Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi and retired General Jafar Muhammad Gajere have emerged as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates for the Kebbi North and Kebbi South Senatorial Districts through consensus arrangements.
The Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee in Kebbi State, Garba Muhammad, announced the development on Monday at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin-Kebbi during the party’s senatorial primary.
He said Senator Yahaya Abdullahi emerged as the APC candidate for Kebbi North, while retired General Jafar Muhammad Gajere secured the party’s ticket for Kebbi South.
Gajere reportedly emerged unopposed through consensus following the resignation of Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South Senatorial District, from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Governor Nasir Idris, who attended the primary election, said all senatorial candidates across the three districts in the state emerged through consensus after other aspirants stepped down in the interest of party unity.
He said the emergence of consensus candidates reflected unity, discipline, and political maturity within the APC in Kebbi State.
The governor described APC members in the state as disciplined and law-abiding, expressing confidence that the party would record victory in the general elections.
Speaking after his affirmation, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi expressed appreciation to Governor Idris and other party leaders for their support and confidence.
Retired General Gajere also thanked the governor and APC stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to work for the unity and progress of the party in Kebbi South.
The two candidates urged APC members to remain united and mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nigeria’s electricity generation companies recorded a slight decline in available capacity in the fourth quarter of 2025, a report by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed.
The data shows that 28 power plants, comprising five hydroelectric plants, two steam plants, 19 Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) plants, and two Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plants, supplied electricity to the grid during the period.
According to the report, the average available generation during the period decreased by 29.96MW (-0.55%) from the 5,430.34MW recorded in 2025/Q3 to 5,400.38MW.
Out of the 28 grid-connected plants, 17 recorded decreases in available generation capacity, while ten posted improvements.
The commission stated that the Alaoji power plant remained at zero availability throughout both quarters.
It added that among the worst-hit plants were Ibom Power_1, which recorded a 55.37 per cent decline in available capacity, Geregu_2 with a 42.27 per cent drop, Omotosho_1 with 38.67 per cent, Ihovbor_1 with 32.95 per cent and Afam_2 with a 32.47 per cent decline.
However, during the period, Rivers_1 recorded the highest increase in available capacity at 209.95 per cent, followed by Afam_1 at 139.87 per cent, Kainji_1 at 35.31 per cent and Sapele_2 at 34.87 per cent.
In the hydropower segment, it stated that Shiroro_1 recorded a decline in available capacity from 397.99MW in Q3 to 382.58MW in Q4 due to mechanical repairs and annual maintenance carried out on some generating units during the quarter.
According to the data, Kainji_1 increased its available capacity by 149.46MW, while Jebba_1 and Zungeru_1 recorded increases of 54.34MW and 13.80MW, respectively.
The data also shows that the average Plant Availability Factor (PAF) for all grid-connected plants stood at 39.64 per cent in Q4 2025, indicating that more than 60 per cent of the country’s installed generation capacity was unavailable for dispatch during the quarter.
During the period, nine plants recorded availability factors above 50 per cent, with Zungeru_1 and Ikeja_1 achieving 100 per cent availability during the period.
According to the data, Ibom Power_1 posted a PAF of 2.16 per cent, while Alaoji_1 remained completely unavailable for dispatch.
Despite improvements recorded at Rivers_1, Kainji_1 and Ihovbor_2, the overall industry PAF declined slightly by 0.22 percentage points from 39.86 per cent in Q3 to 39.64 per cent in Q4.
But Geregu_2 recorded one of the sharpest declines in plant availability factor, dropping by 17.90 percentage points due largely to maintenance outages affecting one of its generating units.
Other plants that posted notable declines in availability factor included Okpai_1, Omotosho_1 and Afam_2.

Concerned members of the African Democratic Congress from the Ogun East Senatorial District have petitioned the party’s National Secretariat, demanding the disqualification of a governorship aspirant, Otunba Jimi Lawal, over corruption allegations.
The members in the petition addressed the Chairman, Governorship Screening Committee, ADC, National Secretariat, Abuja, on Sunday, urged the party leadership not to clear Lawal for the forthcoming governorship primaries.
The petitioners, Olabisi Omolaso, Haruna Owolabi, Keshiro Daniel, Ezekiel Abidemi, Onamuyiwa Olumuyiwa, and Ibrahim Aliyat argued that presenting an aspirant heavily burdened with legal battles and integrity issues would severely jeopardize the party’s electoral fortunes in Ogun.
DAILY POST reports that the petition dated May 17, 2026 and received at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on May 18, highlighted an ongoing criminal prosecution instituted against Lawal by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), among others.
Part of the petition reads, “ADC cannot continue to present itself to Nigerians as a credible alternative political platform while simultaneously entrusting its governorship ticket to an aspirant currently facing criminal prosecution and burdened with unresolved allegations bordering on corruption, money laundering, abuse of office, fraud, and financial misconduct.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has already instituted criminal proceedings against Otunba Jimi Lawal before the Federal High Court, Kaduna, in Charge No. FHC/KD/16C/2025.
“Otunba Jimi Lawal was charged alongside Umar Waziri, Yusuf Inuwa, and Solar Life Nigeria Limited over allegations relating to money laundering and unlawful movement of public funds.
“Otunba Jimi Lawal has also reportedly been linked to investigations surrounding the controversial N10.8 billion Kaduna State CCTV Security Project for which fresh criminal charges were reportedly filed by the ICP against former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and others.
“This allegation is particularly disturbing because the CCTV project involved public security infrastructure intended to protect lives and property. Any allegation involving diversion, embezzlement, or fraudulent handling of public security funds raises very serious moral and ethical concerns about fitness for public office.
“Distinguished members, the implications of clearing Otunba Jimi Lawal despite these overwhelming controversies are enormous:
It will damage the anti-corruption credibility of ADC; It will hand opposition parties dangerous propaganda materials; It will weaken public confidence in our party, It will portray ADC as a refuge for politically exposed persons facing corruption allegations and may ultimately jeopardize the electoral fortunes of our party in Ogun State” they added.
According to them, Nigerians need credible, transparent, and morally upright leaders, not politicians associated with corruption and financial scandals.
They, however, demanded his disqualification pending the outcome of all cases and investigations against him, arguing that the party should not sacrifice its integrity, public image, and future electoral success for the ambition of any single individual.
