY POST reported how the petitioner accused the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital of gross medical negligence and professional misconduct following the death of his father.

Speaking after the meeting, Dantani said the Chief Medical Director assured participants that, “a thorough investigation into the matter has been initiated” and that appropriate measures would be taken in line with established procedures.

“My objective is not to seek compensation or tarnish the image of the institution,” Dantani stated. “It is to push for systemic improvements that will prevent future occurrences.”

He emphasized the need for reforms within the hospital system, including enhanced supervision, regular monitoring, and stricter oversight of healthcare personnel, particularly in response to recurring complaints of alleged negligence.

The hospital management, he added, reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a comprehensive review of the issues raised, with a view to strengthening service delivery and restoring public confidence.

In a parallel move, the Public Complaints Commission has launched an independent investigation into the matter. Dantani confirmed that he had been invited to provide further clarifications and recommendations, noting that the commission is actively pursuing its mandate.

“The demand here is not for compensation but to ensure such incidents do not happen again and to improve healthcare delivery for the wider society,” he said.

He also called for improved welfare for healthcare workers, arguing that better working conditions, alongside stricter supervision, are essential to achieving sustainable outcomes in the health sector.

Dantani expressed appreciation to members of the public whose reactions and engagement helped draw attention to the issue.

“The public response played a crucial role in prompting the hospital to act with urgency,” he noted.

While commending the hospital’s leadership for engaging stakeholders, he urged that the assurances given must translate into concrete action.

EPL: I can’t lie – Rosenior reveals why Chelsea lost 3-0 to Brighton

Chelsea manager, Liam Rosenior, has hit out at his players following their 3-0 defeat at Brighton in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Rosenior questioned their attitude and determination as they lost their fifth consecutive league fixture.

Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck all scored for the Seagulls as they leapfrogged the Blues into sixth place.

“We need to look in the mirror. I need to look in the mirror,” Rosenior said.

“But I can’t keep coming out here and defending some of the things that we’re seeing.

“Manchester United, genuinely result wasn’t there but I felt we turned a corner.

“But the general attitude, spirit was lacking – determination from three or four of the starting eleven. That’s nowhere near enough for this club.

“I can’t come out and lie. I tell the truth. That was an unacceptable performance at every level.”

2027: Akwa Ibom Speaker’s third term bid in dilemma as kinsmen pass vote of no confidence

The third term reelection ambition of Akwa Ibom State Speaker, Mr Udeme Otong may hit the rocks following the open rejection by his kinsmen in the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abak Local government.

Addressing a press conference in Abak Local government on Tuesday, Hon Rock Dick, who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, accused the Speaker of attempt to circumvent the zoning arrangement earlier agreed and endorsed by political leaders of the constituency in 2023 and perpetuate himself in office

He alleged that the Speaker even signed the agreement and became the first beneficiary of the agreement and wondered why he feigned ignorance of such an agreement, saying such attempt undermined the trust and unity of the people.

He said, “The people of Abak have, in clear terms, passed a vote of no confidence in the incumbent House of Assembly member and Speaker.

“We unequivocally reject any attempt, by any individual or group, to distort, truncate, or disregard the duly agreed zoning formula for Abak State Constituency.

‎”That the 2023 zoning agreement remains binding, valid, and sacrosanct, representing a moral and political contract among the clans of Abak, which must be respected in the interest of peace, unity, and justice.

‎”That equity demands that Midim Clan, which has not produced a State Assembly representative since 1999 despite comprising two wards, be given the opportunity to occupy the seat in 2027, rather than perpetuate a lopsided arrangement that has seen Abak Clan dominate the position for over sixteen years.”

However, efforts to speak with the Speaker proved abortive as at press time as he was not picking calls put across by journalists.

But, his Press Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Ebong, said the people have the right to say whatever they want to say.

According to him, “They have the right to say whatever they want to say because we are in a democracy, but I know that the Speaker has done his best for the people. It’s only God that determines who becomes who in any society “
