  • Yari Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

    Yari Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

A former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has urged Northerners to support the re-election of Bola Tinubu come 2027, insisting that the region must now “pay back” the support extended to Buhari between 2015 and 2023 by Southern Nigeria.

Yari made the call during a meeting on Saturday with Islamic clerics in Talata-Mafara, where he also urged religious leaders to intensify prayers for lasting peace and security across the country.

According to the senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Southern Nigeria should be allowed to complete its eight-year tenure in the interest of national unity and political balance.

He insisted that the alliance between Northern Nigeria and the Southwest remains critical to national politics and electoral success.

Speaking on the need for political cooperation ahead of the next election cycle, the former governor described the partnership between both regions as a strategic and longstanding relationship that should be sustained.

“The election is around the corner, and this is the time that we need prayers, and this collaboration between Northern Nigeria and the Southwest is something that the Southwest have done its own bit between 2015 and 2023,” Yari said.

According to him, the Southwest stood firmly behind Buhari throughout his presidency, making it necessary for the North-West to reciprocate the gesture by backing Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“So we in this part of the country, especially we in the North-West, we have no reasons after Bola Tinubu and the Southwest gave Muhammadu Buhari all the support between 2015 to 2019 and 2019 to 2023 to his victory and his leadership.

“I think for us, it is time for us to pay back,” he added.

Yari also stressed the importance of regional balance in Nigeria’s leadership structure, arguing that power-sharing between the North and South remains essential for political stability and national unity.

“We need to understand that in this country, we have North and South, and there is no way the leadership will remain in Northern Nigeria,” he stated.

The former governor further pointed to the religious and cultural alignment between the North and Southwest as part of the factors strengthening the current political alliance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“From the Southwest, we are having the same culture of religion, which is why today we are having a Muslim-Muslim ticket,” he said.

Yari also urged continued support for Tinubu, saying the President deserves a second term in office.

“We have to support President Bola Tinubu for the second term in office, I think it has become obvious for us to do so,” he said.

  • Talks Underway For Real Madrid Return, Mourinho Confirms

Talks Underway For Real Madrid Return, Mourinho Confirms

Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that discussions are ongoing over a possible return to Real Madrid, following weeks of speculation linking him with the Spanish giants.

Speaking after Benfica’s latest outing, Mourinho admitted there has been contact between Real Madrid and his representatives, although no formal offer has been made directly to him.

“There is something,” Mourinho told reporters.
“My future should be decided this week. I have a proposal from Benfica. I don’t have a proposal from Real Madrid. But at the same time, we cannot hide that there is something happening.”

The former Real Madrid coach explained that discussions have so far been handled by his long-time agent Jorge Mendes and officials of the Spanish club.

“So far, there have only been talks between Real Madrid and Jorge Mendes, not with me,” Mourinho clarified.

“But none of us are naive, and there are conversations between Jorge, the president, and the club’s management.”

The comments come amid reports of growing uncertainty at the Santiago Bernabeu after another difficult campaign for Real Madrid.

The club reportedly endured a turbulent season marked by dressing-room tensions, disappointing performances, and failure to secure major silverware, increasing pressure on the club hierarchy.

Spanish media reports suggest club president Florentino Perez now sees Mourinho as a leading candidate to take charge again, ahead of other reported contenders including Mauricio Pochettino and Didier Deschamps.

Despite the speculation, Mourinho insisted that no agreement has been reached.

“I will personally speak to Real Madrid next week, and I’ll make my decision then,” he said.

The 63-year-old also stressed that he remains content at Benfica, where he is said to have received an attractive contract renewal offer.

“I was happy every day at Benfica,” Mourinho said. “There’s a 99 percent chance I’ll stay because I have a contract and a renewal offer that my agent says is excellent.”

However, his latest remarks are expected to further intensify speculation over a possible return to the Spanish capital.

When asked directly about Real Madrid, Mourinho responded with a smile: “I want Real Madrid to win their game tomorrow. That’s all I have to say.”

  • ‘Keep Your Head Up’ — Seyi Tinubu Consoles Cubana Chief Priest

‘Keep Your Head Up’ — Seyi Tinubu Consoles Cubana Chief Priest

Son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, has consoled celebrity businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, following his defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State.

THE WHISTLER reports that Cubana Chief Priest, who serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, had declared his intention earlier this year to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the APC platform.

His entry into politics in February attracted significant public attention, as he positioned himself as a voice for cleaner politics and greater youth inclusion in governance.

However, his ambition suffered a setback at the party primary, where he polled 14 votes and lost the ticket to the incumbent lawmaker, Canice Nwachukwu.

Following the outcome, Seyi Tinubu took to Instagram on Sunday to send words of encouragement to the nightlife entrepreneur, in a post later shared by Cubana Chief Priest.

“Bro, sometimes by losing a battle, you find a new way to win the war. Keep your head up @cubana_chiefpriest. We know what you are capable of achieving,” he wrote.

Cubana Chief Priest had earlier reacted in a video circulating online, expressing disappointment over the result but insisting he had no regrets about his decision to contest.

“I’m a hustler, and I didn’t regret trying to contest for a position. My only regret was trusting the elders in the community.

“I know how much I gave them, but only 14 people voted for me in the primary,” he said.

The outcome has since generated reactions on social media, with some users mocking his inability to secure the APC ticket despite his public support for the President.

Oyetola Leads Port Resilience Discussions As NPA Hosts African Leaders

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, is set to declare open the Board of Directors meeting of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA).

The three-day high-level gathering, scheduled for May 18–20, 2026, hosted by the Nigerian Ports Authority in Lagos, will bring together top maritime leaders and port administrators from across West and Central Africa to deliberate on the future of ports and regional maritime development.

With the theme, “Ports of the Future: Combining Logistical Resilience with Inclusive Community Development,” discussions will centre on strengthening port infrastructure, building resilient logistics systems, enhancing regional collaboration, and ensuring port growth translates into tangible socio-economic benefits for host communities.

Ahead of the meeting, Managing Director of NPA and chief host, Abubakar Dantsoho the first Nigerian to serve as President of PMAWCA described the gathering as a critical platform for shaping the future of ports in the sub-region.

According to him, the meeting offers maritime leaders and stakeholders an opportunity to reaffirm the strategic role of ports in driving global trade and economic development.

“The meeting affords us all, as Chief Executives and stakeholders, the platform to reiterate the pivotal role that ports play in shaping the future of humanity,” he said.

Dantsoho noted that ports remain gateways to prosperity, linking nations to international markets while serving as engines of economic integration and sustainable growth.

“With ports serving as gateways of prosperity and linking nations to the international community, their demonstrated leadership in advancing sustainable development goals cannot be overemphasized,” he added.

He further stressed that the sustainability of the global economy is closely tied to the resilience and efficiency of ports, particularly those in the West and Central African region.

The NPA boss assured participants of a conducive atmosphere for meaningful engagements capable of producing ideas and policy directions that will strengthen maritime cooperation and regional development.

The meeting is expected to feature deliberations on port security, infrastructure development, trade connectivity, and emerging strategies for building future-ready ports amid evolving global challenges.

It also reinforces Nigeria’s growing leadership within the regional maritime sector, coming on the heels of the country’s successful hosting of the 43rd PMAWCA Annual Council and Managing Directors’ Roundtable in 2023.

Deliberations during the meeting will also include reviews of PMAWCA midterm committee activities and broader discussions on advancing collaboration among member ports.

Okojie Secures APC Ticket For Reps In Edo

The member representing Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency, Henry Okojie, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2027 general elections after emerging unopposed at the party’s primaries.

Okojie, who chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream), was affirmed as the party’s candidate following the exercise in Edo State, where no other aspirant contested the seat.

The primaries took place across all wards in the federal constituency, and the result was declared at Ubiaja by the returning officer, Mr. Ambrose Ayewoh.

His emergence is seen by party stakeholders as a reflection of growing confidence in his representation and influence within the constituency and the ruling party in Edo State.

Okojie, who was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2023, has remained a prominent voice on energy and petroleum sector reforms in the National Assembly, particularly through his leadership of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream).

His unopposed return ticket comes amid ongoing efforts by the APC leadership in Edo State to consolidate party structures following the emergence of Governor Monday Okpebholo and ahead of the next general election cycle.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the media unit of Okojie’s office, the lawmaker was quoted as thanking party members and constituents for what he described as their continued trust and support, promising to intensify efforts at delivering democratic dividends to the people.

“Today (Saturday), I am deeply humbled and honoured to emerge victorious in the APC primary election. I sincerely thank the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, and our great party, the All Progressives Congress, for the confidence reposed in me to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming election to return to the National Assembly.

“I thank Mr President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his fatherly role in steering the affairs of this party.

“My profound appreciation also goes to the leaders of our party, members, supporters, and the good people of our constituency for your trust, encouragement, and overwhelming support throughout this process.

“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to all of us who believe in purposeful leadership, unity, progress, and effective representation.

“I remain committed to serving our people with dedication, loyalty, and integrity. Together, we will continue to build a stronger future for our constituency and uphold the ideals of our great party,” he said.

The federal lawmaker further praised the conduct of the APC primaries across the nine federal constituencies in Edo State, describing the exercise as peaceful and orderly.

He urged party supporters and residents of the state to remain law-abiding and continue to support the APC as preparations begin for the 2027 polls.

APC Primaries: Daura Rejects Buhari’s Victory, Alleges Irregularities

The House of Representatives primaries election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State has been thrown into controversy following the rejection of the result by one of the contestants, Auwalu Musa Daura.

Auwalu, who contested against Yusuf Buhari, dismissed the outcome of the primary election, alleging that the process did not comply with established APC guidelines.

The election, held on Saturday, was declared in favour of Yusuf Buhari, who was announced as the party’s candidate after reportedly polling 17,342 votes against Auwalu’s 480 votes.

However, Auwalu faulted the conduct of the exercise, claiming that several participants involved in the voting process were not registered members of the APC. He insisted that the exercise fell short of due process and internal party standards.

According to him, the irregularities observed during the primary undermined the credibility of the result, making it unacceptable.

Auwalu had earlier resisted calls for a consensus arrangement in favour of Yusuf Buhari, insisting on participating in the contest despite reported party-level efforts to streamline the process.

The development has sparked tension within the constituency, as stakeholders await the party’s official response to the allegations raised by the aggrieved aspirant.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Buhari had earlier described the primary as peaceful and credible, urging dissatisfied aspirants to seek redress through appropriate party or legal channels.

He also expressed confidence in his political future, stating that his ambition is driven by a desire to promote youth inclusion and development in the constituency.

The APC leadership is yet to issue an official reaction to the rejection of the primary results.
