The Apex Igbo Socio-Cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has staged a rally for transporters, traders and youths in Aba, Abia State urging them to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, to have a greater stake in the nation’s electoral process.

Addressing the gathering including government workers, the Abia State President of Ohaneze,
Chukwuemeka Okwuonu, said the Igbos will make a statement that will bring respect back to the region come 2027.

Okwuonu stressed that no Igbo parents should allow their male and female adults who are up to 18 m waste the opportunity of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, as the region will use its real population to prove a point in Nigeria.

“Your voters card is your power. The national president has made PVC compulsory for all Igbo adults. Our population is huge and we must make a statement this time around.

“We must take back our pride of place this time around. We are doing this sensitization in Aba for a reason because Aba is the home of all Igbos,” he said.

The Abia president of Ohanaeze added that henceforth, Igbos will begin to reward their sons and daughters who are doing well in political positions and will equally payback those who misused the opportunities given to them by voting them out.

“I charge you today to go out and pick your PVC. We’ll use our PVCs to reward our sons and daughters who are doing well in elective positions and equally use them to remove the people who are not serious.

“People who think that Igbos are small do not know us very well. We shall prove to everyone that we are more populated that they know. today, in any part of Nigeria, when you count the indigenous population, the next people are the Igbos. So, when we aggregate all our people we’ll make a statement that will shake this country,” Okwuonu declared.

Speaking earlier, President of the Socio-Cultural group, Aba South LGA, Uche Wogu, urged all Igbos that their PVC is their power and right to determine who will govern them.

He reminded the gathering that those in government are like employees of the electorate who can use their PVC to replace whoever they want.

“It’s not fair for us to have youths that are already 18 years and they’re not registered to decide their future. So, what we’re here for today is to sensitise our people to get involved.

“As long as you’re an Igbo person, you’re part of Ohanaeze. Whether you’re a trader, keke rider, okada rider, bus driver and whatsoever, you’re part of us and we need you to get registered and be part of what’s happening.”he said.

Wogu urged Igbo youths not to relax in the social media ranting, saying that there is no place of taking power from the social media.

“An election is not done on social media. There’s no polling unit on Facebook, WhatsApp or all the social media. We must get involved by getting registered,”he added.

Ohanaeze mobilizes traders, youths, others for massive PVC registration in Abia 

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has strongly criticised the just concluded National Assembly primaries of the party, describing the exercise as a “facade” and a “mockery of democracy,” warning that the party risks internal collapse if urgent reforms are not undertaken.

Vatsa, a former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Niger State and pioneer Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, made the remarks in Minna on Wednesday while reacting to the outcome of the senatorial and House of Representatives primaries held across the state and other parts of the country.

He said the exercise left behind a trail of disappointment, allegations and credibility concerns, insisting that the ruling party had failed to learn from past political mistakes that continue to affect governance and internal democracy in Nigeria.

“What transpired during the just concluded National Assembly primaries can best be described as what the late Afrobeat legend, Fela, would call a ‘demonstration of craze’,” Vatsa declared.

According to him, reports of massive financial inducement allegedly dominated the process, with claims that some aspirants spent as much as ₦150 million in pursuit of party tickets through what he described as a deeply flawed and manipulated system.

He alleged that despite the heavy financial and political investments made by aspirants, many were left disappointed as the process allegedly failed to reflect fairness, transparency, or genuine democratic competition.

“The irony is unavoidable because many of the aspirants now lamenting the outcome were among those who maintained silence when some of us raised serious concerns over exclusion, manipulation and political neglect,” he said.

Vatsa further lamented that the APC, which came to power in 2015 on the promise of transparency and anti-corruption, had now deviated from its founding principles. All what we campaigned against in 2015 that earned us the confidence of Nigerians, we are now doing worse than that, and this is quite unfortunate.”

“As a pioneer member of this party, I never envisaged this level of manipulation that has characterised the primaries so far. It is unacceptable,” the party chieftain added.

He warned that failure to urgently reconcile aggrieved members and restore confidence in the party’s internal processes could lead to widespread disaffection and anti-party activities ahead of the general elections.

Vatsa also urged the party leadership to acknowledge flaws in its internal democracy, drawing a parallel with the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who admitted that the system that brought him to power was faulty, insisting that the APC must confront its internal challenges honestly in order to regain public trust. 

‘Primaries was demonstration of Craze’- Vatsa faults APC Primaries in Niger

A senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Abia State University Uturu, ABSU, Kingsley Izuogu has been suspended by the University’s management.

Izuogu was suspended this week on allegations bordering on extortion and harassment of students as well as forgery of one of his lower credentials.

He was alleged to have charged money for his Hand Out materials and also demanded money to allow students pass the Courses he handled.

But Izuogu has repeatedly denied the allegations, saying he was innocent.

His suspension took place even as a separate investigation panel set up by the Abia State government to investigate corruption in the institution is yet to conclude or submit its findings to the state government.

The suspension of the lecturer has elicited different opinions among students and parents with some section hailing the action of the University management.

There are also a section of the Abia State University community who believe the Abia State University management should have waited for the State government’s investigation panel to submit its findings.

The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abubakar Suleiman, has announced his withdrawal from the governorship contest of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.

Suleiman disclosed his decision in a statement personally signed by him, saying the move was informed by recent developments within the party and his commitment to party supremacy.

According to him, although he will no longer participate in the governorship race, his confidence in the future of Kwara State remains strong.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, its leadership, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging continued support for the party ahead of future elections.

Suleiman also promised to support efforts aimed at strengthening the APC and promoting peace, unity, and development in the state.

“I remain committed to the success of our great party at all levels and will continue to contribute towards advancing peace, unity, and progress in Kwara State,” he stated.

Reacting in Abuja on Wednesday, Ejele particularly thanked President Bola Tinubu, for creating a level playing ground and creating a conducive and peaceful atmosphere during the conduct of the primary election across the wards and local government areas within the Delta South senatorial district.

In his official reaction, Diden promised his constituency of adequate and rewarding representation when finally elected in the 2027 senatorial election. 

He promised to initiate bills that will impact upon the lives of the masses of Delta South and Nigeria, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and make life more comfortable for the downtrodden masses through good governance. 

While observing that the senatorial district produces the highest crude oil in the state, Ejele assured that he would partner with his colleagues and the executive arm to provide infrastructures commiserate with what the region produces. 

Meanwhile, he has called on his fellow contestant, Senator Joel Onowakpo, to team up with him in ensuring that the Delta South senatorial district continues to enjoy the dividends of democracy, adding that his doors and ears are wide open for advice and counsel that would guarantee the growth and prosperity of the district and Delta State in general.
