Police Arrest Tiktoker For Raising False Kidnapping Alarm In Edo State

The Edo State Police Command has arrested social media influencer Uzebor Emmanuel, popularly known as “Aza Woman,” over viral posts alleging that about six people were kidnapped through mini transport buses in the Aduwawa and Ikpoba Hill areas of Benin City.

According to a statement issued by the command, the suspect allegedly claimed on social media that several victims were abd¥cted, with some reportedly escaping from their captors while others regained their freedom after paying ransom.

Police said preliminary investigations found the claims to be false and misleading. The command noted that the publications generated widespread fear and anxiety among residents and had the potential to undermine public confidence in the state’s security architecture.

The police stressed that deliberately spreading false information, especially on matters relating to public safety and security, is a serious offence with far-reaching consequences.

The command warned that such actions could incite panic, disrupt public order, and divert security resources from genuine emergencies.

“The security of a state should never be jeopardized for views, engagement, online relevance, or any other form of social media gratification,” the statement said.

The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while the police urged members of the public to verify information from credible sources before sharing and to avoid spreading unverified reports capable of disturbing public peace and order.

  • ADC Courts Gawuna For 2027 Kano Governorship Race

ADC Courts Gawuna For 2027 Kano Governorship Race

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is making moves to recruit former Kano State governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, ahead of the 2027 elections, with reports indicating that the party has offered him its governorship ticket and campaign support.

Sources familiar with the discussions said influential figures within the party have been engaging Gawuna’s political allies in a bid to convince him to join the ADC and contest the Kano governorship election on its platform.

According to the sources, the party has offered political concessions to members of Gawuna’s camp, including opportunities for State House of Assembly and House of Representatives tickets for some of his loyalists.

The ADC is also said to have assured the former deputy governor of substantial financial backing for his campaign if he accepts the offer.

Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and former ambassador, Faruk Yabo, are reportedly among key political figures leading the efforts to bring Gawuna into the party.

Although Gawuna has consistently expressed loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya political movement, insiders said the ADC’s sustained outreach and political incentives have sparked fresh discussions within his camp.

Sources further disclosed that the party has yet to announce a winner in its Kano governorship primary contest involving Ibrahim Khalil and Ibrahim Little as it seeks to conclude negotiations with Gawuna.

Party insiders believe the former APC governorship candidate would significantly strengthen the ADC’s chances of mounting a strong challenge in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gawuna, who served as deputy governor of Kano State and flew the flag of the APC in the 2023 governorship election, remains a major political figure with considerable grassroots support across the state.

Political analysts say his entry into the ADC could reshape the political landscape in Kano and intensify competition ahead of the next governorship race.

Neither Gawuna nor ADC officials had publicly commented on the reported talks as of the time of filing this report.
