Turkey: Osimhen facing tough decision between Galatasaray, move to Arsenal, Barcelona

Super Eagles’ striker, Victor Osimhen, has been in the news a lot lately.

The fresh headline for today would have been that the 27-year-old had clinched back-to-back league titles with Galatasaray.

But that did not happen on Saturday night, as they suffered a shock 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor.

Osimhen failed to find the back of the net as Galatasaray saw bitter rivals, Fenerbahce close the gap to four points, with two fixtures left to play.

You do expect the Yellow and Red to wrap it up next weekend when they host Antalyaspor.

But after then, the conversations will spin back to Osimhen’s future.

The Nigerian striker has been attracting serious attention from Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea.

If Osimhen decides to move on, it would indeed be a difficult decision for him. The fans at the Rams Park have shown him the highest form of affection at different times.

“He finally feels at home at Gala,” Victor Oluwafemi, the Senior Social Media Manager at Sporty TV tells DAILY POST.

“This is what many players desire in their career and some never get it.

“It’s safe to say he has become a cult hero at the club in record-breaking time.

“I assume the circumstances surrounding his exit from Napoli fuelled this, turning down a ridiculous amount of money from Saudi for Gala is being rewarded by the fans. He should enjoy every bit of it.”

Oluwafemi believes Osimhen has to play with the best to truly be considered the best.

“I think he is one of the best strikers in the world and the best in the world don’t play in Turkey,” he said.

“They play in the elite league.

“The fans, and Nigerians deserve to see him wear a jersey of one of the elite clubs. Such talent shouldn’t be hidden in Turkey.”

It wouldn’t be a big surprise, however, if Osimhen decides to remain with Galatasaray for at least one more year.

A lot of observers have claimed that top clubs could switch their attention if he keeps turning them down.

Oluwafemi added: “The famous saying ‘never say never’ in football applies here.

“If Harry Kane can make a switch to Bayern late into his career, then Victor can still make a big move if he continues to deliver for Gala.”

Journalists’ Widows Get N3.8m At Richard Akinnola Foundation Anniversary

The Richard Akinnola Foundation has disbursed N3.8m to 38 widows of deceased journalists and activists as part of activities marking its 16th anniversary.

The event was held on Saturday at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, where beneficiaries also had their annual health insurance renewed.

The founder of the foundation, Richard Akinnola, said the cash support remains one of the organisation’s two major yearly programmes.

He said the foundation also provides assistance that is often kept out of the public eye, including support for rent, school fees and feeding for widows facing hardship.

Akinnola added that the foundation distributed blood pressure monitoring machines to all widows under its care last year.

According to him, some beneficiaries live outside Lagos. He added that bank transfers were being arranged to ensure they also received support.

He thanked friends and supporters who have contributed to the initiative over the years, but noted that more help is needed from individuals and corporate organisations as the financial burden of sustaining the programme continues to grow.

Speaking at the event, he said compassion, rather than wealth, is what drives charitable giving.

The foundation was established on April 10, 2010, to provide relief for widows and children of deceased journalists and activists who face financial difficulty after losing their breadwinners.

2027: Obi in consultations over next move – Obidient Movement

The Obidient Movement Worldwide has said the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, is currently engaged in extensive, high-level consultations with key stakeholders, political allies, and aligned movements over his 2027 ambition.

The National Coordinator of the Movement, Yunusa Tanko, made this known in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, the movement acknowledged the growing concerns and widespread reports regarding recent political developments in the political landscape and evolving engagements with current and potential partners.

Recall that Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, on Friday night stated that Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, would defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) next week.

According to Mohammed, the decision was sealed after a unanimous endorsement by stakeholders.

It was gathered that since the all-opposition political leaders’ summit in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in April, Obi has not attended any subsequent ADC meetings.

However, Tanko, in the statement, said Obi’s ongoing engagements with key stakeholders are focused on determining the most strategic and effective path forward in the best interest of the Nigerian people and their shared mission to build a new Nigeria.

“As a movement founded on integrity, accountability, and active citizen participation, we remain dedicated to ensuring that every decision taken reflects our values and long-term vision for the country,” the statement reads.

“These consultations are deliberate, thorough, and guided by the overriding objective of securing a future that works for all Nigerians,” he said.

  • NUPRC, NLNG Strategize To Boost Domestic Gas Output

NUPRC, NLNG Strategize To Boost Domestic Gas Output

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and Nigeria LNG Limited have intensified efforts to boost domestic gas supply as rising demand pushes NLNG to commit 100 per cent of its LPG production to the local market.

The Commission Chief Executive of NUPRC, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, said the regulator is intensifying reforms to support the Federal Government’s gas agenda, with a strong focus on increasing domestic utilisation.

According to a statement signed by the Head, Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, on Saturday, Eyesan made this known while receiving the Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Limited, Mr Adeleye Falade, during a courtesy visit to the commission.

She described the visit as timely, noting that since December, the commission had accelerated regulatory reforms to align with provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act.

Eyesan said the agency was deliberately repositioning itself to remove bottlenecks and improve ease of doing business in the upstream sector.

“We are deliberately repositioning the Commission as a business enabler. Through our monthly stakeholder engagements, we X-ray industry performance and resolve issues proactively to ensure they do not escalate,” she said.

She linked recent improvements in investor confidence to the government’s responsiveness to industry concerns, noting that this had begun to translate into increased final investment decisions.

Speaking on Nigeria’s gas ambitions, the NUPRC boss stressed that the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative was already yielding practical outcomes, particularly in driving domestic supply.

“The Decade of Gas is not aspirational; it is a practical framework for expanding domestic utilisation while strengthening export capacity,” she stated.

Eyesan, however, charged operators to match government efforts with a stronger commitment to performance and compliance.

“As government continues to be responsive, operators must demonstrate reciprocity through performance, compliance, and investment discipline,” she added.

In his remarks, Falade underscored the growing importance of collaboration across the upstream value chain to sustain gas availability, especially for the domestic market.

He disclosed that rising local demand for cooking gas had significantly reshaped NLNG’s supply strategy, forcing the company to prioritise Nigeria over export markets.

“Today, 100 per cent of our LPG production is dedicated to the domestic market, not due to reduced output, but because demand has expanded significantly,” he said.

He described the move as a deliberate intervention to deepen gas penetration and stabilise supply within the country.

Looking ahead, Falade expressed optimism about increased output, revealing that the ongoing Train 7 project would significantly boost production capacity.

“Train 7, expected to come on stream next year, will increase our production capacity by about 35 per cent, positioning us to scale both domestic supply and export volumes,” he said.

The development comes amid sustained efforts by the Federal Government to deepen gas adoption as a cleaner and more affordable energy source, with policymakers increasingly looking to domestic demand as a key driver of growth in the sector.

  • 2027: Nothing wrong with Wike backing my senatorial ambition — Ogbeide-Ihama

2027: Nothing wrong with Wike backing my senatorial ambition — Ogbeide-Ihama

A former member of the House of Representatives, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, said there was nothing wrong with seeking political support from Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State.

DAILY POST reports that Ogbeide-Ihama, an aspirant for the Edo South Senatorial District, stated this on Saturday, May 2, 2026, while addressing APC leaders and chieftains in the South Senatorial District during his formal declaration to contest for the Senate in the 2027 general election.

Ogbeide-Ihama, who represented Oredo Federal Constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, noted that alliances are part of the political process.

The APC senatorial hopeful, who recently resigned as Executive Director, Corporate Services of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), argued that politicians often receive backing across regions, adding that such support should not be criticised.

“I heard from some quarters that I went to meet the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for help in order to get the party’s ticket.

“If it is true that I met Wike for support, there is nothing wrong in it. Everyone needs support. If such an action can guarantee me the party ticket, so be it.

“If such is true, there is nothing bad in doing so because everyone needs help. If meeting Wike can guarantee me the ticket, it is fine by me.

“But instead of castigating Wike, we should commend and praise him for helping a Bini person achieve his political ambition. He is sponsoring and supporting a Bini person and not a Yoruba, Igbo, or Delta person for the position of Senate. We are all Bini.

“As Wike is supporting me, I also heard that some aspirants have gone to seek the support of general overseers of churches somewhere in Nigeria,” he said.

He narrated how an aspirant sought his assistance to link him or her to a chieftain of the PDP in the Southeast for political support, but he referred the person to Matthew Urhoghide, the former senator for Edo South, who eventually linked the person to the politician.

He said that, at the end of the day, the person got the ticket and won the election, noting that if an Edo politician could support someone in the Southeast, there was nothing stopping Nyesom Wike from supporting him.

He, however, alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in Edo State destroyed his campaign billboards during his previous re-election bid while in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him, the destruction of his campaign billboards at the time did not stop his victory at the polls.

“When I contested under the Peoples Democratic Party, my campaign billboards were pulled down several times, yet I still won the election.

“Now that I am in the APC, the election will be easier because I am among you,” he added.

Ogbeide-Ihama urged party leaders to ensure that the ticket is given to the most qualified aspirant, noting that the Senate requires experience rather than experimentation or newcomers.

While acknowledging that other aspirants are qualified, he opined that his experience in the House of Representatives gives him an edge over others.

The former lawmaker expressed confidence that his chances of securing the party’s ticket and subsequently winning the forthcoming senatorial election would be much easier now that he has joined the APC.

He highlighted some of his achievements in office to include the provision of streetlights and empowerment of constituents, promising to expand such efforts across the seven local government areas in Edo South Senatorial District if elected.

Earlier, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Pius Odubu, described the contest as a “family affair” and urged aspirants to conduct their campaigns peacefully.

Three Health Workers Die In Kwara Road Crash After Workers’ Day

Three members of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria in Ekiti Local Government Area have died in a lone road crash along the Oke-Onigbin–Omu-Aran highway in Kwara State.

The victims were returning from Workers’ Day celebrations in Ilorin when the accident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kabir Kazeem, said the crash involved a commercial Mazda bus with registration number ARP627KY.

He explained that the accident was caused by overspeeding, which led to a tyre burst and subsequent loss of control by the driver.

“Seven persons were involved in the crash, comprising three males and four females. Unfortunately, three of the female passengers died instantly,” he said.

FRSC rescue teams were deployed to the scene, evacuating the injured and the bodies of the deceased to a hospital in Omu-Aran for treatment and further procedures.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Area, Awelewa Gabriel, described the loss as devastating, noting that the victims were dedicated health workers who died while returning from a national event.

Also, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Nusirat Elelu, said the deceased were actively involved in the ongoing polio immunisation campaign and their contributions would be sorely missed.

She added that the injured victims are currently receiving treatment, while offering condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing the survivors a speedy recovery.

The FRSC has reiterated the need for motorists to obey speed limits and ensure proper vehicle maintenance to prevent avoidable accidents.

  • 2027: Battle for Zamfara North Senatorial District thickens as Shinkafi picks APC form

2027: Battle for Zamfara North Senatorial District thickens as Shinkafi picks APC form

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has declared his intention to run for the Zamfara North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

Shinkafi, a former governorship aspirant in the state, said that since the inception of democracy in 1999, the people of Zamfara North Senatorial District have lacked effective, efficient, and purposeful representation in the Senate.

He said this has denied the people the desired dividends of democracy.

He also noted that the Senate position has remained in one area of the senatorial district, depriving other local government areas in the zone of the opportunity to produce a senator, as obtainable in other senatorial districts.

The people of Zamfara North are said to be demanding that the senatorial seat be zoned to Shinkafi Local Government in the interest of justice, fair play, equity, and inclusivity.

“This will foster unity, peace, progress, and advancement of Zamfara North, which has been marginalised for long by previous administrations in the state,” Shinkafi said.

Sani Shinkafi, who served as Patron of the Tinubu–Shettima Presidential Campaign Council 2023; former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Secretary of the APGA Board of Trustees (BoT); Deputy Chairman of the Matawalle Governorship Campaign Council 2023, Zamfara State; and currently the Executive Secretary of Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, said he will bring his wealth of experience in national and state politics to transform his senatorial zone.

He said Zamfara State is an APC stronghold and expressed confidence that the party will win all elective positions in the state and deliver President Tinubu in 2027, as it did in the 2023 presidential election.

  • ADC Says Party Not Distracted As Obi, Kwankwaso Plan Exit

ADC Says Party Not Distracted As Obi, Kwankwaso Plan Exit

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has downplayed reports of a looming exit by two of its presidential aspirants, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, insisting that the party remains focused on its 2027 electoral ambitions.

Reports on Saturday indicated that the camps of Obi and Kwankwaso were considering a move to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to pursue a joint presidential bid.

Sources within both camps cited legal uncertainties surrounding the ADC and internal challenges that could hinder its ability to field candidates in the next general elections.

However, reacting to the development, the ADC dismissed concerns over its viability, describing such claims as distractions.

In a reaction by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said it remained committed to its core objective of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The ADC wishes to state, clearly and unequivocally, that we remain focused on our mission to rescue Nigeria from the failure of the APC-led government and to prevent the dangerous slide toward a one-party state,” Abdullahi said.

The party also rejected suggestions that it might be unable to participate in the 2027 elections, describing such claims as “entirely unfounded, mischievous, and designed to create confusion.”

“Let us be clear: the ADC will present candidates in the 2027 general elections — not just candidates, but credible, competent, and nationally acceptable candidates capable of leading this country out of its current crisis,” the statement added.

The ADC further maintained that it remained compliant with all constitutional and electoral requirements, stressing that there were no legal impediments to its participation in the polls.

“We are a law-abiding political party, fully compliant with the Constitution and the Electoral Act. Any suggestion to the contrary is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and dampen the growing momentum around our party,” Abdullahi said.

Reaffirming its position as a leading opposition platform, the party said it was focused on grassroots mobilisation and nationwide organisation ahead of the elections.

“We are not distracted by noise. We are focused on the real work — organising across the country, mobilising Nigerians who are tired of insecurity, rising cost of living, and limited opportunities, and building the structures required not just to contest, but to win,” the spokesman said.

The ADC urged its members and supporters to disregard speculation about its future, insisting that its preparations for the 2027 elections remain on course.
