Military Kill Terrorists, Rescue Abducted Victims In North-East Operations

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded major successes in ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the North-East, including the neutralisation of terrorists, rescue of abducted victims, recovery of weapons and explosives, as well as the arrest of suspected collaborators and criminals.

According to a statement issued by the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), troops supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) carried out coordinated offensives in Valle, Ashigashiya, Gakara, and other parts of the theatre under Operation DESERT SANITY.

During the operations, troops reportedly engaged Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in gun battles, neutralising several insurgents while others fled. Recovered items included communication gadgets, ammunition, RPG bombs, mortar bombs, and other explosive devices abandoned by fleeing terrorists.

In one of the rescue operations, troops successfully rescued an eight-year-old boy identified as Abubakar Mublagha, who was abducted during the March 3, 2026 attack on Ngoshe community. The child was medically evaluated and reunited with his family.

Troops also rescued a 20-year-old abducted Fulani man, Dahiru Ahamdu, who escaped from a terrorist hideout in the Mandara Mountains after sustained artillery bombardments by Nigerian troops reportedly created panic within the camps.

The military further disclosed that a suspected terrorist collaborator identified as Kuti Muhammad, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), was arrested over alleged links with insurgents.

In separate operations, troops arrested armed robbery suspects and cattle rustlers in Biu and Kwaya Kusar areas, recovering stolen cattle, firearms, cash, charms, mobile phones, and other items.

The military reassured Nigerians of its continued commitment to sustaining aggressive operations aimed at defeating terrorism, restoring peace, and improving security across the North-East region.

Ensure women inclusion in electoral positions — Osun NAWOJ to politicians

The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has called on political parties to ensure greater inclusion of women in nominations for National Assembly, House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The association made the call as political parties across the country embark on primary elections ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In a statement jointly signed by the Osun NAWOJ Chairperson, Abisola Ariwodola, and Secretary, Oluwaranti Ojewumi ok Saturday, the association said it had observed low female representation in recent party primaries within the state.

NAWOJ noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC, had concluded its primary elections in Osun State with only one female candidate emerging among its flag bearers for federal legislative positions.

According to the association, “the outcome reflected the continued underrepresentation of women in elective politics despite years of advocacy for gender equity.”

The association stated that “political parties have a significant role to play in addressing the low representation of women in parliament before the proposed Special Seat Bill becomes law.

“Political parties are the gatekeepers of candidacy. Voluntary affirmative action by parties in Osun will send a strong signal that the state is committed to inclusive democracy.”

NAWOJ stated that “women currently occupy less than five per cent of seats in the National Assembly, placing Nigeria among countries with low female parliamentary representation in Africa.”

The association urged political parties to adopt measures including partial waiver of nomination fees for female aspirants, reservation of slots for women during primaries and provision of campaign support for female candidates.

It also called on party leaders to involve women groups in candidate selection processes and ensure women are included in party decision-making structures.

Speaking on the proposed Special Seat Bill before the National Assembly, NAWOJ described the legislation as a structural response to low female participation in politics at federal and state levels.

“Even without the bill being passed yet, parties can demonstrate commitment by voluntarily increasing the number of women they field. Inclusion is not a favour; it is a democratic requirement,” the statement added.

    Tinubu’s Re-Election Will Guarantee Nigeria’s Prosperity – Enang

Senator Ita Enang, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Akwa Ibom, has said that re-electing President Bola Tinubu will guarantee Nigeria’s economic prosperity.

Enang, who spoke on the APC presidential primaries in Uyo on Saturday, said that the party was ready to re-nominate the president.

The Nigerian Ambassador-designate to Germany said that Tinubu’s ‘bold economic policies’ required full implementation to have the needed impact on the people.

“The president deserves a second term so that he will continue with the reforms he has started; these reforms will take Nigeria to economic prosperity,” he said.

The former Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs urged Nigerians to commend Tinubu for taking ‘very bold economic reforming steps’ in the interest of the nation.

He thanked party faithful for conducting themselves peacefully and orderly during the national, state assembly and governorship primaries in the state.

Enang said that Tinubu had particularly shown interest towards supporting the development of Akwa Ibom.

“Akwa Ibom has benefited from the Tinubu-led administration more than any other government.

“I am confident that with your support, the president will get re-nominated at the end of the primaries.

  • At Nollywood’s Biggest Night, The Singleton Chose Intention Over Noise and the Room Felt It

At Nollywood’s Biggest Night, The Singleton Chose Intention Over Noise and the Room Felt It

There is a particular kind of presence that does not announce itself. It does not compete for the loudest corner of the room or engineer the most photographed moment of the evening.

It simply creates space and trusts that the right people will find their way into it. At the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, that presence belonged to The Singleton.

While the night moved at the breathless pace these events always do, the flashbulbs, the fashion, the carefully timed reveals, the electric charge of a room full of people waiting for their names to be called; The Singleton operated on a different frequency entirely.

One rooted not in spectacle but in something the industry it was celebrating understands better than most: the quiet, deliberate craft of making something that lasts.

The brand’s most visible commitment of the evening was its sponsorship of the Best Documentary category, a decision that felt less like a marketing calculation and more like a genuine statement of values.

Sponsoring that category was also a recognition of where African cinema is quietly heading. Across the continent, a generation of filmmakers is turning to documentary as the language best suited to interrogating who we are.

But it was perhaps the brand’s second activation of the evening that captured its ethos most completely. Tucked into the event was The Singleton Escape Pod,  a space designed, in the middle of one of the most high-energy nights on the Nigerian entertainment calendar, for guests to simply stop.

Not to pose, not to network, not to be seen doing something  but to exhale. To step briefly out of the current and return to themselves before stepping back in.

Some guests arrived with someone and left having had a conversation they hadn’t planned. Others came alone and used the quiet for exactly that. In an environment where presence is performance, The Singleton offered something different: permission to just be.

It is easy, in retrospect, to see how perfectly these two gestures rhyme. The documentary sponsorship said: some stories deserve more patience than we give them. The Escape Pod said: so do you. Together, they made an argument about what meaningful engagement actually looks like.

The Spirit of Progress: How Johnnie Walker Showed Up for Nollywood at the 2026 AMVCA

There is a reason Johnnie Walker’s philosophy has endured for over two centuries: progress, when it is genuine, resonates.

At the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Johnnie Walker did more than support a ceremony, it built a sustained narrative of celebration, legacy, and cross-cultural exchange across the entire AMVCA season.

The brand’s presence began at Icons Night, the beloved pre-ceremony tribute that gathers Nollywood’s most enduring names to reflect on a shared journey.

Rooted in the “Keep Walking” philosophy,  a belief in progress, legacy, and the relentless spirit required to build something great over time. Johnnie Walker turned Icons Night into what many described as a love letter to Nollywood.

The guest list told the story before a single word was spoken.

Johnnie Walker’s engagement extended across the broader AMVCA week through its Blue Label, Black Label, and Blonde expressions, each showing up in strategic category integrations and award sponsorship moments throughout the ceremony.

But it was the brand’s involvement at Cultural Day through Johnnie Walker Black Label that captured a different kind of attention.

Cultural Day has become one of the most anticipated moments on the AMVCA calendar, drawing actors, musicians, fashion designers, and digital creators who collectively reflect how African storytelling now spans well beyond the screen.

Johnnie Walker Black Label used the platform to spotlight cross-cultural collaboration within the entertainment industry, reinforcing that African creativity cannot be confined to a single lane.

The brand’s engagement with the creator economy was equally deliberate. Collaborator Elozonam Ogbolu, who earned a nomination in the Best Digital Content Creator category, championed Johnnie Walker throughout the AMVCA week, a reflection of the brand’s understanding that Africa’s new generation of storytellers is as likely to be found on a smartphone screen as on a cinema one.

Through its AfroExchange platform, Johnnie Walker has committed to building spaces where African creativity, collaboration, and cultural exchange can thrive beyond any single event.

The season closed with Blue-42, an exclusive after-party experience co-hosted with headline sponsor Don Julio, the first time two of the world’s most celebrated premium spirits brands collaborated in honour of African talent and culture. Bringing together filmmakers, actors, industry leaders, and cultural tastemakers, Blue-42 featured bespoke cocktail expressions crafted by expert mixologists, adding another layer of sophistication to an already landmark AMVCA weekend.

“The partnership reflects the company’s commitment to showing up for consumers in moments of celebration, recognition, and shared cultural pride, values that Johnnie Walker has carried across generations and now carries across the African continent with fresh conviction.”  Ifeoma Agu, Group Head of Culture, Influencer & Advocacy – Diageo South, West & Central Africa.”
