I Never Said There Were Errors In New Tax Laws ..Taiwo Oloyede

Statement Issued By 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑭𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒚 & 𝑻𝒂𝒙 𝑹𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒆

Our attention has been drawn to misleading media reports claiming that the Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has “finally admitted errors in the new tax laws.” These publications misrepresent the Minister’s statements, falsely alleging that he urged Nigerians to await the outcome of a “legislative probe”, a process that has long been concluded and the gazetted copies certified by the National Assembly published since early January 2026.

This twisted narrative is unhelpful as it risks distorting public understanding and misleading the very people the reforms were designed to benefit.

The Minister, during a recent fireside chat at the NBA SLP conference in Lagos, highlighted the early positive impact of the new tax laws, including thousands of informal businesses now seeking CAC registration daily while the number of individuals registered for tax purposes nationwide has increased from barely 10 million before the reform to over 100 million.

These impressive results stem from the robust design and progressive nature of the new laws, which include:

    – Exemption of small companies from tax.

    – Increased exemption thresholds for low-income earners.

    – Tax exemptions on basic consumption items like food, education, healthcare, transportation, and rent.

    – Introduction of the Tax Ombud to protect taxpayer right.

The Minister contrasted the transformative changes in the new laws with the regressive provisions in the old laws. He however emphasised that no law is perfect. Therefore, ongoing stakeholder engagement is essential to identify and address any errors or gaps for appropriate legislative updates through Finance Bills as part of a continuous improvement process.

We urge members of the public to disregard sensational headlines and twisted narratives and rely exclusively on official sources and credible media organisations for accurate information regarding the tax reform and other government policies.

    God bless Nigeria!

Police unseal PDP secretariat as Wike-led faction takes control

The Nigeria Police has unsealed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, granting access to a faction of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The development was confirmed by the factional National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, in a statement issued on Saturday through the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.

According to Mohammed, the unsealing of both the party’s national secretariat and its presidential campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, followed duly issued court orders.

He added that the properties have now been handed over to the Mohammed-led National Working Committee, with Samuel Anyanwu recognised as National Secretary.

He commended the police for what he described as professionalism and respect for due process, noting that the move reflects adherence to constitutional order.

“This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process,” he said.

He, however, warned that the party would not tolerate any form of obstruction, disruption, or breach of peace at the secretariat, stressing that security agencies are on standby to deal with violators.

Mohammed said the development should reassure members that the party’s recent internal crisis has been resolved, urging aggrieved stakeholders to set aside their differences and work towards unity.

He also expressed appreciation to party leaders and stakeholders, particularly Wike, describing his support as invaluable.

The police had initially sealed Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in November 2025 following violent clashes between rival factions within the party.

Meanwhile, the faction loyal to Tanimu Turaki has criticised the unsealing, describing it as contemptuous.

In a statement, its spokesman, Ini Ememobong, argued that the judgment relied upon by the police is currently under appeal, with all parties duly notified.

He warned that the action could undermine the outcome of the appellate process.

Ememobong further described the move as troubling, alleging that it suggests possible partisan interference by the police.

He, however, urged party members to remain peaceful and law-abiding, assuring that lawful steps would be taken to defend the rights of what he described as genuine PDP members.

He expressed optimism that the crisis would eventually be resolved, encouraging members to remain hopeful and committed to democratic principles.

“Though pain may tarry at night, joy will come in the morning. Let us endure with hope,” Ememobong said.

  • If we don’t win at Chelsea, title race is over – Guardiola tells Man City players

If we don’t win at Chelsea, title race is over – Guardiola tells Man City players

Pep Guardiola has warned his Manchester City squad that their upcoming clash with Arsenal will count for nothing unless they first beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

With the Premier League title race tightening after Arsenal’s slip-up at Bournemouth, the City manager stressed there is no margin for error as the season enters its final stretch.

City have been boosted by results elsewhere, but Guardiola insisted all focus must remain on Sunday’s trip to west London rather than the looming showdown with Arsenal.

“Talking about Arsenal, if you don’t win at Stamford Bridge – that’s not an easy place to go – maybe we don’t need to make the press conference before Arsenal because it’ll be over,” Guardiola told reporters.

“Everybody knows it. You know it, I know it, the players know it, everybody knows it. England knows it. So, there’s how many games left? You have to win all of them, all. Not one draw, no. Forget about it.”

With just eight matches remaining, Guardiola said his side must maintain a perfect record to have any chance of retaining the title, rejecting the idea that past success guarantees future results.

“The aura doesn’t make you feel wins. For most of the players, not now but in recent past, it’s just, ‘OK, we have done it many times, we can do it again’,” Guardiola explained.

“But that doesn’t define a season in the Premier League. The season in the Premier League is 11 months and in the 11 months, there were a lot of games that we were good, but not good enough to win. Because now we are not seventh or eighth in the Premier League, we are second and fighting. It’s not a bad season.”
