Health officials oppose alleged U.S, Kenya Ebola facility talks

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) has rejected alleged backdoor negotiations between the Kenyan government and the United States over plans to establish an Ebola quarantine and treatment facility at Laikipia Air Base.

In a statement signed by Secretary-General, Dr. Davji Bhimji Atellah, the union accused the government of compromising national biosecurity and “trading the lives of citizens for foreign aid.”

KMPDU questioned why Kenya was being considered to host potentially exposed individuals linked to the ongoing Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, and Uganda, instead of countries close to the epicenter.

The union also criticised the safety logic of transporting exposed persons into Kenya, arguing that if a return flight to the United States is deemed unsafe, it should not be considered safe to bring such individuals into Kenyan territory.

It further accused the U.S. of applying double standards, citing its stated policy of not allowing Ebola cases into its own territory.

KMPDU also expressed concern that the move could worsen pressure on Kenya’s already strained health system, which it said is facing shortages of essential medicines, diagnostic tools and critical care infrastructure, alongside unemployment among medical personnel.

The union warned against what it described as the emergence of a “two-tier healthcare system” that sidelines local professionals in favour of foreign personnel.

It issued a 48-hour ultimatum, demanding full disclosure of the alleged negotiations and warned of nationwide industrial action if the government proceeds without transparency.

US vs Iran: Pakistan minister arrives Washington as mediation efforts continue

The Pakistani Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has arrived in Washington within the last few hours, to meet US secretary of state Marco Rubio as mediation efforts continue to end the crisis between the United States and Iran.

DAILY POST reports that Pakistan has largely spearheaded mediation efforts between the US and Iran during the war.

Dar spoke to the US President Donald Trump over the weekend and said that the conversation marked a significant step closer towards regional peace.

“The achievements of these negotiations offer grounds for optimism that a positive and durable outcome is within reach,” he said.

Recall that in spite of the initial optimism last weekend that an agreement might be close, the two sides have since traded strikes.

City Boy Movement denies links with alleged US-convicted Nigerian

The City Boy Movement has dissociated itself from Mr. Adepoju Babatunde Salako following reports linking him to the socio-political organisation over an alleged fraud conviction in the United States.

The group described claims associating Salako with the movement as false, misleading, and politically motivated, insisting that he has never been a member or official of the organisation at any level.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the movement, Mohammed Abdullahi, the organisation said it became necessary to clarify its position following what it called deliberate attempts to connect Salako with the group in connection with criminal proceedings reportedly instituted against him in the United States.

According to the statement, Salako neither belonged to the movement nor occupied any leadership role within its structure.

“Mr. Adepoju Babatunde Salako is not a member of the City Boy Movement and has never held any office, appointment, or official position whatsoever within the structure of the Movement at the national, zonal, state, diaspora, or international level,” the statement said.

The organisation further stressed that Salako was never authorised to function as a coordinator, spokesperson, mobilisation officer, or representative of the movement in the United States or anywhere else.

“The City Boy Movement completely dissociates itself from the said individual and from every publication, insinuation, or narrative attempting to create a false relationship between him and the Movement,” the statement added.

The group alleged that the attempt to associate Salako with the organisation was part of a wider effort aimed at discrediting support groups aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling political bloc.

It noted that earlier media reports surrounding the alleged fraud case and conviction did not mention the City Boy Movement, questioning what it described as the sudden emergence of narratives linking the individual to the organisation.

The movement also pointed to separate reports which allegedly identified Salako as a coordinator of another pro-Tinubu platform known as “Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria,” arguing that such conflicting claims exposed attempts at indiscriminate political attribution.

While emphasizing that it was not seeking to interfere in any legal matter involving Salako, the organisation maintained that every citizen deserved fair hearing and due process under the law.

However, it insisted that it would not accept efforts to falsely associate the movement with individuals who have no connection to its activities.

“The City Boy Movement cannot and will not accept false attribution, reputational manipulation, or deliberate attempts to create artificial relationships where none exist,” the statement stated.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to youth mobilisation, democratic participation, and national development, describing itself as a disciplined and lawful organisation operating within the ideals of President Tinubu’s political vision.

It subsequently urged members of the public and media organisations to disregard any report linking Adepoju Salako to the City Boy Movement in any capacity.

Tinubu Begs Nigerians For More Patience In 3rd Anniversary Address

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to remain hopeful and continue supporting his administration’s policies despite persistent economic hardship across the country.

Tinubu made the appeal on Thursday in a statement commemorating the third anniversary of his administration.

He acknowledged the pressure caused by his administration’s policies and the hardship citizens have endured in the past three years.

“These decisions came with sacrifice. The rising cost of living triggered by our measures placed enormous pressure on families, workers, and businesses. Young people searching for jobs felt discouraged. Many questioned whether these difficult decisions would lead to a better future,” he said.

Tinubu, however, insisted that the sacrifices made by citizens would eventually produce lasting benefits for the country.

“I remain deeply conscious of those sacrifices, and I assure you: your sacrifice has not been in vain. And today, I can say with confidence that Nigeria has stabilised and is moving forward again,” he stated.

The president admitted that his administration had not solved all of the country’s problems but argued that the groundwork for economic recovery had been established.

“We have not solved every problem, and we are not yet where we want to be. But the foundation for recovery has been laid,” he stated.

He said his government would continue efforts to reduce food prices, lower transportation costs and create more jobs for Nigerians.

“We shall achieve this task by continuing to ensure that food prices, which have largely come down from their peak in 2023/2024, remain low,” he said.

“We are also working to reduce transportation costs as operators of commercial trucks, buses, and taxis convert their petrol engines to CNG and switch to electric vehicles. We have also set our sights on creating more opportunities for decent work and enabling enterprise expansion.”

Tinubu further urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country despite prevailing frustrations and divisions.

“The work ahead is enormous, but I remain optimistic because I believe deeply in this country and in you, the Nigerian people.

“I ask you to keep faith with Nigeria. Let us reject cynicism and division. Let us move forward together, united in purpose, disciplined in effort, compassionate toward one another, and confident in the greatness that lies ahead.

“History tests nations before it elevates them. Nigeria is passing through such a test. But I believe with all my heart that we shall emerge stronger, fairer, more united, and more prosperous than ever before,” he stated.

Tinubu also called for national unity, saying every Nigerian must feel included regardless of region, religion or background.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us—no region, faith, or group should feel marginalised or forgotten. Our diversity is a source of strength. Whether Christian or Muslim, North or South, urban or rural, we rise or fall together as one nation under God,” he said.

Tinubu recently secured the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to seek a second term in the 2027 general election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
