Kwara Governor Pledges N20m Each For Soldiers Killed In Attack

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has pledged N20m support for each of the three soldiers killed in a recent terrorist attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, alongside N5m each for six officers injured during the operation.

AbdulRazaq made the announcement during a get-well visit to the injured soldiers at the Intensive Care Unit of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin on Tuesday.

“Several of the terrorists were eliminated in the fierce encounter in which three gallant soldiers paid the supreme price,” he said.

The governor, who commended the sacrifices of the security personnel as priceless, also lauded the quality of care and facilities at the hospital.

He described it as one of the key health projects of his administration, while appreciating security forces for their service to the country.

Earlier on Monday, AbdulRazaq confirmed the killing of three soldiers during an attack on a military camp in Kemanji community, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

He said, “At about 3 a.m. today, we lost three gallant soldiers as they courageously beat back a terrorist’s attack on their position in Kemanji, Kaiama. These brave men not only repelled the terrorists and prevented them from accessing the community, but they also ensured that no one was kidnapped as the terrorists had intended.

“My sincere condolences are with the families and loved ones of these great men who have paid the supreme price in the service of our fatherland. We will never forget them and others like them in various theatres across the country.

“We will also continue to support their families and loved ones, while no resource will be spared to protect the lives and property of the people. Adieu, valiant soldiers!”

The attack, which occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Monday, reportedly began with the detonation of an explosive device at the military camp, causing significant damage.

Residents said the incident had been preceded by a threat letter allegedly sent by the attackers, heightening tension in the area days earlier.

Sources said the bandits fired gunshots indiscriminately, forcing villagers to flee, while security operatives, including soldiers and local vigilantes, engaged them in a fierce gun duel that lasted until about 5:00 a.m.

“The survivors were rushed down to a Hospital in Ilorin, and a lot of bandits were also killed during the gun battle,” a community source said.

Eyewitnesses described the situation as chaotic and distressing, noting that several residents had fled their homes, while the attackers were also reported to have carted away military patrol vehicles and motorcycles before fleeing the scene.

Taraba launches digital learning training for 500 teachers

The Taraba State Government has flagged off the first phase of training on the EIDU Digital Learning System, targeting 500 teachers as master trainers in a move to modernise classroom delivery across the state.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina Godwin, performed the flag-off on Tuesday, announcing that Jalingo and Ardo-Kola local government areas have been selected as pilot centres for the programme.

According to the commissioner, the initiative will equip selected teachers with digital teaching skills and tools, enabling them to train other educators across Taraba.

The programme, she explained, is designed to enhance classroom instruction, improve learning outcomes and promote data-driven teaching practices.

She charged the master trainers to act as change agents, stressing that the success of the pilot phase in Jalingo and Ardo-Kola will determine its expansion to other parts of the state.

Also speaking, the Permanent Member II of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Zachariah John, described the initiative as “a bold step toward repositioning basic education in Taraba for the demands of a digital age”. He commended the ministry and its partners for prioritising teacher development.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Idris A. Goje, said the rollout aligns with the education reform agenda of Governor Dr Agbu Kefas. He urged participants to fully embrace the programme and demonstrate excellence in their respective schools.

Supporting the ministry’s position, the Special Adviser on Education to the governor, Samaila Dauda Agbu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving teachers’ capacity, noting that investment in teachers directly impacts students’ futures.

The EIDU Digital Learning System is expected to provide structured digital lesson plans, offline learning materials and real-time coaching support for teachers.

IGP Visits NSCDC Boss To Deepen Collaboration

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Tuesday, paid a courtesy visit to the national headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.

The visit was aimed at reinforcing the working relationship between the two security agencies, according to a statement by NSCDC National Publication Officer, Afolabi Babawale.

Disu, while addressing the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Audi, and senior officers, said his visit was to deepen existing cooperation. Spanish Super Cup: Two teams qualify for next year’s tournament

Two teams have secured their presence at next year’s Spanish Super Cup, with the tournament’s remaining spots all but certain to be filled by LaLiga’s current top two.

As the 2025/26 campaign winds down, several key outcomes are still to be decided in the final stretch of LaLiga fixtures.

The two teams that will finish first and second in the LaLiga table will qualify for the next Super Cup as league champions and runners-up, according to AS.

So far, the only sides officially booked for the 2027 Super Cup are this season’s Copa del Rey finalists—winners Real Sociedad and runners-up Atletico Madrid.

With only seven matches left, Barcelona (79 points) and Real Madrid (70 points) have built a commanding cushion over the chasing pack.

Third-placed Villarreal, on 61 points, looks highly unlikely to close that gap considering the number of matches left.

However, mathematically, neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid has officially secured their Super Cup ticket just yet.

But if the current LaLiga standings hold, the Super Cup semifinals would pair Atletico Madrid with Barcelona, and Real Sociedad with Real Madrid.

BREAKING: Tinubu Sacks Edun, Dangiwa As Finance, Housing Ministers

…Elevates Oyedele As Coordinating Minister For The Economy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two cabinet members and the appointment of new officials to key ministries in a move aimed at strengthening governance and economic coordination.

The announcement was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

According to the statement, Mr. Wale Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, are to exit the cabinet as part of the restructuring.

The Presidency said the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance cohesion within the Federal Executive Council and improve the delivery of economic and development priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Following the reshuffle, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to assume the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Until his new appointment, he served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance. He is expected to take over full responsibilities after formal handover arrangements with Mr. Edun.

In the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as Ministerial Nominee and Minister-Designate.

He is expected to assume office following completion of the required administrative processes.

Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.

The memo further instructed that all handover and takeover procedures must be concluded on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026, in line with established government transition protocols.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, SGF George Akume said the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.

He noted that the objective was to improve synergy, coordination, and overall effectiveness within the cabinet.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.

The SGF added that the President remains committed to continuous review and reinvigoration of the Federal Executive Council to ensure it remains responsive to national priorities.

Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation, acknowledging their contributions during their tenure and wishing them success in their future endeavours.

The Presidency reiterated that the reshuffle is part of a broader effort to reposition key sectors of government for improved performance, particularly in finance, housing, and economic management.
