The National Union of Teachers, NUT, in Oyo State have staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan, following the recent abduction of students and teachers from schools in Oriire.

Kidnappers had on May 15, invaded Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting over 40 students and teachers.

The daredevil terrorists have been releasing disturbing footage of how their victims are being punished in the forest.

After nearly three weeks in captivity, primary and secondary school teachers in the state stormed the streets to demand urgent action from relevant authorities.

The protesters, who converged in Iwo Road, Ibadan, were heard chanting solidarity songs and demanding their colleagues and the school children, “bring back our children, no more bandits” amongst others.

Adamawa APC women decry exclusion of female candidates from House of Assembly contest

Leaders of the Adamawa Women in Politics, National Council of Women Societies, and the Special Reserved Seats for Women groups have accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of excluding women from candidates for the State House of Assembly.

The women leaders, briefing newsmen in Yola, said the exclusion of six women who contested for the assembly seats from various constituencies is unacceptable.

The Coordinator of Adamawa State Women in Politics, Comfort Ibrahim, expressed dismay over the outcome of the APC primary for the assembly, lamenting that no woman is among them, which signals a worse situation than the current Assembly that has one woman as member.

“We have one female lawmaker at the assembly now and hoped for more women but the reverse is the case as no single woman emerged as a candidate among those who contested in the APC primary,” Comfort Ibrahim said.

According to her, the development is a sad setback to the collective aspirations for inclusive governance, democratic fairness, and gender balance representation.

She added that the absence of female candidates raises concerns about the commitment of democracy to gender equity, fairness, and the democratic principle of equal representation, as the interests of women may not adequately be represented in legislative deliberations.

DAILY POST reports doubt hangs around the Adamawa State House of Assembly primary of the APC, as results have not been officially released till date.

Efforts to get the APC to give an update on the primary has repeatedly failed to yield any result, but the women groups insist they know there is no woman among those to be announced as the candidates.

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has 25 members, meaning that the APC, like all participating parties, is expected to have a maximum of 25 House of Assembly candidates for the general election.

2027 polls: Samson Nnamani dismisses factionalization claims after winning PDP guber ticket

Amid the multiple primary elections held by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Chief Samson Nnamani has declared that he is the authentic governorship candidate of the party.

DAILY POST recalls that two other primary elections had produced Chief Uche Nnaji and Chief Dona Nwogbo at different venues in the state.

However, addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Enugu Press Centre, Nnamani said he was validly elected on Sunday 24th May 2026.

Speaking through Dr. Buchi Nnaji, Media Director and Spokesperson of Chief Sampson Chukwu Nnamani, he said there was no faction in the PDP, adding that the Supreme Court had since laid the matter to rest.

Nnanami also dismissed his purported suspension by another faction of the party, describing it as an action driven by desperation.

“You said you suspended somebody, and on the day you conducted what you called, primary, where you did your kangaroo election, you recognized the same person you suspended and counted votes for him.

“Samson Nnamani went for primaries. He is the only person that you can say participated actively in mobilizing PDP members for primary elections.

“We have the records in all the 17 local governments. The other people were afraid of facing the election. That was why they started coming up with these fraudulent ways.

“Most of the things we hear are rumours. So be properly guided, please. Let us put PDP together. These people are trying to silence the opposition, and we will not accept that. PDP is strong.

“The primary election that brought Samson Nnamani to be the flagbearer was duly supervised by officials sent from Abuja and the INEC, and members of the electoral panel declared him winner,” he stated.

Nnamani then said the PDP administration if voted into power would review and remove policies and practices that were truncating the wellbeing, economic survival, and social advancement of the citizens.

  • Anyone thinking of planning coup wasting time – Defence Minister, Musa reveals

Anyone thinking of planning coup wasting time – Defence Minister, Musa reveals

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has warned that anyone planning a coup in Nigeria is “wasting their time,” insisting that Nigerians would resist any attempt to overthrow democratic rule.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Musa said democracy remained far better than military rule and stressed that the Armed Forces were committed to protecting the country’s democratic system.

The minister, who spoke about a past coup investigation in which he was involved, said he and other senior officers were among those who uncovered and reported the coup plot, adding that he also chaired the investigative committee that handled the matter.

Musa described those involved in the alleged coup plot as “confused individuals” who misled junior officers into participating in the act.

The defence minister also stated that members of the Armed Forces had been well catered for, noting that there had been no issues with salaries while efforts were ongoing to improve allowances and provide more equipment for troops fighting insecurity.

Musa maintained that any attempt to stage a coup would fail, saying even civilians would resist such actions.

He said: “So I was let go, and five weeks later I’m back to show you that, yes, it wasn’t that because I was involved in anything, and far from it. We were the ones who actually identified the coup. We were the ones who reported it. I was one who convened the committee that did the investigation. We did all this together.

“What we are trying to do now is to show the junior ones that a coup doesn’t pay anything, democracy is far, far better than any military regime, and so there’s an opportunity.

“I just looked at the people that were involved in that, I shook my head because they are just a bunch of confused individuals that exposed very junior officers that didn’t know their left from right, and that put them into this mess. It’s quite unfortunate.

“We always feel bad when we see our colleagues derailing, but the good thing is that the system has a way of going about it.

“The investigation was very thorough. The prosecution is now ongoing and the court-martial will go as planned.

“We’re giving them all the benefits to defend themselves. But the facts on the ground are very, very clear, and I can tell you that we’re following all the processes. Nothing is hidden.

“It’s quite unfortunate what they did. They had no reason to do that. The country was going very well. The armed forces have been taken care of quite very well. We’ve never had issues with our salaries. Efforts have been made to even increase our salaries and our allowances. Our troops are doing quite very well. We’re getting more equipment to fight.

“And make sure this, anybody who is thinking of planning a coup, I think he’s just wasting their time. Even the civilians in Nigeria will have taken them down. So, I think it was just foolhardy for them to have tried what they wanted to do.”

The excitement of getting gifts. The freedom of dancing without care. The happiness that came from laughing with friends and family. For many Nigerians, those memories still hold a special place. But somewhere between growing up and navigating everyday responsibilities, moments like these became fewer and farther between.

Maltina set out to bring that feeling back.

As part of its “Nourishment Fit For You” platform, the brand created experiences designed to reconnect Nigerians with joy, wonder, togetherness, and the childlike happiness that often gets lost in everyday life.

These lively performances transformed public spaces into scenes of joy and excitement, drawing in hundreds of spectators and creating unforgettable real-time moments. Audiences were captivated by the creativity and energy of the performances, turning ordinary moments into shared experiences of happiness.

The excitement did not stop there. Maltina also expanded the gifting experience beyond Lagos to cities like Enugu, Port Harcourt, and Abeokuta, nourishing more than 5,000 consumers in one day.
