Some Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool players have reacted after both sides’ UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg encounter.

PSG defeated Liverpool 2-0 in the fixture at Anfield, England, on Tuesday night.

Ousmane Dembele scored the two goals of the encounter to send the Parisians to the Champions League semi-final stage.

The outcome of the match means the French Ligue 1 champions progress to the next stage on a 4-0 aggregate win, having won 2-0 in the first leg last week in Paris.

Reacting, PSG forward Ousmane Dembele told Prime Video: “We’re so happy that we were able to win this game because it was really difficult, especially the second half.

“But we found a way to win, and we’re through to the semi-finals, and we are delighted. I think we are at the same level [as last season]. We have this desire to win trophies – we will try to go all the way to the end, we will play our game until the end of the competition.”

On his part, PSG captain Marquinhos told Canal+: “Liverpool used their strengths, but we were solid. Then we finally scored. You have to know how to do that and be strong when things get tough. We knew we weren’t qualified after the first leg, so the mentality was to win.”

Similarly, PSG goalkeeper, Matvei Safonov, said: “We’re certainly very happy. It was a really tough match. We’re glad we managed to win in the end. We showed that we came here to win, which is important. It’s very emotional to be in the semi-finals. It’s a wonderful feeling.”

On his part, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate said, “We have to be happy because many players came back from injury, like [Alexander] Isak.

“PSG is a little bit better than last season, and to make a performance like that against them… We lost, but we have to build from that and realise how good we can be.”

A coroner’s court in Lagos State has postponed the inquest into the death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege, the son of renowned author Chimamanda Adichie, after the involved parties did not file or exchange their witness statements as previously ordered.

Magistrate Atinuke Adetunji halted proceedings on Tuesday at the JIC Taylor Courthouse in Igbosere. The session had been scheduled for Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital to begin presenting its case by calling witnesses. However, the hearing could not proceed because none of the parties complied with the court’s earlier directive issued following an agreement on February 25, 2026 to frontload witness statements.

Expressing her dissatisfaction, the coroner noted that the non-compliance had stalled the process and prevented the court from hearing evidence as planned.

“This matter was slated for evidence, but none of the parties has complied with the directive of this court to file and exchange witnesses’ statements on oath,” Adetunji said.

Euracare’s lead counsel, Prof Taiwo Osipitan (SAN), appearing for the first time in the case, informed the court that there was no clear order specifying which party should file its statements first.

“My Lord, there was no specific order as to who should file first,” he submitted.

He also indicated that the hospital planned to file an application for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death, along with an order requiring the deceased’s parents — Dr Ivara Esege and Chimamanda Adichie-Esege to release the child’s medical records.

“We intend to bring an application for a postmortem examination and for the release of the deceased’s medical records, in the interest of fair hearing, before the hospital opens its case,” he added.

The coroner rejected the request, pointing out that the issue of an autopsy had already been addressed in an earlier sitting. The court had ruled that the inquest could continue without one.

“The issue of a postmortem has been considered by this court, and the law permits this inquest to proceed without the same,” the magistrate stated.

She further noted that Euracare’s counsel had access to the records of previous proceedings and could obtain additional information through proper legal channels, such as subpoenas, without causing further delays.

“The counsel has access to the records of proceedings and may apply for any further information by way of subpoena or other lawful means without stalling this process,” she said.

The coroner emphasized that the proceedings must move forward without unnecessary delays, describing the inquest as inquisitorial rather than adversarial.

“This court will not allow the proceedings to be stalled. The inquest is inquisitorial and not adversarial, and it is aimed at ascertaining the truth, helping the family heal, and preventing a recurrence,” she held.

Counsel for the Esege family, Prof Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), and the lawyer for Atlantis Paediatric Hospital, Mr Adeniyi Kazeem (SAN), assured the court that their witness statements were ready and would be filed without delay.

Counsel for the Lagos State Government, Adebola Araba, stated that the need for expert witnesses would depend on the evidence presented during the inquest.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to May 5, May 20, and June 3, 2026, for further hearing.

Nkanu Adichie-Esege was admitted to Euracare Hospital on January 6, 2026, after being referred from Atlantis Paediatric Hospital for urgent medical care.

He died in the early hours of January 7, 2026. Following the incident, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria established a prima facie case of medical negligence against three doctors: Dr Tosin Majekodunmi, Medical Director of Euracare, Dr Titus Ogundare, an anaesthesiologist at the hospital and Dr Atinuke Uwajeh, Chief Medical Director of Atlantis Paediatric Hospital.

Plateau State House of Assembly, in conjunction with key stakeholders in the state, has initiated measures to protect the inheritance rights of women and girls in the state.

During a public hearing held at the Assembly complex in Jos on Tuesday, April 14, participants drawn from the government, judiciary, security agencies, female advocacy groups, traditional institutions, and civil society organizations, threw their weight behind a proposed law seeking to protect the rights of women and girls to inherit lands and properties from parents as against the normal practice where only male children have the right of inheritance.

Participants at the meeting described the proposed bill as timely, transformative, and critical to ending decades of gender-based discrimination.

The public hearing, which was organized by the Assembly, highlighted the bill aimed at regulating and protecting the rights of women and girls to inherit properties, benefits, and privileges from deceased husbands and parents.

While addressing the audience, Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary Matters, Hon. Kalamu Idris Gyang, and Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Sylvester Wallangko, agreed that submission by stakeholders in support of the bill, along with recommendations for strengthening its provisions showed a positive response to the proposal.

Hon. Gyang who further emphasized the urgency of the legislation, noted that cultural practices have long deprived women of inheritance rights and the acceptance of the proposed bill has gone in the right direction.

“This bill is for the people of Plateau State. We are very determined to make sure that this bill sees the light of day,” Gyang said.

“Women contribute significantly to family wealth and development, yet traditions deprive them of inheritance. This law will correct that imbalance and promote societal growth,” he added.

On his part, Hon. Wallangko described the bill as a solution to long-standing societal issues that had caused bad blood in families across the state.

“This particular bill will solve a lot of issues that have bedevilled our society; by the time it is enacted, it will be binding on all of us,” Wallangko noted.

Also speaking, Special Adviser on Social Welfare to the Governor, Esther Simi Dusu, described the bill as a pathway to emancipation and empowerment of women.

“This bill is a form of emancipation. It will enable women to access opportunities and express their God-given potential.

“This is one of the best laws we have ever seen. It will address imbalances and injustice and is already aligned with national policy on women’s property ownership.

“The proposed law which has been widely supported across different sectors, is expected to mark a significant turning point in addressing gender inequality in inheritance practices and strengthening social justice in Plateau State,” she added.

Utomi made this statement on Tuesday during an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television.

The Deputy Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Manifesto and Policy Committee, also stated that in all political parties, there will be the good, bad and ugly.

He added that they are willing tools that can be used by outside forces.

Utomi, who called for urgent efforts to save the country, warned that attitudes of some politicians were eroding public confidence.

“There are some unseen hands trying to disrupt the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

“The consistent outcome of this longitudinal data is that African people want democracy, but the people getting into power in Africa are preventing democracy from really taking place, and the people are losing hope in democracy. We must save our country from that,” he urged.
