Transfer: Galatasaray told to sell Victor Osimhen

Former Turkish referee, Ahmed Çakar, has advised Galatasaray to sell their top striker, Victor Osimhen, if they receive an offer of 130 million Euros for his signature.

Çakar believes the Turkish Super Lig champion would make a profit because they bought the Nigerian international for 75 million Euros from Napoli.

Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move away from Galatasaray this summer.

The 27-year-old recently dismissed reports of him leaving Galatasaray this summer amid links from Chelsea, Man United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Speaking about Osimhen’s future on the Libero TV YouTube channel, as per Habersarikirmizi, Çakar said, “There is no football player in the world who cannot be sold. Osimhen cost Galatasaray around 75 million Euros.

“If they sell him for 90 or 100 million Euros, I would say, ‘You made a mistake.’ I would say ‘You’re fools if you’re offered 130 million Euros and don’t sell him.’ Because you make a profit, and you also get to use him for a year after acquiring his transfer rights. Then it’s fine.”

Argentina head coach, Lionel Scaloni, has named ten favourite countries that can win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Spain, France, Portugal, England, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Morocco… I don’t even know how many I named, I’m already forgetting one, Croatia,” he said.

  • Alleged N2.8bn Fraud: Court Defers Ruling On Sirika Trial Bid

Alleged N2.8bn Fraud: Court Defers Ruling On Sirika Trial Bid

The Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja has deferred its ruling on a motion seeking to discontinue the trial of former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika to the day of final judgement, in line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

Justice S.C. Oriji made the order on Tuesday after hearing arguments from counsel on both sides, ruling that the issues raised in the motion were so closely tied to the determination of the charge itself that judicial prudence required they be addressed together at judgement.

“This motion is not challenging the validity of the charge. However, the issues and prayers in this application are inextricably tied or connected to the determination of the charge.

Therefore, in my view, judicial prudence dictates that it is better to deliver the ruling on the motion along with the judgement on the charge after the trial and I so direct,” the judge said.

The motion was brought by Sanusi Musa SAN, counsel to the third defendant Hamma Jalal Sule, who urged the court to stop the prosecution from presenting further evidence, expunge all evidence and exhibits already tendered and dismiss the charge entirely, arguing the case was filed on the basis of an incomplete investigation.

The prosecution team, led by Rotimi Jacobs SAN, countered the application by citing Section 379 Sub-section 2 of the ACJA 2015, which permits additional evidence and exhibits to be filed at any time before judgement is given, and cited several decisions of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in support of that position.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Sirika alongside his daughter Fatima Hadi Sirika and son-in-law Hamma Jalal Sule on an amended six-count charge bordering on contract fraud.

The alleged offences involve Al Buraq Global Investment Limited, a company linked to the former minister’s daughter, to the tune of N2,825,032,220.97.

The case suffered a significant setback for the prosecution in April, when Justice Oriji rejected key exhibits tendered by the EFCC, including the extra-judicial statements made by Fatima Sirika and her husband at the Commission’s office.

The judge ruled the statements inadmissible, holding that the EFCC had failed to comply with Section 15(4) of the ACJA 2015 when obtaining them.

It was immediately following that ruling that the defence filed the present motion seeking to discontinue the trial entirely.

Sirika, who served as Minister of Aviation under former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2015 and 2023, has consistently denied all wrongdoing.

He was arraigned alongside his co-defendants in May 2024 and has described the prosecution as politically motivated.

In April this year, he formally declared his intention to contest the Katsina North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, signalling his intention to return to frontline politics despite the ongoing trial.

The matter was adjourned to June 10 for continuation of trial.

Nasarawa: Poor waste management fuels pollution, disease outbreaks — NASWAMSA, DPI

The Director-General of the Nasarawa State Waste Management and Sanitation Authority, NASWAMSA, Hon. Dr. Mohammed Bello Isa, has highlighted the dangers inherent in indiscriminate dumping of wastes across the country.

Isa, represented by Director of Waste Management, NASWAMSA, stated this at the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP backed Nasarawa State Community Cleanup and Environmental Sensitization Exercise, organised by Digital Peers International on Tuesday.

He noted that environmental cleanliness is directly linked to the health, safety, and economic wellbeing of communities, adding that poor waste disposal practices contribute significantly to environmental degradation, flooding, air and water pollution, vector-borne diseases, and other public health challenges.

According to him, “Every improperly disposed waste item has the potential to become a source of disease, environmental nuisance, and economic loss.

“The challenge of waste management cannot be left to government alone. Environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility. Every household, business owner, institution, market association, community leader, and citizen has a role to play.”

He said that citizens must embrace the principles of waste reduction, proper waste segregation, recycling and resource recovery, responsible disposal practices, and community participation in sanitation activities.

“Let us remember that a clean environment is not only a reflection of responsible citizenship but also an investment in the health and future of generations yet unborn,” he added.”

Speaking, a retired Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Chief Executive Officer, DPI, Dr. Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, said that environmental sustainability, responsible plastic use, cleaner communities, and youth-driven solutions to plastic pollution must be promoted within Nasarawa State and beyond.

The also harped on the need to build awareness, promote behavioral change, encourage innovation in plastic waste management, supporte green enterprises, and creation of sustainable opportunities for young people within the plastic value chain..

GBV: Akwa Ibom jails 99 rapists in five years

A total of 99 rapists have been thrown behind bars in Akwa Ibom State from 2020 to 2025 following the passage of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in the state.

Director, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Department and Secretary, Akwa Ibom State GBV Management Committee, Barr. Emem Ette, disclosed this at a press briefing to kick off the 2026 GBV Awareness Month in the state, tagged, “Let’s End Gender-Based Violence Together.”

Ette said the state secured 102 convictions within the period — 99 rape convictions and three convictions for spousal battery.

Ette, while noting the reduction in incidents of GBV cases in previous months, regretted the spike recorded in May, especially child rape cases, adding that the Committee collaborates with relevant stakeholders, including traditional rulers, to tackle gender-based violence in communities. She added that traditional rulers have been trained on GBV response protocols and how to avoid harmful customary settlements that undermine justice.

She also advocated life imprisonment for rape offenders to serve as a deterrent, even as she noted that such long incarceration could provide room for rehabilitation and behavioural change where necessary, citing instances where convicts exhibit good behaviour while awaiting trial.

“We’ve noticed another little spike in GBV, especially rape involving children. All of us should come together to fight these issues of gender violence. Out of all those cases, we have secured 102 convictions so far. Of that number, three were for spousal battery, while 99 were for rape,” she said.

On efforts by the Committee to create awareness and reduce incidents of GBV across communities, the Secretary stated that they have visited 15 villages to constitute by-law committees that would develop regulations aligned with their peculiar cultural realities while remaining consistent with existing legal frameworks.

She revealed that, apart from setting up by-laws, the Committee trains paralegals who are attached to village councils to enable them mediate minor cases, with the aim of ensuring appropriate sanctions for offenders. She stressed that serious offences such as rape are always referred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

She, therefore, urged communities to embrace the laws and use them as a guide in all their dealings.

Flagging off the GBV Awareness Month, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, said the 2026 theme, “Implementing the Akwa Ibom State VAPP Law: From Awareness to Action,” was a reminder that the state has moved beyond sensitization to implementation.

While recounting some of the challenges hindering the implementation of the VAPP Law, such as cultural barriers and family pressure, the Attorney General warned that the termination of prosecutions or out-of-court settlements would never be considered in situations where a man or woman’s ribs are broken, a child is defiled, or a wife is battered unconscious.

Udom called on judges to be cautious in exercising their discretion, especially in granting bail in severe GBV cases, saying that granting bail to perpetrators of extreme acts of GBV could expose victims to further harm.

The Attorney General also encouraged GBV victims to speak up and report incidents, assuring them that the state government has put measures in place not only to prosecute their abusers but also to provide them with safe shelter.

“To our judges and magistrates, I appeal to you. The law gives you discretion. Use it to protect survivors. When a GBV offender seeks bail, ask yourself: Will this person return to intimidate the victim? Will the survivor feel safe to testify? If the answer is no, let your decision reflect the reality on the ground, not just the textbook,” he appealed.
