Attempts to enforce a temporary Easter ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine broke down on Saturday, as both sides traded accusations of breaches in a war that has now stretched into its fourth year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced the truce on Thursday, following an earlier proposal by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The ceasefire was scheduled to last 32 hours, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and ending late Sunday.

However, the agreement quickly unraveled. Ukrainian military authorities reported at least 469 violations of the ceasefire, citing continued air raids, drone strikes, artillery shelling, and attacks on both military positions and civilian areas.

According to Ukrainian officials, Russian operations during the period resulted in at least four fatalities and dozens of injuries.

In response, Ukraine also launched drone attacks that reportedly ignited a fire at an oil storage facility and caused structural damage in parts of southern Russia.

Despite the renewed hostilities, both countries carried out a limited humanitarian exchange, with each side releasing 175 prisoners of war, along with 14 civilians. One of the freed Ukrainian soldiers, Maksym, who had spent four years in captivity, described his release as surreal, expressing relief at regaining his freedom after years of detention.

Efforts to reach a diplomatic resolution remain stalled, complicated by ongoing geopolitical tensions and disagreements over territorial control.

Ukraine has indicated willingness to consider freezing the conflict along existing frontlines, while Russia insists on full control of the Donetsk region, a demand Kyiv continues to reject.

The protracted conflict has led to massive human and material losses, with hundreds of thousands of casualties and millions displaced. It remains the most deadly war in Europe since the Second World War.

While Russia made rapid territorial gains in the early stages of the invasion, its advances have slowed significantly since late 2025, with Moscow currently holding just over 19 percent of Ukrainian territory.

The Federal High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has ordered the final forfeiture of multiple properties linked to Theophilus Ebonyi, General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International, after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission established them as proceeds of crime.

Justice M.O. Olajuwon ruled that the assets, located in communities bordering the FCT, Abuja, be handed over to the federal government. 

The court held that the EFCC met the legal requirements under the Advance Fee Fraud Act and that Ebonyi failed to justify why the properties should not be permanently seized.

The forfeited assets include a 23 room hotel and event centre in Nyanya Gwandara, a warehouse and sachet water factory in Karu, two office buildings, a primary school, and over N1 million found in a bank account.

According to the EFCC, Ebonyi was arrested in 2023 over an alleged N1.3 billion fraud scheme. Investigations revealed he used Theobarth Global Foundation to promote a fake $20 billion grant, falsely linked to the Ford Foundation.

Victims, including individuals and organisations, were reportedly lured into paying N1.8 million each for registration and participation, under the guise of benefiting from the non existent grant.

The anti graft agency said the scheme generated about N1.39 billion from unsuspecting victims. It also confirmed that the Ford Foundation had no affiliation with Ebonyi or his organisation and publicly disclaimed any connection.

The Nigeria international is currently recuperating from an arm injury.

Osimhen was initially expected to be sidelined for up six weeks but the striker has made quick progress in his recovery.

According to information available on Galatasaray’s official website, the 27-year-old has now joined team training.

The Kaduna State Government is reforming its fiscal system with the signing of the State Tax (Consolidation) Law, 2025, by Governor Uba Sani.

The new law recently passed by the state House of Assembly, is designed to unify and simplify the state’s tax structure.

The legislation consolidates multiple existing tax laws into a single, comprehensive framework designed to streamline revenue collection, enhance transparency and ease the tax burden on residents and businesses within Kaduna.

This move, officials say, will eliminate inefficiencies, reduce duplication, and improve compliance among taxpayers.

By harmonising various levies, the government aims to address longstanding concerns about double taxation and the complexity of the tax system.

Speaking on the development, the state government highlighted that the reform was expected to significantly improve the ease of doing business in the state.

Entrepreneurs and corporate organisations are expected to benefit from a more streamlined and transparent tax payment process, reducing administrative burdens and costs.

Beyond simplifying taxation, the law is also positioned as a key driver of economic growth.

By strengthening internally generated revenue (IGR), the state government plans to channel more funds into critical infrastructure projects, social services, and development programs.

Meanwhile, the Joint Revenue Board has congratulated the Kaduna State Government on the successful passage and signing of the Kaduna State Tax (Consolidation) Law, 2025.

In a statement released shortly after the development, the board commended Governor Sani and the chairman of Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service for what it described as a bold and forward-thinking reform aimed at strengthening the state’s fiscal framework.

“Arsenal struggled to maintain possession, frequently resorting to long balls, and they passed back to the goalkeeper a staggering 39 times during the match, with David Raya recording the second-highest number of passes among Arsenal players.

“They effectively invited Bournemouth to press them, and that press is arguably one of the most effective in the Premier League, but it caught Arsenal off guard, and they rightfully earned the victory.

“I believe the most significant issue is that they have been outplayed in three of their last four matches – against City in the Carabao Cup final, Southampton in the FA Cup, and today.

“They secured a win against Sporting, but David Raya was one of their standout players in that match, making several crucial saves, indicating a concerning trend of being outplayed.

“They have exerted tremendous effort to reach this stage, but they must complete the task. Today, they exhibited a lack of courage, belief, and a bit of determination.”

Super Eagles striker, Akor Adams has made a successful return to scoring, netting a goal in Sevilla’s impressive 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid during a La Liga match on Saturday evening.

Adams was not the only Super Eagles forward present at the Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, as Ademola Lookman came on as a substitute in the 71st minute, while Chidera Ejuke remained an unused substitute for Los Rojiblancos.
