Airpeace London flight returns to Lagos over route access issues with African country

Air Peace has confirmed that its Lagos–London Gatwick flight scheduled for May 13 encountered an operational disruption linked to airspace access issues involving aviation authorities in an African country.

The airline disclosed this in a statement issued by its management, explaining that the aircraft was forced to return safely to Lagos in line with international aviation safety procedures.

According to the statement, the incident occurred while the aircraft was en route to London Gatwick.

“Air Peace wishes to inform the flying public that its scheduled Lagos–London Gatwick service of May 13, 2026, experienced an operational disruption following enroute access issues involving the airspace authorities of an African country,” the statement read.

The airline explained that the decision to return the aircraft to Lagos became necessary pending clarification with the relevant aviation authorities.

“As a result of the development and the need for immediate operational clarification with the relevant authorities, the aircraft safely returned to Lagos in accordance with established international aviation procedures,” the airline stated.

Air Peace further disclosed that the affected London Gatwick service had to be rescheduled while efforts were made to resolve the issue.

The airline said passengers affected by the disruption were duly informed, while support measures were put in place to minimise inconvenience.

According to the statement, affected travellers received updates, assistance and other necessary care arrangements during the period of the disruption.

Air Peace apologised to passengers over the incident, describing the situation as unforeseen and beyond the airline’s control.

  • 2027: Why Abaribe won’t return Senate – Ikonne

2027: Why Abaribe won’t return Senate – Ikonne

An All Progressives Congress chieftain and former executive secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Prince Paul Ikonne, has explained why Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing the Abia South Senatorial District, will not return to the red chamber in 2027.

He disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to Ikonne, Abaribe’s constituents in Abia State have resolved that he should not be re-elected in 2027, having spent almost 20 years in the Senate without any “developmental projects in the district to show for the long stay.”

“Senator Abaribe is already coming back home. This is 20 years in the Senate, and there is nothing to show for it. There is nowhere you will go and see any constituency project in the entire Abia South.

“It is interesting to note that Abia South is the engine hub of Abia State and, by extension, the Southeast because Aba is the commercial nerve centre for the Southeast. Abia South is also the oil-producing zone for Abia State. Yet there is nothing to show for it. So he is already coming back home. People are preparing to welcome him back home, and some group of people are pushing for him to be given a traditional title to take over one community in his local government,” he stated.

Ikonne, who recently declared he will run for senatorial election in Abia State, added that a full eight-year presidency will come to the southeast after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

  • Chinese President, Xi warns Trump on Taiwan

Chinese President, Xi warns Trump on Taiwan

Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned his US counterpart, Donald Trump, that any missteps on Taiwan could push the two countries into conflict.

Xi gave the warning on Thursday in a stark opening salvo as they met in Beijing at a superpower summit.

DAILY POST reports that Trump had arrived in China with accolades for his host, calling Xi a great leader and friend, as he predicted their countries would have a fantastic future together.

However, beyond the pomp as he welcomed Trump, the Chinese President said the two sides should be partners and not rivals, highlighting the issue of Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its territory.

“The Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations. If mishandled, the two nations could collide or even come into conflict, pushing the entire China-US relationship into a highly perilous situation,” Xi said.

Trump’s trip to Beijing is the first by a US president in nearly a decade, with the grand reception belying a roster of unresolved trade and geopolitical tensions between the two countries.
