The Managing Director of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Sunday Thompson Sunday, has said Deposit Insurance Funds, DIFs, are critical to the stability of the country’s financial sector.
He disclosed this in a statement by NDIC’s spokesperson, Hawwau Gambo, after a visit by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Mr. Tanimu Yakubu, in Abuja.

In a move aimed at boosting healthcare delivery across communities, the Niger State Government has absorbed 396 health workers previously funded under a UNICEF and GAVI-supported programme into the State Civil Service.
The workers, made up of nurses, midwives and community health personnel, were formally presented with appointment letters during a ceremony attended by health officials and stakeholders in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Mohammed Bagana, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Abdullahi Imam, said the decision became necessary to sustain healthcare services at the grassroots where manpower shortages remain a major challenge.
He explained that UNICEF and GAVI had earlier partnered with the state after discovering gaps in human resources within many healthcare facilities.
According to him, the development partners agreed to support the recruitment of young healthcare professionals on the condition that the state government would eventually take over their employment.
“Healthcare delivery is not only about buildings and equipment. Without trained personnel, quality services cannot be achieved,” he said.
The commissioner noted that the foundation for the programme was laid during the administration of former Governor Abubakar Sani Bello through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, while Governor Muhammad Umar Bago sustained the commitment that led to the permanent absorption of the workers.
He disclosed that many of the affected workers had already spent between two and three years serving in rural communities and would remain in their current duty posts to continue building on the relationships and experience they had gained.
Bagana added that the workers also have opportunities to advance academically and grow into higher professional cadres within the civil service.
The commissioner further commended Governor Bago’s investments in the health sector, revealing that over 3,000 healthcare professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, laboratory scientists and community health workers, have been recruited within the last three years.
He also stated that no fewer than 116 Level Two health facilities across the state have been upgraded to strengthen access to maternal healthcare, immunisation, nutrition and laboratory services.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Inuwa Junaidu, described the development as a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services in Niger State.
Also speaking, Programme Manager, Pharm. Daniel Jiya, said the absorption marked the successful completion of a three-year effort driven by collaboration among stakeholders.
He urged the newly employed workers to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and comply with civil service regulations.

Social media critic and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has reacted to the sexual advance accusation levelled against him by former BBNaija winner, Phyna.
DAILY POST reports that Phyna on Sunday alleged that VeryDarkMan withdrew from his late sister’s case because she refused his sexual request.
Reacting to the controversial allegation in an Instagram video, VeryDarkMan questioned if it’s a crime for him as an adult to ask a lady for sex, noting Phyna is not an underage girl.
While denying the allegation, VeryDarkMan, who is curious to see Phyna’s alleged evidence, said, “Phyna said that I, VeryDarkMan, wanted to sleep with her. She said she has evidence, I will like to see the evidence first because I have never told Phyna that I wanted to sleep with her.
“Number 2, what if I told Phyna that I wanted to sleep with her. Is there a problem with that? Both of us are adults. If I tell you that I want to sleep with you, that would be me seeking your consent. Thank God say, you no talk say I want to rape you or spike your drink so that I can knack you. For you to talk say you get evidence mean say I even asked you. That’s the way it should be done as an adult and thank God say you no be underage.
“So, even if VDM talk say he want sleep with you, what is the problem? I’m not married and she’s also not married. So what really is the matter even if I talk am? I no talk am ooo but what if I talk am.”

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts toward ending insecurity in the country, describing the situation as unbearable and intolerable for Nigerians.
The call was made during a peaceful procession held in Sokoto State at the end of the fellowship’s three-day national prayer and fasting programme.
Speaking during the event, the National President of PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, represented by the Sokoto State Chairman of PFN, Pastor Ben Musa, said Christians across the country had been urged to unite in prayers for God to intervene and defeat the enemies threatening Nigeria’s peace and stability.
Members of the fellowship, visibly disturbed by the worsening security situation, carried placards bearing inscriptions such as “Protect the Innocent,” “Nigeria Must Be Safe,” and “No to Economic Hardship,” among others.
The group appealed to the Federal Government to fulfil its constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
According to PFN, the organisation resolved to speak out against insecurity in the hope that the government would give urgent attention to the crisis.
The fellowship lamented that innocent Nigerians were being kidnapped, raped and killed repeatedly, while political leaders allegedly continued with “business as usual” despite the bloodshed across the country.
PFN described the attacks as “unspeakable and despicable acts of terror”
“We are burdened by the loss of our sense of humanity. We are burdened by the unchecked activities of bandits, murderous herdsmen attacking farmers on their farms, and Boko Haram insurgents using religion as a cover to perpetrate violence against peaceful Nigerians across the country,” the group stated.
The fellowship further expressed concern over what it described as the absence of strong political will to decisively tackle insecurity.
“Most especially, we mourn the apparent lack of firm political will by the government to crush these horrible evils in Nigeria, allowing them to spread unchecked with empty promises that have achieved little,” PFN stated.
The organisation added that Nigerians were tired of insecurity and accused political leaders of placing greater emphasis on elections than on ending violence and protecting citizens.
PFN also criticised the rehabilitation of repentant Boko Haram members, alleging that some were being integrated into the nation’s security structure.
On the way forward, the fellowship urged the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive action to end the killings and restore peace across the country.
PFN, however, expressed optimism that God would intervene to break the cycle of violence, secure the release of captives and restore lasting peace to Nigeria.
“The blood of innocent Nigerians demands more than promises. It demands immediate and effective action”
