Chelsea have agreed a €50m deal with Atalanta to sign Palestra.

Inter Milan had been hopeful of sealing a transfer, but the Blues appeared to have successfully hijacked it.

New manager, Xabi Alonso, is believed to be a key part of the deal.

Alonso views the 21-year-old as a versatile two-sided full-back, as he continues to bolster his squad ahead of his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Palestra is keen on the move to Chelsea and is now in negotiations over personal terms.

Inter unable to match Chelsea’s wage proposal, but Palestra still fits within the club’s incentive-driven structure.

The player was also offered to Arsenal and Liverpool as a move to England was explored this summer.

Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, reportedly escaped an attack by suspected political thugs while travelling to participate in the recently concluded Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election.

The allegation was made by a media aide to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Ango Ngharni, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Kano govt marks Azman University, other alleged illegal structures for demolition

The Kano State Government has marked over 50 properties, including Azman University, as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal structures across the state.

The Director General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, who is also leading the enforcement committee, said the affected property owners have been asked to present their documents or face legal action.

Speaking during the exercise on Tuesday, he explained that the illegal structures include buildings without proper ownership documents or those constructed in restricted areas such as under high-tension power lines or on waterways.

“Some structures have no documents to prove ownership, while others are built in prohibited places like under the national grid or on drainage paths. All these are considered illegal,” he said.

He said the enforcement team visited several locations along Maiduguri Road, Rijiyar Gwangwan, Ladi Makole, Matar Fada road, and other parts of Kano, where many properties were sealed or marked.

“Today alone, we marked more than 50 properties. Our operation is called ‘Operation Show Your Document.’ If you come forward with genuine documents, we will allow you to continue. You will not pay any money,” he said.

Sani stressed that the government is not targeting anyone unfairly, but simply enforcing the law.

“If you do the right thing, you have nothing to worry about. But if you refuse to come forward, then the law will take its course. It is not business as usual,” he added.

At Azman University, the officials did not shut down the institution but placed markings on some structures and asked the management to present all relevant documents.

“We are here at the university. We did not close it, students are still learning, but we have asked the owners to come and present their documents,” he said.

He noted that the university premises include several other facilities such as a filling station and factories, which will also be assessed.

“It is a large property with many structures inside. When they come, they must provide documents for everything, including the filling station and other facilities,” he explained.

The KANGIS boss also emphasized that no one is above the law, regardless of status or political affiliation.

“No exemption in Kano. No matter who you are, you must follow the law. Everyone must go through due process,” he said.

He called on residents to cooperate with the committee, assuring that the exercise is in the best interest of the state.

“In the end, this will benefit all of us. We want a better, more organized Kano,” he added.

IGP bars officers from unauthorized use of TikTok, Facebook, and other platforms, threatens suspension and salary forfeiture for defaulters

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has barred serving officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force from engaging in unauthorised social media activities, including creating videos, live streaming, posting skits, and monetising content on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other similar platforms while identifying themselves as police officers.

In a circular dated June 22 and signed by his Principal Staff Officer, the police boss warned that any officer found violating the directive must face severe disciplinary measures, including immediate suspension from duties, forfeiture of salary, demotion, dismissal from the Force, and possible criminal prosecution.

According to the document, the IGP expressed concern over the growing and most disturbing trend of police personnel creating social media content without official approval.

The circular in part reads, officers have been “producing and posting videos of themselves in police uniform on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and other platforms for entertainment, personal promotion, and financial gain, operating social media accounts under their real names or pseudonyms in ways capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute, publicly commenting on official police operations, disciplinary matters, internal affairs and national security issues without authorisationand aspiring to become full-time social media content creators while still serving in the Force and  making statements and sharing opinions on sensitive issues that undermine public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.’

The circular reminded officers that their conduct is already governed by several laws that prohibit officers from making unauthorised public statements, granting interviews without approval, posting content in police uniform for non-official purposes, or engaging in online activities capable of embarrassing or compromising the Force.
