The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, DCTDA, has secured the conviction of 17 offenders

The 18 persons and corporate bodies were arraigned before a competent court over various environmental offences, while one defendant was discharged.

Some of the convicted offenders include Otutu Resources, Nnebisi Road, for operating in a dirty environment and trading on the setback; Martins I.C., for dirty premises and trading on setbacks; Turner Bakery, for non-compliance with environmental requirements; and the Landlord/Occupier of Silver House, for discharging obnoxious wastewater into public drains.

The action, initiated by the Director General of the Agency, Patrick Ukah, warned that more offenders would be prosecuted as the agency intensifies efforts to rid the capital territory of environmental infractions.

The step, he said, was part of ongoing efforts to enforce environmental laws and ensure a cleaner and more orderly capital territory.

The DG promised to sustain the enforcement exercise, adding that the era of disregard for environmental laws was over.

According to him, there would be no mercy for persons or organisations found violating environmental regulations, stressing that all offenders would be made to face the full weight of the law until the Capital Territory is clean.

He said the agency remained committed to ensuring compliance with sanitation standards and urban regulations, urging residents, traders and business operators to maintain clean premises and comply with all environmental requirements to avoid prosecution.

Delta agency arraigns environmental offenders, secures 17 convictions

Sapele Local Government Council Chairman, Bright Abeke, has regained his freedom after 10 days in captivity.

The council chairman was kidnapped on April 10, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen stormed a hotel along Owumi road in Sapele. The attackers reportedly fired gunshots to disperse people before forcefully taking him to an unknown location.

During the incident, a vigilante member was said to have been shot, heightening fears and prompting an intensified security response in the area.

Abeke regained his freedom on Monday, bringing relief to his family, political allies, and residents of Sapele who had been on edge since his abduction.

Meanwhile, the Gabriel Sunano Foundation while celebrating the safe return of Abeke, called on security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and broader insecurity, emphasising the need to prevent similar incidents in Delta State and across the country.

It expressed appreciation to all individuals and institutions involved in securing his release.

In a statement following his release, the Foundation commended the coordinated efforts of security agencies, government officials, and concerned Nigerians whose actions contributed to the successful outcome.

It gave special recognition to the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives for their professionalism and commitment throughout the rescue operation.

The Foundation also lauded the Delta State Government, particularly Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for prioritizing the chairman’s safety and ensuring swift action during the crisis.

Additionally, community leaders, youth groups, and advocacy voices were acknowledged for sustaining public attention and pressure, which the Foundation noted played a significant role in the eventual release.

Delta LGA Chairman regains freedom after 10 days in captivity

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has criticised what he described as the misuse of legal processes in handling the case involving former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.

The development was disclosed in a post shared on his official page.

According to him, concerns were raised over what he termed ‘lawfare’ being deployed against El-Rufai, stressing that legal procedures should not be used as a tool for intimidation.

Sowore called on the courts to uphold the rule of law by granting bail where necessary and ensuring fair trials for all individuals.

“Bail is a constitutional right, not a tool for punishment or intimidation,” he said.

He further argued that using bail conditions to restrict individuals unjustly undermines the justice system.

Sowore added that such practices should be rejected, regardless of who is involved, emphasizing the need for fairness in the application of the law.

Kano Pillars technical adviser, Mohammed Babaganaru, has hailed his players’ determination in the win over Rivers United.

Babaganaru’s side defeated Rivers United 2-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.

The veteran tactician admitted that the encounter was tough.

“We have to be happy for the victory, but to be sincere, the game was tough,” Babaganaru told the club’s media.

“Rivers United are a very ambitious team and they did everything to force a point in the game, but we must commend my players for their determination to get the victory.

“The players should continue to believe in themselves and do so with a positive character.”

The Zamfara State Government has directed security and law enforcement agencies to intensify enforcement against traffic offenders across the state.

The directive was issued by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, while receiving a report on traffic violations and related offences in Gusau.

In a statement by the SSG’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Suleman Tudu, the move follows the constitution of a committee in February to examine the prevalence of traffic violations and recommend measures to curb rising road accidents.

The committee, chaired by DCP Salisu Bello Fago, was mandated to assess the nature of traffic-related offences and propose strategies to improve compliance with road safety regulations.

Addressing members of the committee, Nakwada decried the reckless behaviour of some road users, describing it as a serious threat to public safety.

He charged law enforcement agencies to identify, track and prosecute offenders without fear or favour, regardless of their status, while warning against extortion of citizens.

The SSG also directed relevant agencies to intensify public awareness campaigns and urged residents to comply strictly with traffic rules and regulations.

He commended the committee for its diligence and assured that the government would study its recommendations with a view to improving traffic management and ensuring safer roads.

Among the recommendations is the establishment of a joint task force comprising personnel from security and law enforcement agencies to support the Zamfara Road Traffic Court.

Meanwhile, the Road Traffic Court has convicted about 270 traffic offenders across the state in the past week.
