  • AAC chairman, aspirant clash over Osun East senatorial ticket

AAC chairman, aspirant clash over Osun East senatorial ticket

Chairman of the African Action Congress, AAC, in Osun State, Tayo Adeyemi, and a senatorial aspirant, Omotayo Folaranmi, have disagreed over plans to void the party’s Osun East Senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The AAC state leadership had insisted that the senatorial ticket should not be contested.

The disagreement occurred during the party’s senatorial primary held on Saturday in Osogbo.

The primary, held behind Ralade Filling Station in Osogbo, was attended by party members and aspirants seeking various elective positions under the platform of the AAC.

Adeyemi, who led the state leadership at the venue, directed Folaranmi and his co-contender, Adewoyin Mojeed, to relinquish their ambitions for the senatorial seat and instead pursue House of Representatives tickets in their constituencies.

According to Adeyemi, “the decision followed consultations among elders and leaders of the party in the state concerning the strategy for the 2027 elections.

“The elders of the party met today and our agreement is not to pick anyone for the senatorial ticket of the party for Osun East.”

Folaranmi, however, rejected the proposal and maintained that he remained committed to contesting for the senate seat under the platform of the party.

He stated, “They have said we should step down for each other, and my co-contender has decided to do so, leaving only me as the aspirant. The leadership of the party should announce me as the consensus candidate instead of wasting the chances of our party.”

The aspirant appealed to the national leadership of the party to intervene and give a final decision on the matter, insisting that he had worked towards securing the senate ticket for a long period.

Folaranmi also urged his supporters to remain calm while calling on the party leadership to ensure fairness and justice in resolving the dispute over the Osun East Senatorial ticket.
