A Lagos-based businesswoman and former NTA staff, Ms. Olufunke Otti, has been ordered by the Lagos High Court to return a property she unlawfully acquired from her ex-husband, Chief Isaac Morakinyo Jolapamo.
Delivering judgment in suit No. LD/3034LM/2022 on March 26, 2026, Justice Olufolake Olufolashade Adewunmi-Oshin declared that the property located at 23A & B Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, rightfully belongs to Chief Jolapamo and not Ms. Otti. The court consequently ordered her to relinquish the property to him.
In addition, the court directed Ms. Otti to refund N410,347,000.00 to Chief Jolapamo, representing the outstanding balance from the proceeds of the sale of two vessels. She was also ordered to remit N63,000,000.00, being rental income collected from tenants between 2018 and 2021.
Furthermore, the court awarded N5 million in general damages against her.
Ms. Otti and Chief Jolapamo were formerly married. Their relationship began at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), where Chief Jolapamo had gone in search of spiritual and personal support during a difficult period.
Ms. Otti, a senior member of the church, was assigned to assist him, and their relationship eventually developed into a romantic one.
The couple formalized their union on February 23, 2017, at the Federal Marriage Registry in Ikoyi, Lagos. During the marriage, Chief Jolapamo entrusted his wife with significant business responsibilities, including the sale of two vessels—M.T. MOR Prosperity and M.T. Power—with instructions to use the proceeds to acquire a matrimonial home in Parkview Estate.
Ms. Otti sold the vessels for N810,347,000.00 and purchased the property as directed. However, she registered the property solely in her name without her husband’s knowledge. The situation came to light during a trip abroad when she sent him back to Nigeria and later informed him via WhatsApp that she was no longer interested in the marriage, instructing him to vacate the house.
This revelation marked the beginning of a prolonged legal dispute between the couple, who had ceased living together as husband and wife since March 2019. Their marriage was officially dissolved in April 2025.
With the court’s judgment delivered on March 26, 2026, Chief Jolapamo has now successfully reclaimed his property and financial entitlements. Copied
Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yusuf clinched the ticket unopposed following a stakeholders’ meeting held in Katsina on Tuesday, April 28, where he was unanimously adopted as the party’s consensus candidate.
The decision was announced by Alhaji Ahmed Dangiwa, Chairman of the Consensus Committee for Daura Zone and a former Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Reacting to the development, the APC Chairman in Mai’adua Local Government, Mannir Musa, called on party members to accept the outcome in good faith and remain united.
He also appealed to Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, to support aspirants who did not secure tickets, urging them to continue contributing to the development of their communities.
Musa further advised candidates who emerged through the consensus arrangement to prioritise effective representation if elected.
Other candidates adopted through the process include Nasir Yahaya for the Daura senatorial seat and Mustapha Musa for the Mai’adua constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly.
In his remarks, Yusuf Buhari expressed gratitude to party stakeholders for the confidence placed in him, pledging to deliver quality representation to his constituents if elected.
Ten Nigerian nationals have been convicted in the United States for their involvement in a large-scale transnational internet fraud scheme that defrauded victims of approximately $125 million.
The convictions were announced by the United States Attorney’s Office, which disclosed that the Nigerians were among 25 defendants found guilty of fraud and money laundering charges after a four-day trial at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
Those convicted include Oluwafemi Michael Awoyemi, Ayobami Osas Christopher, Emmanuel “Omo Igbo” Okereke, Olalekan “Ola Bash” Bashiru, Casey Adesulu Jr, Jeremiah Agina, Ademola Balogun, Olabode Bankole, Chukwuemeka Evulukwu and Ayorinde Emmanuel Adebayo.
According to prosecutors, the group operated sophisticated cyber fraud networks with links to Nigeria, targeting individuals, businesses, and organisations across multiple states in the United States and other countries.
“Their objective was to gain access to e-mail accounts held by individual users. The co-conspirators would then monitor the communications and other activities of the individual email users to learn about their business practices and contacts,” the prosecutor’s office said.
Investigators revealed that once access was obtained, the compromised accounts were used to send highly convincing fraudulent messages, deceiving victims into making payments for what appeared to be legitimate business transactions.
Authorities noted that the operation had a global reach, with victims identified in countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia.
Funds obtained from the scheme were reportedly channelled through a network of fraudulent bank accounts and transfer systems to conceal their origin and facilitate distribution among members of the syndicate.
In total, the group is said to have generated about $125 million, with roughly $50 million allegedly converted into cashier’s cheques processed through a Chicago-based money service business used to move the illicit proceeds.
In one instance cited in court, a victim company transferred $2.7 million into a shell account controlled by members of the group.
Following their arrest by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, authorities recovered nearly $1.2 million in cash, cryptocurrency, and cashier’s cheques, as well as luxury items including high-end wristwatches and a residential property in Georgia.
The convicted individuals are expected to be sentenced at a later date, with penalties to be determined based on their respective roles in the offences and any prior criminal history.

Former Edo State Governor, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government of doing everything to destroy opposition political parties in Nigeria.
Osunbor made this allegation on Friday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.
He was reacting to the activities of the APC towards the opposition political parties in the country.
The Professor of Law also took a swipe at Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu over his recent statement.
Gbajabiamila had allegedly told a House of Representatives member, Leke Ajebade, to remain in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and destroy it.
Airing his own opinion, the ex-governor said, “This government is doing everything within its power and even beyond its power to destroy opposition political parties.
“Independence of the legislature and independence of the judiciary no longer exist in Nigeria.
“Recently, the social media witnessed a viral video of the Chief of Staff to Mr President telling a Reps member to remain in the ADC, fight them and scatter them.”
Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah, has revealed that a conversation with the club’s legend, Steven Gerrard, saw him change his mind about an exit in January.
Salah was ready to quit the Reds after falling out with new manager Arne Slot.
But the 33-year-old made a u-turn following the visit of Gerrard, who urged him to leave Anfield on his own terms.

The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has formally declared his intention to contest again for the state’s top seat in the 2027 general election on the platform of the party.
The declaration was contained in a letter addressed to the PDP leadership at both the state and local government levels.
The document, dated April 30, 2026, was made available to journalists on Friday by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya.
The letter was directed to the Ogun State PDP Chairman through the party’s leadership in Odogbolu Local Government Area.
In the correspondence, Adebutu expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their continued support and loyalty, stressing the importance of unity and a shared vision as preparations begin for the next electoral cycle.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the party and his resolve to provide purposeful leadership to the people of Ogun State.
Adebutu also highlighted his long-standing involvement in the PDP, pointing to his contributions toward strengthening the party’s structure and influence across the state.
Describing himself as a loyal and law-abiding member, he said his decision to re-contest is driven by a desire to build on past experiences and deliver impactful governance.
He outlined continuity, people-focused policies, and inclusive development as central to his agenda.
The PDP chieftain further urged party stakeholders to remain united and focused, noting that internal cohesion would be vital to achieving success in the 2027 polls.
He also pledged to work with all interests within the party to advance a common objective.
Aisha Augie is the Director-General of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC). Appointed by President Bola Tinubu in 2024, she heads the federal government agency responsible for preserving the cultural legacy of FESTAC ’77, among others.
Augie is a professional photographer, filmmaker and artist with over 20 years’ experience. She’s former Special Adviser on Digital Communications to the Minister of Finance and former Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Kebbi State Governor.
A Kebbi indigene, she is the daughter of the late Senator Adamu Baba Augie and retired Justice Amina Augie, and has worked on projects focused on youth and women empowerment in the creative sector.
She spoke with Tayo OLU of THE WHISTLER at Ọjọ Ọjà, a fashion and textile exhibition, on the digitisation of African archives, the role of AI in preserving culture, and preparations for the 50th anniversary of FESTAC. Excerpts:
What Does An Event Like This Mean For CBAAC?
For us at the Center For Black And African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC), anything that projects our culture, that innovates our culture, that preserves our culture, is important to us. We know that there are various kingdoms and emirates and chieftaincies across Nigeria that add value to Africa as a whole. And as a pan-African agency, we love to ensure that the voices of various different cultural entities across Africa are heard.

So when you have an event like this, that not only designates the names of all of the fabrics, but also tells us a bit of the history behind them, and also shows us how generations can earn from having a craft that is almost extinct, we’re very happy to be here, to experience this, and to also hopefully use this opportunity to utilize the knowledge they have to train others for growth.
What Drives Your Passion For African Art And Culture?
Well, for me, I’ve always had a mixed race, mixed tribe, mixed religious background.
So growing up as a child like that, you tend to have a bit of confusion as to who you are or to your identity. And I had to decide who I wanted to be, right? And with people like us, what that does for us, it keeps us open-minded about learning about others, and makes us an example that others should follow.
When you see a new culture, you don’t antagonize, you don’t hate on them, you don’t just create stereotypes as to who a person is just because they’re from a certain tribe.
So, culture has been something that has been personal to me, and I’ve been honored to be able to live a life that supports the growth of culture in Nigeria and Africa, and I continue to do so.
What Is Your Vision For CBAAC?
My vision for CBAAC is for it to become a Pan-African agency, not just a Nigerian agency, but one that actually connects with the rest of the world. We want to be able to be a strong voice for Africa.

We want to continue to advocate for the growth of the creative and cultural economy. We want to be able to add value in preserving and obviously telling the right stories that matter. We believe in oral tradition.We believe in data collection.
And for me, CBAAC needs to become a living, breathing archive, a bigger archive, one that the rest of the world can use to learn about Africa and our peoples.
What Steps Are You Taking To Achieve This?
I’ve already started repositioning CBAAC. It’s been two years in the making. We are digitizing everything. We are ensuring that there’s access to the archives.
It used to be very limited. You had to have been a member of an institution to be able to access the archive. Now it’s open to the general public.
But we are also hoping to have a Pan-African center, which we are already working on. We are also collecting and building more on the archive. People are donating their archives to us.
We’re also working on the road to FESTAG 77, which is FESTAG 77 at 50, which is coming up next year. And we’ve started stakeholder engagements across the world. And our hope is to be able to reconnect Africa and Africans in the diaspora.
We all know the world needs it. Right now, we’re too fragmented. And we hope to see an Africa, or at least be a voice, that reminds Africa of the importance of that unity.
AI Is A Major Topic Globally Today. Is CBAAC Exploring Its Potential, Or Do You See It As A Threat To Art?
No, we don’t see AI as a threat. The truth is, it’s still humans that make the prompts, right? So for us, we’re hoping that we can also be part of the people who are inserting what AI is learning.

Because our own history and culture has always been told to us from the perspective of others. And if we want to take on the AI revolution, it’s flying whether we like it or not, so we have to wake up and ensure that we’re learning.
Our directors and members of our team are actually going through AI training also. So we’re looking at how to ensure that we also are able to reenact stories from the past, visualize them, and tell them in ways that we couldn’t have before without a massive budget. And AI can help us do that.
What Opportunities Exist For Young Creatives Through CBAAC?
We have the Pan-African Indigenous Skills Development Programme (PAID). Right now, we have an initiative already running called “Roots and Roots”. And our hope is for the next batch to finish in July.
We’re also working on another one for the collection and data collection of interior and exterior architecture across Africa.
We’re hoping to build on the ecosystem by training young people in intellectual property. We’ve already started that in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization, where we’re connecting with UNESCO, especially because we have a children’s library. So our hope is to start young.
With technical support from the World Bank, we’re also working on early childhood development, where we actually target the family unit on a long-term approach. And the idea is to have young people creating with the family in mind, creating with the mind of zero to five-year-olds in mind. And we’re working hard to ensure that we’re also being able to get the investors that would support them in that growth through our PAID programme.
Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has revealed that he is the primary cook in his home, saying his wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, does not regularly cook a role he says works perfectly for their marriage.
