A suit challenging the creation of the Fufore Emirate in Adamawa State has been taken to the Court of Appeal after a High Court dismissed it.
The Fufore Emirate was carved out of the most prominent emirate in Adamawa State, the Adamawa Emirate, in December 2024, after which three traditional title holders of the Adamawa Emirate went to court challenging the creation of the new emirate.
A High Court in Yola had ruled in March this year that the emirate was created in accordance with legal procedure; however, the dissatisfied plaintiffs have now taken their legal battle to the Yola Division of the Court of Appeal, restating their demands.
The appellants — Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed, Alhaji Mustapha Dahiru Mustapha and Alhaji Mustapha Ahmadu — filed their Notice of Appeal on Tuesday, seeking to overturn the judgment delivered by Justice Musa Usman of the Adamawa State High Court on March 3, 2026.
The suit at issue not only challenges the creation of the Fufore Emirate but also the appointment of Alhaji Mohammed Sani Ahmadu Ribadu as the Emir, citing procedural deficiencies.
They now argue before the appellate court that the trial court erred in law by declaring their suit incompetent for failure to serve a pre-action notice, despite the urgency of the matter.
The appellants also faulted the lower court’s decision on locus standi, insisting that as senior traditional title holders within the Adamawa Emirate, they have direct interests in matters affecting the integrity of the emirate.
Specifically, in their appeal, the traditional title holders are seeking the nullification of Adamawa State Legal Notice No. 56 of 2024 issued on December 20, 2024, which created the Fufore Emirate.
They are also asking the court to invalidate the inauguration of the Fufore Emirate and its Emirate Council, and to restrain the Fufore Emir from presenting himself as the Emir.

Teachers in Lagos State on Tuesday staged a protest to demand the rescue of pupils, students and teachers abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, raising concerns over the safety of schools across the country.
The demonstration, organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), followed a directive from the union’s national leadership for simultaneous protests in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory against the increasing cases of kidnappings and attacks targeting schools and education workers.
Hundreds of teachers marched from Ikeja to the Lagos State House of Assembly, carrying placards and banners with messages calling for enhanced security in schools and swift action to rescue the abducted victims.
Addressing the protesters, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, described the establishment of state police as a viable solution to Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
Obasa said the Assembly shared the concerns of the teachers, particularly over the recent abduction in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, stressing that all stakeholders must work together to address insecurity.
“We are all concerned about the situation, particularly the one that happened in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Here at the Lagos State House of Assembly, we have been doing our best to ensure security. That is why this House has, several times, been at the forefront of state police,” he said.
The Speaker noted that recent comments by President Bola Tinubu on state policing underscored the growing recognition of its importance in tackling security threats.
“Recently, we read about the position of President Bola Tinubu on state police. This further confirms that it is both necessary and important for this country to have state police. It is not about protesting alone; we all need to come together to find lasting solutions,” Obasa added.
He also urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing useful information and intelligence, stressing that ensuring public safety should not be left solely to government institutions.
Earlier, Lagos State NUT Chairman, Akintoye Hassan, said the protest was not solely in response to the recent abductions in Oyo State but reflected longstanding concerns over repeated attacks on schools and education workers nationwide.
According to him, teachers have continued to face threats and insecurity for years, recalling major incidents such as the Chibok and Dapchi school abductions.
“Our effort is not even about the recent Oyo incident. It dates back to 2014 when we had the Chibok and Dapchi incidents. Teachers of Nigeria not only teach knowledge; we teach values. Part of the values we teach are resilience, endurance and tolerance,” Hassan said.
He called on Nigerians to stop politicising insecurity and instead treat it as a national challenge that affects every sector of society, including education.
THE WHISTLER reports that popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, alongside several civil society groups and activists, last week criticised Tinubu over the continued captivity of scores of abducted schoolchildren across the country.
In a statement issued following the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, the activists said at least 81 Nigerian children remain in captivity after being abducted by terrorists in Oyo and Borno states.
According to the statement, 39 pupils and seven teachers were abducted from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esinele, and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The group added that one of the abducted teachers, identified as Mr. Oyedokun Olugbade, was recently killed by his captors.
The statement further noted that another 42 children were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, during an attack on Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

Human rights activist and founder of Behind Bars Human Rights and Safe City Volunteer Foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, has raised alarm after receiving an invitation from the Delta State Police Command over allegations of conspiracy, attempted murder, incitement to engage in terrorism, communal war and obstruction.
A police invitation letter dated June 1, 2026, indicated that the command was investigating a case involving “conspiracy, attempted murder, incitement to engage in terrorism, communal war and obstruction.”
The letter directed Gwamnishu to report to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department through the Officer-in-Charge of Homicide at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, on June 4.
The activist reacted to the invitation on Monday through a post on his Facebook page, expressing surprise over the allegations.
“I returned from court for Oghenemine’s case, and the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command, sent me a Happy New Letter,” Gwamnishu wrote.
“Case of Attempted Murder, incitement to engage in Terrorism.
“I wish to inform everyone that Delta State Police Command have nothing on me and they have been planning massively against me.”
Gwamnishu’s comments come amid his sustained criticism of alleged police misconduct and his advocacy on issues relating to insecurity, kidnappings and human rights abuses in Delta State.
In a separate Facebook video which he said was recorded on May 25, days before receiving the invitation, the activist claimed that he had been warned by several individuals about alleged plans to frame him.
According to him, he had become increasingly concerned after repeatedly receiving information suggesting that unnamed persons were working to implicate him in criminal activities.
The activist insisted that his involvement in the case of one Oghenemine, which he referenced in his post, was solely to draw public attention to what he described as police brutality.
“I only posted Oghenemine’s case for public awareness to end police brutality. That when a suspect is arrested, you don’t kill a suspect. When the suspect is already cooperating with you, why kill him?” he said.
He maintained that his advocacy work had never been intended to undermine law enforcement agencies, stressing that his actions were aimed at supporting efforts to improve public safety and accountability.
“I am not taking the work of the police or the military. I am only assisting,” he said.
Gwamnishu further explained that his interventions often involved sharing information with government officials and security stakeholders in a bid to address security concerns across the state.
According to him, he has consistently provided information to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and senior government officials on matters affecting public safety.
The activist, however, expressed fears that he could be falsely implicated in a criminal case, insisting that he had no connection to any violent or unlawful activity.
“Tomorrow, they can see me on the road and say I own a gun. Not true. I don’t own a gun. There is a plan on grounds against me,” he said.
He appealed directly to Governor Oborevwori to grant him an audience and hear his concerns regarding what he described as attempts to target him because of his activism.
He maintained that he is innocent of the allegations and that his activities have been focused on promoting justice, exposing abuses and assisting authorities in addressing security challenges across Delta State.

INEC Statement
INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION
RE: ALLEGED MISUSE OF AUTHORISED ACCESS CREDENTIALS AND UNAUTHORISED DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION FROM THE COMMISSION’S CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION (CVR) DATABASE
The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to allegations currently circulating on social media and in some sections of the media regarding the alleged unauthorised access to the Commission’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database and the subsequent publication of information on a candidate in the recent primaries of a political party in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Commission takes this allegation seriously and has immediately commenced a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
As part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, authorised INEC Registration Officers were granted controlled access to specific components of the CVR system to enable them register new applicants, process requests for transfer of registration and update voter records where necessary. Such access is restricted to official duties only and is withdrawn at the conclusion of the exercise.
The audit trail from the preliminary investigation has enabled the Commission to identify the user account through which the information was accessed. Accordingly, relevant personnel have been questioned, and all units connected with the incident are cooperating fully with the investigation.
The Commission is also examining all technical, administrative and operational factors associated with the matter in order to establish individual responsibility and determine the circumstances surrounding the use of those credentials and identify any breach of internal access-control protocols before taking appropriate action against anyone involved.
Preliminary findings from the Commission’s audit trail so far, however, indicate that there was no external breach of the CVR database, no hacking incident, and no unauthorised external access to the Commission’s ICT infrastructure. Rather, the information in question was accessed through valid user credentials assigned to personnel participating in the ongoing CVR exercise but released without authority.
The incident under investigation relates to the retrieval of a specific voter record and does not indicate any compromise of the Commission’s broader voter registration infrastructure or the personal data of over 90 million registered voters.
The Commission wishes to state categorically that it takes the security, confidentiality and integrity of voter data with the utmost seriousness and remains committed to transparency, institutional integrity, and the protection of voters’ personal information.
Furthermore, the Department of State Services (DSS), on its own accord, has commenced an independent investigation into the matter. The Commission will continue to cooperate fully with all relevant security agencies and will not hesitate to refer any person found culpable for appropriate legal action.
Members of the public and the media are therefore urged to disregard unfounded speculations while investigations remain ongoing. The Commission will continue to keep the public informed of its final findings and any measures taken in response to the incident in due course.
