Don’t Give Up On Your Dreams, Otti Charges Women

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has challenged women across Nigeria to pursue their ambitions relentlessly, urging them to remain resilient, focused, and unyielding in the face of challenges.

The Governor made the call on Saturday at the Women of Divine Destiny Initiative (WODDI) Inspiring Women Summit (WIWS), held at the Blanc Galleria in the Central Business District, Abuja.

Speaking on the summit’s theme, “PUSH – Position Until Something Happens,” Governor Otti drew from his own political journey to illustrate the power of perseverance.

“I ran for election in 2015, I ran again in 2019, and people told me, ‘You’ve tried, go elsewhere.’ In 2023, I ran again. If I didn’t run in 2023, would I be here today as Governor? So, if you have a dream, hold on to it and never give up,” he said.

Governor Otti clarified that “positioning” under the theme does not mean complacency or standing still. He defined it as the ability to study changing realities and adapt strategically.

“Sometimes, positioning means repositioning completely. You must study situations, understand the changes around you, and adjust accordingly to achieve your goals,” Otti explained.

He also emphasised the importance of lifelong learning.

“Any day you stop learning, you are dead. You can never know everything,” Otti stated.

The Governor commended the founder of WODDI, Zinaria Okorocha, for focusing on sustainable empowerment rather than temporary handouts.

“A lot of people define empowerment as giving people handouts, food or money. But what I have seen here goes beyond giving fish — it is about teaching people how to fish and ensuring sustainability,” he said.

The Abia State Governor further praised the unveiling of three books authored by the WODDI founder, stressing the value of reading for personal development.

“He who does not read has no advantage over he who cannot read,” the Governor noted.

WODDI, a non-profit organisation founded by Zinaria Okorocha, wife of former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, is dedicated to empowering women, youths, and persons with disabilities to become agents of transformative change.

In her remarks, the founder explained that the organisation was established on the belief that no woman should be limited by her background or circumstances.

“Within every woman lies a strength, a purpose, and a potential that deserves to be seen, supported, and expressed,” she said.

Former Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, also spoke at the event, praising his wife’s passion for humanitarian work.

“Being there for the people is her joy,” Okorocha said.

The summit drew notable dignitaries, including the Vice President’s wife, Nana Shettima (represented), diplomats, wives of former governors and senators, and other influential figures from across the country.

90% of Reps candidates emerged through consensus as Jigawa APC announces results

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Jigawa State has said that 90 per cent of its candidates for the House of Representatives primaries emerged through consensus arrangements.

Chief of Staff, Government House Dutse and Chairman of the Dutse/Kiyawa Primary Election Committee, Senator Mustapha Makama, disclosed this while commenting on the conduct of the party’s primaries.

Makama explained that Jigawa was the only state that successfully adopted the consensus method at the first stage of the primaries, in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

Earlier, the Jigawa State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Ahmed Garba, said primary elections were conducted in only four out of the eleven federal constituencies in the state.

According to him, the affected constituencies are Dutse/Kiyawa, Ringim/Taura, Kafin Hausa/Auyo/Hadejia, and Gumel/Gagarawa/Sule Tankarkar/Maigatari federal constituencies.

He added that candidates in the remaining constituencies emerged through affirmation after stakeholders reached consensus agreements.

Hon. Garba commended party supporters for their orderly conduct during the primaries held across the 287 political wards in the state.

Meanwhile, the national delegation of the APC assigned to monitor the party’s primary elections in the North-West zone expressed satisfaction with the emergence of all the candidates in Jigawa State.

Leader of the delegation and North-West Zonal Secretary of the party, Isa Sadiq Achida, said the committee was mandated to ensure that all candidates emerged in accordance with the law.

Speaking earlier, the delegation’s secretary, Sambo Bello, explained that the team comprised two committees – the Election and Candidate Inauguration Committee, and the Appeals Committee  established to ensure peaceful and transparent primary elections across the North-West zone.

A tax expert, Olayinka Oyebola, has advised tax practitioners to steer clear of sharp practices that may bring disrepute to them and their profession.

Oyebola gave the charge while speaking at the 28th Annual Tax Conference organised by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria in Abuja.

DAILY POST gathered that the conference, with the theme, “Tax Reforms and Global Relevance: Positioning Nigeria’s Tax System for a Sustainable Future,” was attended by scholars, experts and practitioners.

Oyebola, in a statement made available to DAILY POST after the conference on Saturday, urged tax practitioners in the country to uphold ethical practices and integrity in their operations.

He said the theme of the conference was apt.

He added that it would scale up the practice and align it with global best practices.

Oyebola, who spoke further, maintained that his experiences over the years had shown that the country is blessed with experts who can help shape the industry and compete with their peers across the globe.

Oyebola also reiterated his firm’s commitment to standard procedures in line with international best practices.
