‘Bandits not alone, getting support from those power’ — Ex-NYSC DG

A former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brig-Gen Maharazu Tsiga, rtd, says bandits terrorising communities may be receiving backing from powerful individuals in government and other positions of authority.

Tsiga made this statement at a press conference in Kaduna about late Major-General Rabe Abubakar, rtd, who died in bandits’ captivity in Katsina State.

According to Tsiga, who was also kidnapped earlier this year from his hometown in Katsina, he had horrible experience in bandits’ captivity during the period.

The former NYSC DG recounted that his time with the bandits exposed a deeply troubling support system operating beyond the forests, involving informants, logistics suppliers and individuals allegedly connected to positions of influence.

“These people may be having the backing of those in power. One of the days I was there around 2 a.m., this issue came up. Somebody called and said, ‘Please, Kachala, are you ready to buy 10 cartons of ammunition?

“He said, ‘Yes, but let me finish with one old man.’ When he finished talking and was talking to me, I asked him jokingly, ‘put me inside this business now.’

“He said, ‘Who are you? You are a retired general. You don’t have office. We are talking to people who are in office now,” Tsiga recounted.

Ekiti Guber: Only APC Agent Present At Governor Oyebanji’s Polling Unit

Only the polling agent of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was present at Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s polling unit as voting began in Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election.

When THE WHISTLER visited Polling Unit 003, located opposite the governor’s family compound in Okelele, Ikogosi, Ekiti West Local Government Area, a large number of voters had already arrived to cast their ballots.

However, only the APC polling agent was seen monitoring the process. Governor Oyebanji is expected to vote at the polling unit.

The development came less than 24 hours after the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wole Oluyede, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of allowing the replacement of many of his party’s polling agents.

Oluyede had visited the INEC office in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, alleging that more than half of the PDP’s accredited agents across polling units were replaced without the party’s approval by individuals linked to the APC.

He said his protest was not addressed by electoral officials, who instead asked him to leave the commission’s premises. INEC has yet to publicly respond to the allegation.

At Governor Oyebanji’s polling unit, election officials declined to explain why agents from other political parties were absent.

The APC agent, identified as Ogundele Oluwatosin, was seen interacting with voters as accreditation and voting continued.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were stationed at the polling unit throughout the exercise but did not intervene in the process.

Checks at neighbouring polling units by THE WHISTLER showed a similar situation, with only APC agents present.

Some voters who spoke with our correspondent said they were not concerned about the absence of agents from other parties, adding that their priority was to cast their votes peacefully.

The election is being contested by Oyebanji of the APC, Oluyede of the PDP, Professor Oyebanji Olajuyin of the Labour Party, Ambassador Oluwadare Patrick Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside candidates of the Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party, Action Democratic Party (ADP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and other registered political parties.

  • Mr Real reacts as Idowest claims ownership of ‘Legbegbe’

Mr Real reacts as Idowest claims ownership of ‘Legbegbe’

Nigerian singer, Mr Real has debunked his colleague, Idowest’s claim that he is the original owner of the popular street anthem, ‘Legbegbe.’

‘Legbegbe,’ which was released in 2018 as a song by Mr Real featuring Idowest, was one of the songs that championed the Shaku Shaku movement.

However, Mr Real has repeatedly said that he regretted featuring Idowest on the song, claiming that he would have been a bigger star if he had sang the song alone.

In a recent livestream with streamer Caterefe, Idowest mocked Mr Real’s statement and even claimed that he was the original owner of ‘Legbegbe.’

He said, “I am the original owner of ‘Legbegbe.’ I composed the full song. I only featured Mr Real on the track as my boy in the hood but now he’s claiming the song. He is an old man, I will beat him up.”

Reacting in a video broadcast, Mr Real insisted that he is the true owner of ‘Legbegbe’, stressing that Idowest lied at the interview.

He also accepted Idowest’s invitation to a public brawl.

“Idowest, I heard everything you said at Carter Efe’s live. You said you will beat me in a match. I am your senior brother and I will beat you.

“I heard you were deported from America. Instead of you to promote your music, you are downgrading me and claiming my song, ‘Legbegbe.’ I won’t even waste my precious time on you,” he said.
