The report recommended that security presence in vulnerable communities be reinforced to check the planned attack.

It also recommended that surveillance and intelligence gathering should be intensified while relevant security agencies are placed on high alert.

Boko Haram issues 72-hour ultimatum, threatens to kill 416 captives [VIDEO]

Boko Haram has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Nigerian government over 416 captives in its custody.

The terrorist group had asked for ransom for the release of the captives, abducted in Borno State.

In a video seen by DAILY POST, a masked spokesperson of the terror group, speaking in Hausa, warned that failure to meet the group’s demands within the stated deadline would lead to the killing of a large number of those being held, including women and children.

The group claimed it is holding 416 captives and insisted that urgent steps must be taken before the time runs out.

The spokesman said in Hausa, “We are Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidwatu Wal-Jihad under Imam Abu. Today being 19th April 2026, we are giving out a new message to Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA) also to the Nigerian government who are not our government.

“This is our first and last message. We give you 72 hours if you do not meet our demands we will share out the woman and children to different locations. All of them. You have made your decision, and we have made ours. We instruct you, in the name of Allah, not to exceed the given time.”

Boko Haram did not specify its demands in the video.

Many politicians have reached out to join PRP – Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said many politicians are showing interest in joining the party ahead of future elections.

He made this known during an interview on Arise TV, where he described the PRP as a viable political option and said its doors are open to new members.

“In the last three or four weeks, you will be amazed at how many people have reached out to us and said, ‘We’re coming over to your party,’” he said.

According to him, the party is ready to receive anyone willing to join.

“Our doors are open to anybody who wants to come in, either on their own or because the system has blocked and virtually destroyed their party,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed added that the party’s role in the coming months would be much bigger than before.

He noted that the growing interest shows confidence in the PRP.

“We see our role in the next few months as far, far greater than anything we have done before,” he said.

He explained that those coming into the party are not doing so out of desperation but because of its long-standing values.

“They are not just coming as political refugees. They are coming because we are a party of principles,” he said.

The PRP chairman described the party as one of the oldest in the country.

“We are about 70 years old. We have always stood on certain principles,” he added.

While acknowledging that time may be a challenge in building momentum, Baba-Ahmed expressed confidence that the party would overcome it.

“We know Nigerians are ready for real difference, real change in the way this country is run,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed further noted that the party is already engaging with those interested in joining and has set basic conditions for entry.

“They know our doors are open. They know they are welcome. But we ask them to join the party first before we start talking to them,” he said.

Spurs Report Online Racism Against Kevin Danso To Police

Tottenham Hotspur have strongly condemned racist abuse directed at defender Kevin Danso following their 2-2 Premier League draw with Brighton on Saturday.

Danso made an error in stoppage time that allowed Brighton’s Georginio Rutter to score an equaliser, a result that kept Spurs in the Premier League relegation zone. After the match, the 27-year-old became the target of what the club described as “vile, dehumanising racism” on social media.

In a statement on Sunday, Tottenham said the abuse has been reported to the police and relevant authorities, and pledged to pursue strong action against those responsible.

“We will push for the strongest possible action against each person we identify,” the club said. “Kevin has our complete and unconditional support as a player and as a person. No one at this club will ever stand alone in the face of this.”

The club also emphasized that performance on the pitch cannot justify discrimination. “Nothing about form or league position can ever excuse or explain racist abuse,” the statement added. “We have heard and seen vile, dehumanising racism. Behaviour that is without doubt a criminal offence. It will not be tolerated.”

The incident occurred during the Premier League’s “No Room For Racism” campaign weekend, an initiative aimed at promoting diversity and tackling discrimination in football.

  • Alleged Partisanship: Utomi, Falana, etc Demand INEC Chairman Amupitan’s Resignation

Alleged Partisanship: Utomi, Falana, etc Demand INEC Chairman Amupitan’s Resignation

The Movement for Credible Elections (MCE) has called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, to resign immediately over allegations of partisanship, warning that he no longer commands the credibility required to oversee the 2027 general elections.

The group, which includes prominent figures such as Dr Usman Bugaje, Barrister Femi Falana (SAN), Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, Professor Pat Utomi, Hadjia Dr Bilikisu Magoro and Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, among others, said the integrity of the electoral body must not be compromised.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its Media Coordinator, Comrade James Ezema, the MCE urged Professor Amupitan to step aside to allow for an independent and transparent investigation into the allegations against him.

The group also called on the Federal Government to constitute an impartial panel comprising judicial officers, digital forensic experts and civil society representatives to ascertain the truth, while demanding an end to any form of intimidation or harassment of citizens raising concerns.

“The integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process is at stake,” the statement said. “At this critical juncture in the nation’s democratic evolution, the leadership of INEC must be beyond reproach.”

The MCE said recent developments, including alleged digital footprints linking the INEC Chairman to partisan expressions sympathetic to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), had triggered a crisis of confidence.

While noting that Professor Amupitan had denied the allegations, the group insisted that such denials do not resolve the matter in an era of advanced digital forensics, but rather heighten the need for thorough verification.

“In this digital age, denial is not a defence—it is an invitation to forensic scrutiny,” the statement added.

The group further warned that the controversy could escalate into a legal crisis, citing the traceability of digital identities through systems such as the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN), as well as device-level access logs maintained by digital platforms.

According to the MCE, attempts to frame public scrutiny as cybercrime or to threaten critics with arrest amount to a misuse of state apparatus and could further erode public trust.

Beyond the immediate allegations, the group expressed concern over what it described as a pattern of decisions by INEC that appear to undermine opposition participation, including alleged selective enforcement of electoral regulations.

It warned that such developments risk steering Nigeria towards a de facto one-party state, in violation of constitutional democracy.

The MCE also raised concerns about potential international repercussions, noting that aggrieved parties could seek redress at regional bodies such as the ECOWAS Court, exposing Nigeria to reputational damage and possible sanctions.

It maintained that the allegations, if proven, raise serious ethical questions about Professor Amupitan’s neutrality and fitness for office.

“The only honourable course is for the INEC Chairman to step aside and allow a transparent investigation,” the group stated.

“Nigeria stands at a democratic crossroads. The credibility of its electoral body is central to national stability and the legitimacy of governance.”

Another Nigerian Found Dead In UK apartment

Barely one week after a Nigerian mother of three died of cancer in the United Kingdom, another Nigerian father of three, identified simply as Herbert, has been found dead in his apartment.

This is just as the deceased was said to have left behind a wife and three young children, as his family appeals for financial support to cover funeral and repatriation costs.

It was learnt on Sunday from a post by an X user identified as ‘The Stress Manager’ that Herbert, who lived in Thornaby, died suddenly in his sleep last week, in what relatives described as a shocking and heartbreaking incident.

According to the post, the deceased had been battling emotional and financial strain following the death of his father in Nigeria just days before his own passing.

The post read, “Herbert, a calm and devoted Nigerian husband and father of three young children, the youngest just eight years old, passed away suddenly in his sleep in Thornaby.

“Only a few days before his death, he was already dealing with the pain of losing his father in Nigeria. He could not travel for the burial, but he gave everything he had financially to ensure his father had a dignified farewell. That alone drained him mentally and financially.

“Then the unimaginable happened. Herbert passed away on the very day his father was laid to rest.”

The X user added that the incident was particularly traumatic for the family, as Herbert’s children were the ones who discovered his lifeless body.

He noted that Herbert was a devoted husband and father, survived by three children, the youngest aged eight.

He added that following his death, the family has been left with the burden of caring for the children and raising funds to repatriate his remains to Nigeria for burial.

“To make it even more heartbreaking, his children were the ones who found him that morning because his wife was away at the time. No child should ever experience that.

“Now his wife is left alone to care for three young children while also facing the heavy financial burden of funeral and repatriation costs,” he added.

A former president of Nigerians in the UK, Benjamin Kuti, also confirmed Herbert’s death in a post on his X page on Friday.

Kuti also appealed to the Nigerian community in the UK to support Herbert’s family.

Meanwhile, a fundraising campaign has been launched to support the family, with an appeal to Nigerians in the UK and the wider public to assist.

As of the time of filing this report, a sum of £2,633 had been raised out of the £7,000 target.

NUJ Condemns NBC Attempts To Gag Broadcast Houses

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has criticised the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over its recent directive to broadcasters.

The NBC had said it has observed a rise in violations of the sixth edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code across news, current affairs and political programmes.

It warned that presenters who express personal opinions as facts or bully guests on air will face sanctions.

In a statement on Monday signed by Achike Chude, its national secretary, the NUJ described the warning as “a veiled attempt to gag the media and institutionalise censorship”.
