The Lagos State Police Command have foiled an alleged cult initiation ceremony in the Egbeda area of Lagos and arrested four suspected cultists during a covert midnight operation that also led to the recovery of firearms, live ammunition and other dangerous weapons.
A statement issued by the command on thursday by the public relations officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said that the suspects were allegedly linked to cult-related violence and other criminal activities within Alimosho and surrounding communities.
The suspects were identified as Nurudeen Ganiu, 34; Oluwaleke Fagbula, 38; Emmanuel Silas, 41; and Nurudeen Abdullahi, 41.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence about an alleged midnight cult initiation ceremony taking place in Egbeda.
Acting on the information, police operatives launched a covert operation which led to the arrest of the suspects.
During the raid, officers recovered one locally made cut-to-size pistol, one English Beretta pistol loaded with 10 live cartridges, and a jack knife.
The command said further investigations revealed that one of the suspects is an alleged cult gang leader and a rusticated student of a university in Ogun State who was reportedly expelled in 2022 over cult-related activities.
Police investigations also showed that the group had allegedly been involved in thuggery and terrorising residents of Egbeda and nearby areas for some time.
“The suspects reportedly confessed to being active members of the Eiye Confraternity, a notorious secret cult group,” the statement said.
The police added that the gang allegedly operated with motorcycles, using them to attack unsuspecting residents and disrupt gatherings at gunpoint.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CPTijani Fatai, commended the operatives for what he described as their professionalism and swift response which led to the successful operation.
He assured residents that the command remained committed to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
The police boss also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information through the command’s emergency lines.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural transformation through strategic land aggregation and improved access to farm inputs, unveiling a 51 per cent subsidy on fertiliser for farmers across the state.
The governor made the announcement on Thursday while officially flagging off the 2026 Fertiliser and Other Farm Inputs Sales and Distribution Exercise at the Benue Fertilizer Blending Plant, Industrial Layout, Makurdi.
Alia disclosed that fertiliser would be sold to farmers at a subsidised rate of ₦28,000 per bag, with the state government absorbing 51 per cent of the cost to reduce production expenses and support smallholder farmers.
He described the exercise as more than a seasonal intervention, saying it forms part of a broader agricultural policy aimed at boosting food security, expanding cultivated farmlands through land aggregation, and promoting rural economic development.
According to the governor, Benue’s status as the nation’s food basket can only be sustained through deliberate investments in modern agricultural practices and farmer support programmes.
He noted that his administration is expanding access to quality farm inputs, improved seedlings, herbicides and other support services required to increase productivity and commercialise agriculture on a larger scale.
Governor Alia announced that the fertiliser and input distribution programme would cover all 23 local government areas of the state, adding that measures had been put in place to ensure transparency, equitable access and prevent diversion of the products.
He further revealed that the government had increased the volume of fertiliser and related farm inputs to meet the growing farming population and support the expansion of farmland under the state’s land aggregation initiative.
The governor said the administration’s agricultural agenda also includes the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to facilitate the evacuation of farm produce, expansion of irrigation facilities for all-season farming, promotion of agro-processing and value addition, as well as capacity-building programmes for farmers, youths and women involved in agribusiness.
Alia urged farmers to maximise the opportunities provided by the programme, while directing officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to ensure transparency, fairness and accountability in the distribution process.
He warned against any form of diversion or malpractice, stressing that offenders would face appropriate sanctions.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Benjamin Ashaver, declared that the era of substandard fertiliser distribution in Benue State was over.
Ashaver said strict monitoring and enforcement mechanisms had been put in place to eliminate irregularities and ensure that only quality farm inputs reach genuine farmers across the state.

Dangote-backed MRS filling stations have reduced their petrol price to N1,318 per litre, making it cheaper than prices offered by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other marketers.
Checks by DAILY POST on Thursday showed that MRS dropped its fuel price from N1,360 to N1,318 per litre across its retail outlets in Abuja.
The price adjustment places the filling station between N12 and N32 cheaper than NNPCL, NIPCO, AA Rano and other petroleum product marketers in Abuja.
Speaking on the development, a station manager at MRS, who preferred anonymity, said the adjusted fuel price was possible because the outlet receives its petrol products directly from Dangote Refinery.
Earlier, NNPCL, NIPCO and AA Rano reduced their retail fuel prices to N1,335, N1,330 and N1,350 per litre, respectively, on Wednesday.
The latest fuel price reduction comes days after Dangote Refinery slashed its petrol and diesel gantry prices nationwide to N1,250 per litre and N1,700 per litre, respectively.
On Thursday, Dangote Refinery ramped up its refining capacity to 700,000 barrels per day, indicating that more petroleum products would be available to Nigeria and other African countries.
Currently, Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices stand at $95 and $93 per barrel, respectively, as of the time of filing this report.
