War: We’re ready to help in US-Iran talks – Russia

Russia has expressed readiness to help with talks between the US and Iran in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.

Russian deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, made this known as quoted by TASS state news agency.

“Russia is ready to provide all possible assistance in resolving this conflict, and the parties involved are well aware of this,” Ryabkov said.

DAILY POST reports that since Donald Trump began his second term in the White House, the US and Russia have grown closer, with Vladimir Putin meeting the US President in Alaska last year.

Trump often talked up his relationship with Putin, and he has been accused of pandering to him despite Russia’s ongoing war on Ukraine, which it started in February 2022.

Putin is currently in China, a week after Trump met Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Sowore blasts Tinubu over insecurity after Oyo school attack

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has again criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the country’s security situation following reports surrounding the killing of a teacher abducted during a school attack in Oyo State.

The remarks were contained in a statement posted on Sowore’s official page.

Sowore referenced comments he made during the 2023 election period, where he said he warned Nigerians about the possible consequences of Tinubu’s administration.

“During the 2023 election season, I went on Agidigbo FM 88.7, warning Nigerians and particularly Yorubas about the disaster Bola Ahmed Tinubu would bring upon the country. Sadly, many refused to listen.

“I was also on Miliki 101.3FM in Lagos, saying the same thing, but callers kept phoning in telling me to shut up.

“Now look at what ‘Emilokan’ has done to you all. Tinubu is a disaster!

“NB: The photo here is reportedly that of the mathematics teacher pleading for his life after bandits raided a secondary school in Oyo State and abducted several others before later beheading him,” Sowore stated.

  • China’s President Hosts Putin In Beijing Days After Trump’s Visit

China’s President Hosts Putin In Beijing Days After Trump’s Visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing on Wednesday, hosting the Kremlin leader at a formal welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People just days after U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his own state visit to China.

Putin’s visit comes only days after Trump’s own trip to Beijing. Experts say the sequence is cementing Beijing’s image as an influential superpower.

“The message is clearly one that China maintains friendship and strategic partnership with whichever power it likes, and the USA is just one of them,” said Steve Tsang, director of the SOAS China Institute at the University of London.

Following the welcoming ceremony, the two delegations held bilateral talks, with a signing of cooperation agreements expected to follow.

The leaders were also scheduled to meet again in the evening at a gala reception marking the 25th anniversary of the Sino-Russian Treaty of Friendship.

Putin described Russia-China relations as having reached a “truly unprecedented level” in remarks carried by Chinese state media ahead of the trip. On the economic front, the two sides signalled significant progress on energy cooperation.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov revealed that Russia’s oil exports to China grew by 35 percent in the first quarter of 2026, with Russia also emerging as one of China’s biggest natural gas suppliers.

Putin noted earlier this month that the two countries had made “a very substantial step forward” in oil and gas cooperation, and expressed hope that final details would be wrapped up during the Beijing visit.

The deepening economic ties come against a backdrop of sweeping Western sanctions on Moscow following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

China, which has declared neutrality in the conflict, has nonetheless become Russia’s top trading partner and its largest customer for energy exports.

Western governments have also accused Beijing of supplying high-tech components used in Russia’s weapons industry, accusations China has not acted on.

Putin was also quick to give his blessing to Xi’s diplomacy with Washington. “We stand only to benefit from this, from the stability and constructive engagement between the U.S. and China,” Putin said, adding that Moscow views closer U.S.-China dialogue as a stabilising force for the global economy.

The sequence of summits, Trump one week and Putin the next, underscores Beijing’s growing role as a key player in global diplomacy.

  • Lagos DSVA receives over 450 domestic violence complaints monthly

Lagos DSVA receives over 450 domestic violence complaints monthly

Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, has disclosed that it now receives over 450 complaints of domestic violence every month across its various reporting platforms.

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, made this known on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement and technical training session on the Lagos Emergency Responder Management System, held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ikeja.

The event was organised by the Lagos State Command and Control Centre as part of efforts to reduce delays in emergency response and strengthen coordination among relevant agencies.

Vivour-Adeniyi stated that the agency records between 400 and 450 new domestic violence cases monthly through its toll-free hotline, social media channels, and other online reporting platforms.

She noted that while the figures remain significant, they likely represent only a fraction of actual cases, as domestic and sexual violence continues to be widely under-reported both in Lagos and globally.

“We know we’ve not scratched the surface because these issues remain some of the most under-reported crimes, not just in Lagos or Nigeria, but globally. But we are encouraged that more people now have faith in the system,” she said.

According to her, increased public awareness has encouraged more victims to seek help through emergency lines, agency offices, and digital reporting channels.

She added that the agency operates a 24-hour virtual referral and response system for gender-based violence cases in collaboration with emergency responders and the state Command and Control Centre.

“The idea is to ensure that regardless of the time or day, anybody who calls the 203 line can access critical services such as emergency response and psychosocial support,” she said.

Vivour-Adeniyi explained that the DSVA was established to coordinate responses to domestic and sexual violence cases across Lagos State, stressing that such violence is not limited to physical abuse alone.

She noted that the state’s Protection Against Domestic Violence Law also recognises emotional and verbal abuse as forms of domestic violence.

“We continue to increase awareness and let people know they should not die in silence. The fact that the abuse is not physical does not make it less harmful,” she added.

The agency chief also cautioned parents against concealing cases of sexual abuse involving children, warning that such actions amount to obstruction of justice.

She referenced legal provisions that criminalise the concealment of sexual offences, stating that offenders could face up to three years imprisonment.

Vivour-Adeniyi urged parents and guardians to make use of available support systems to ensure victims receive protection, care, and access to justice.

PUBG MOBILE, a dominant force in global mobile gaming and one of the most played battle royale experiences in the world has launched its Version 4.4 Update, unveiling its most expansive content drops to date. The update blends mythological storytelling, enhanced squad systems, and deeper gameplay mechanics to deliver a refreshed experience for players across Nigeria and beyond.

The update, which will be available till July 7, 2026, introduces Hero’s Crown, a new themed mode inspired by ancient Greek mythology. Classic battlegrounds across Erangel, Livik, and Rondo are reimagined with striking environmental changes and new combat hotspots, including redesigned zones such as Yasnaya Polyana, Ruins, Ferry Pier, and Mylta.

The highlight of the mode is the Crown’s Abode, a floating endgame arena where top squads compete for high-tier rewards while facing Helios, a powerful centaur boss. Throughout each match, players earn Glory by completing themed trials that test different combat and teamwork skills. These include Achilles’ speed-based challenges, Spartan survival defence waves, Prometheus’ fire-lighting objectives, and Icarus’ aerial obstacle courses, alongside additional Gryphon mini-games that appear across the map.

New myth-inspired gameplay tools further deepen strategy and mobility. Players can activate the Heart of Fury dash ability for combat bursts, deploy the Battle Flag to boost teammates within a zone, or use Wax Wings to glide across terrain for repositioning. A standout addition is the Laurel – M1 Garand, a weapon that evolves visually as players progress. In a unique gameplay twist, defeating Helios allows squads to recruit him as a temporary ally with offensive and support abilities.

Classic Mode also receives meaningful upgrades. The new Roadster convertible introduces high-speed traversal with turbo boost capabilities, while the Panzerfaust becomes more widely available across maps. The JS9 weapon sees expanded distribution, accompanied by broad weapon balancing adjustments across rifles, shotguns, and sniper categories. To enhance social gameplay, the new Flash Crew system helps players connect with compatible teammates, build Rapport, and unlock shared rewards through improved coordination. Nigeria didn’t fall under my watch – Gowon

Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has said that Nigeria did not fall under his watch.

Gowon said this on Tuesday in Abuja during the launching of his 859-page autobiography, My Life of Duty and Allegiance, titled “No Going Back.”

According to him, complex solutions are creating unnecessary tension in every nook and cranny of the country.

The ex-military leader further expressed worry that Nigerians never get tired of presenting difficult solutions to simple problems.

He said citizens would rather complicate the simple problems with more complex and ambiguous solutions that would generate tension in the country.

Gowon said he believed that the book would correct those misgivings.

“On my watch as Head of State, the country did not fall. And I am confident that, despite all its challenges, the nation still will not fall.

“My belief is that this book will help correct misconceptions and fill the gap in public narratives,” he said.

  • Lagos: LAMATA prohibits carrying of heavy luggage on regulated buses

Lagos: LAMATA prohibits carrying of heavy luggage on regulated buses

Lagos State Government has announced a prohibition on the transportation of goods and heavy luggage on all regulated public transport buses operating within the state.

The directive is set to take effect from June 1, 2026.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, through its Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi.

According to LAMATA, the decision was prompted by increasing complaints and operational difficulties arising from the use of regulated buses for carrying goods and bulky items, a practice the agency said has negatively affected passenger comfort, safety, and overall service efficiency.

The authority explained that the directive was agreed upon during a strategic engagement between LAMATA and operators of bus companies, including heads of operations and maintenance units, where stakeholders resolved that the practice must be discontinued and restructured to ensure a more efficient and sustainable transport system.

LAMATA stressed that enforcement of the ban would be strict and uncompromising.

It warned that any bus driver found violating the directive by transporting goods during the enforcement period would face immediate dismissal and blacklisting.

The agency further stated that any terminal or ground staff, including LAMATA personnel, found assisting or permitting the loading of goods onto regulated buses would be summarily removed from service without exception.

“LAMATA emphasised that the enforcement of the suspension will be strict and uncompromising. Any bus driver found violating the directive by conveying goods during the suspension period will face immediate sack and be blacklisted.

“In addition, any ground staff or LAMATA personnel at terminals or loading points found aiding, permitting, or facilitating the loading of goods onto regulated buses will be summarily dismissed without exception,” the statement read.

The authority maintained that there would be zero tolerance for non-compliance, adding that the government remained committed to restoring order, safety, and efficiency in Lagos’ public transport system.

It urged commuters, transport operators, terminal officials, and the general public to comply fully with the new directive and make alternative arrangements for the movement of goods.

LAMATA reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a safer, more reliable, and commuter-friendly transportation system across the state.
