Bayern Munich take final decision on signing Chelsea striker, Nicolas Jackson on permanent transfer

Bayern Munich have finally decided not to sign Chelsea striker, Nicolas Jackson on a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Jackson will return to the Premier League west London club in June as Bayern are not triggering the €65m buy option clause in his loan deal.

As a result, Chelsea and Jackson’s camp will assess the player’s future with a possible new move in the summer.

Recall that Jackson had joined Bayern on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea last summer.

The Senegalese international was not in manager Enzo Maresca’s plans for the current season.

However, Jackson could end up playing for Chelsea next season when a new permanent manager is appointed.

Recall that Maresca had parted ways with the Bleus a few months ago, while his replacement, Liam Rosenior, was recently sacked.

Trump, top US officials evacuated as armed man attacks White House dinner

United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were abruptly evacuated on Saturday night after gunfire erupted near the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.

The incident occurred at the venue’s main security screening area when a man armed with a shotgun attempted to breach security and opened fire, according to officials.

A United States Secret Service agent was struck but escaped injury due to protective gear.

Security operatives swiftly removed the president, first lady, and other senior officials from the hall as panic spread among the roughly 2,600 attendees.

Guests reportedly dove for cover under tables while agents secured the area.

Among those forced to the ground by security were senior cabinet members, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was quickly apprehended, and no government officials were harmed.

In a post on Truth Social shortly after the incident, Trump praised law enforcement, stating that all top officials, including the vice president and cabinet members, were “in perfect condition.”

    “Shooter had been apprehended.”

“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job,” Trump added.

He also announced plans to address the nation at a press conference later that night.

The event was subsequently cancelled, with Trump expressing hope it could be rescheduled within 30 days.

Fate Of Redeemed, CAC Pastors, Families Abducted In Kogi State Unknown

There is panic over the fate of some clerics with the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Christ Apostolic Church who were reportedly abducted by gunmen at Odo-Eri community in the Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

While the police authorities claimed to have intensified efforts to rescue the victims, who were kidnapped along with some family members, there have been no response from the affected church leadership.

It was gathered that the gunmen, who were close to 30 in number, stormed the community around 10pm on Wednesday.

They were said to be on motorcycles as they fired indiscrimninately to scare residents.

The hoodlums then proceeded to abduct the clerics, their wives, children and other residents.

Although the actual number of victims have not been confirmed, a source said that no fewer than 20 persons were taken away from the community.

The attackers were said to have fled via Abewo Road towards Kwara State.

Efforts to speak with the state Police Public Relations Officer, Afusat Saliu, on Saturday proved abortive as she was not reachable.

However, Saliu had earlier confirmed the incident to TVC News.

She said security operatives had been deployed in the area, with efforts ongoing to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

When contacted, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state, Apostle Olaniyan Adebayo, told Sunday PUNCH that the Department of State Services issued a security alert prompting precautionary measures across churches in some parts of the state.

Adebayo said, “The DSS called me and asked me to call the churches in those places based on the intelligence report they had. We alerted all the churches on Wednesday and Thursday concerning it. We sent messages to those churches through their coordinators in the local government.”

He noted that the early warning helped ensure that some church leaders and members were aware of the situation and took necessary precautions.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God declined comment when contacted

A senior official, who claimed not to be aware of the incident, said he had escalated it to the relevant authority.

  • I Will Decide Who Becomes Governor of Rivers In 2027 …Nyesom Wike

I Will Decide Who Becomes Governor of Rivers In 2027 …Nyesom Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has made a bold declaration regarding the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

Speaking in a recent engagement, Wike asserted his strong influence over the state’s political landscape, stating emphatically that he will personally decide who emerges as the next governor of Rivers State after the tenure of the current administration.

Wike also said that no blackmail will make anyone become the next governor of Rivers State.

“I will decide who becomes the governor of Rivers State,” Wike said, sending clear signals to political stakeholders, aspirants, and observers ahead of the keenly contested 2027 polls.

The statement is coming amid heightened political tensions and realignments in Rivers State, following the fallout between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Wike, who remains a dominant figure in the state’s politics, has toured local government areas and consolidating support among his loyalists.

Political analysts believe Wike’s declaration is aimed at reasserting control over the PDP structure in Rivers State and ensuring that only a candidate loyal to him gets the ticket. He has repeatedly warned against repeating what he described as past “political mistakes,” vowing that his camp will not allow any disloyalty in the choice of the next governor.

President Donald Trump was uninjured and other top White House officials were evacuated from an annual dinner of the White House correspondents association on Saturday night after an unspecified threat.

There did not immediately appear to be any injuries, and one law enforcement official said a shooter had opened fire.

Authorities said the incident occurred outside the ballroom where Trump and other guests were seated. It was not immediately clear what happened. The event was scrapped and will be rescheduled.

The FBI said the shooter is in custody and that its Washington field office is responding to the shooting.

Trump, during a White House press briefing, said the suspect was armed with multiple weapons before being stopped by the Secret Service. One officer was shot, but he was protected by a good bulletproof vest.

  • Over 10 Universities Have Been Pressured To Cancel My Engagements At The Last Minutes..Peter Obi

Over 10 Universities Have Been Pressured To Cancel My Engagements At The Last Minutes..Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has raised the alarm over what he described as a disturbing pattern of cancelled university engagements across Nigeria, warning that intellectual freedom in the country’s institutions of higher learning is increasingly under threat.

Obi, in a statement released on Saturday via X.com said he was scheduled to deliver a keynote lecture at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, at 9am, before proceeding to Ibadan for an opposition parties’ political summit billed to commence at noon, when he received word that the event had been called off.

The former Anambra State governor said the development was far from an isolated occurrence, disclosing that similar cancellations had taken place on more than 10 separate occasions.

“While such occurrences may be dismissed in isolation, it is important to state clearly that this has now happened more than 10 times. This is no longer incidental; it points to a troubling pattern that should concern all well-meaning Nigerians,” he said.

Obi revealed that his alma mater, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, was equally affected, noting that an inaugural annual lecture organised by the family of late Professor Frank Ndili, a former Vice Chancellor of the institution, was abruptly cancelled by the university authority on the day it was to hold.

Drawing a contrast with his experiences abroad, he said that within the past 24 months, he had freely delivered lectures at some of the world’s most prestigious institutions, including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania, and Imperial College London, among others.

“Those environments continue to demonstrate openness to dialogue, critical thinking, and shared learning — values that should equally define our own institutions,” he stated.

Obi questioned what the repeated restriction of intellectual platforms indicated about Nigeria’s direction as a nation, arguing that a country’s growth was inseparable from its capacity to sustain open debate and the free exchange of ideas.

“We must ask ourselves: what kind of nation are we building if spaces meant for intellectual engagement are gradually shrinking? A country’s progress is anchored on its ability to encourage knowledge, debate, and the contest of ideas, not restrict them,” he said.

He called on Nigeria to chart a course toward becoming a society where knowledge is shared without fear and where its institutions remained faithful to the principles upon which they were founded.
