JetA1: Nigerian Govt speaks on aviation fuel price, assures robust supply
The Nigerian government has made a clarification on the price of aviation fuel, known as JetA1.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, George Ita-Enang explained that JetA1 stood at N1,960 per liter to N2,800 per liter, not above N3,000.
This comes as airline operators threaten to hike airfares and shut down operations amid the rising price of JetA1.
Reacting, NMDPRA assured the public that there is a robust supply of aviation fuel in the country with an inland stock sufficiency of 12 days and a refinery stock sufficiency of 62 days.
“Making a total of 74 days of national sufficiency,” the regulator stated.
“It is imperative to note that like other petroleum products, aviation fuel has been fully deregulated, and the price is driven by market dynamics.
“The prevailing ex-Gantry price of aviation fuel at Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemical Company (DPRP) is N1,879 per liter, which is slightly lower than the international indicative supply cost of N1,900 per liter in Lagos as of the 16th of April 2026.
“Meanwhile, the nationwide retail prices surveyed by the NMDPRA as of 17th April 2026 ranges between N1,960 per liter and N2,800 per liter. Therefore, the speculated N3,309 per liter price of aviation fuel being peddled in the media does not reflect current market reality.
“The NMDPRA, in line with its mandate, will continue to closely monitor the supply situation and take appropriate regulatory measures to prevent disruption of supply of petroleum products and profiteering across the country.
“While appreciating the continued efforts of all stakeholders in the aviation fuel supply chain in ensuring adequate supply and distribution of the product, the public is hereby assured of NMDPRA’s continued commitment to guarantee energy security in the country,” the statement said.
DAILY POST reports that the minister of aviation and aerospace development Festus Keyamo urged airline operators to halt plans to hike airfares and shut down services in Nigeria.

Customs intercepts N93m worth of petrol in Adamawa
The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has recorded seizures worth N93.03 million in Adamawa within six weeks under Operation Whirlwind, Zone ‘D’ Axis.
The National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, Mr Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this at a news conference on Friday in Yola.
Represented by the Comptroller-General, Dr Bashir Adeniyi, Aliyu said the operation supports efforts to safeguard food security, energy supply and national stability, in line with the mandate of President Bola Tinubu.
“Our gathering today is to showcase successes recorded through ongoing intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operations aimed at disrupting syndicates.
“The total Duty Paid Value of the seized items stands at N93,029,800.
“The Items seized include; 64,410 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS popularly called Petrol) concealed in 2,550 Jerry Cans of 25 litres each.
“Also three drums of 220 litres capacity of PMS, intended to be smuggled out of the country with two vehicles used for conveyance,” he said.
He said within six weeks, the operation recorded significant seizures of illegally exported goods across various locations through coordinated intelligence-based enforcement.
Aliyu said the unit recorded 47 seizures across Mubi-Sahuda, Farang-Belel, Gurin-Fufore, Maiha, Mubi and Pariya-Wuro Bokki axis.
He said operatives also intercepted a DAF tanker conveying 50,000 litres of PMS along Mubi-Uba road on April 15 over suspected diversion.
According to him, the tanker will be handed over to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for further action.
He said the successes followed intelligence-driven operations targeting smuggling syndicates across the state in accordance with enabling laws.
Aliyu said the seizures contravened provisions of section 150, 248 and 250 of the NCS Act, 2023.
He added that the operatives equally acted in accordance with section 226 of NCS Act, 2023 which gave power to patrol freely and apprehend the goods.
Aliyu attributed persistent smuggling to price disparities of petroleum products between Nigeria and neighbouring countries like Cameroon and Benin Republic.
He said the price differences continued to drive illegal exportation of petroleum products for profit by smugglers.
“Despite deregulation, government remains committed to ensuring market stability, national security and curbing illicit exportation of petroleum products,” he said.
Aliyu said the seized PMS would be auctioned in line with the law, with proceeds remitted to the Federation Account.
He reaffirmed the service’s commitment to dismantling smuggling networks and reducing illegal activities to the barest minimum.
Aliyu commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, NMDPRA, other security agencies and stakeholders for their collaboration.
He urged the public to support the fight against smuggling by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
Aliyu also called on the media to sensitise the public on the negative impact of smuggling on the economy and national security.

ADC accuses Tinubu of playing politics amid hardship
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of being overly focused on politics while Nigerians grapple with worsening economic hardship and insecurity.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the President’s recent remarks about the opposition as “unpresidential”, arguing that they show a disconnect from the realities facing citizens.
The reaction follows comments reportedly made by the President, in which he dismissed opposition parties and mocked them for holding their convention “on the street”.
The ADC said such comments suggest misplaced priorities at a time when many Nigerians are struggling with rising living costs, food inflation, and declining purchasing power.
“At a time when families are battling a historic cost-of-living crisis, the President chose to mock the opposition instead of addressing the suffering of Nigerians,” the statement said.
The party also raised concerns about the state of insecurity, noting reports of abductions and attacks affecting everyday life, while accusing the government of failing to respond adequately.
It rejected claims that its national convention was held on the street, describing the narrative as false and possibly the result of misinformation.
The ADC further alleged that the democratic space is shrinking under the current administration, claiming opposition parties are increasingly denied access to public venues.
“No government before now had denied political parties fair access to public venues such as Eagle Square, a national civic ground that belongs to all Nigerians, not to any ruling party,” the statement said.
On governance, the party accused the administration of weakening key institutions, saying: “The president also cannot preach separation of powers while simultaneously assuming the role of interpreter of the law, political referee, and commentator on judicial matters. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot be a president and a judge at the same time.”
The statement also criticised what it described as a recent attempt by the president to align with supporters of former President Muhammadu Buhari: “After years of distancing himself from the late President and denigrating his record, blaming him for every failure of his government, it is hypocritical to suddenly make a U-turn because of the coming election. It is too late.”
The ADC maintained that Nigerians are facing mounting hardship, insecurity, and debt, adding that it remains focused on presenting a credible alternative in the next general election.
