Governorship aspirant in Bauchi State, Dr. Nura Manu, has rejected claims of any consensus arrangement among candidates.

The aspirant affirmed his commitment to remain in the race as the primary elections approach.

Following his screening by the party Committee, Manu characterized the process as smooth and engaging, highlighting that committee members posed numerous questions which he addressed satisfactorily.

“The Committee engagement was interactive. They asked a lot of questions and we provided answers to the best of our ability,” he told reporters after the screening. 

He further clarified that the proposed N100 billion fund he aims to secure for the state is not intended for security purposes.

He explained that the fund is aimed at facilitating the commercialization of agriculture and fostering small-scale enterprises as part of his developmental strategy for Bauchi State.

“The N100 billion I am referring to is not for security. It is a fund I plan to bring to the state to bolster agriculture and support small businesses,” he clarified.

Regarding the matter of consensus among aspirants, Manu stated that he is not aware of any such arrangement and dismissed the idea of withdrawing in favor of another candidate.

“I have been preparing for the elections. I have no intention of stepping down for anyone,” he asserted.

The National President of the Igbobi College Old Boys Association, Mr Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, has urged alumni to prioritise legacy-building and collective development, calling on members to support the association’s N10 billion endowment initiative.

He made the call at the 2026 ICOBA 90s Decade Reunion themed “Reconnecting and Strengthening the ICOBA 90s Decade,” where stakeholders emphasised unity, relevance, and long-term impact.

Speaking in a statement on Sunday, signed by ICOBA, he said, “It’s a huge pleasure to be here. Everywhere you go, you are carrying a torch. The question you must always ask yourself is whether you are representing the values of the college in your decisions and actions.”

Badejo-Okusanya stressed that alumni engagement must go beyond social interaction.

“We are here to make a difference and impact lives. The greatest sign of a noble individual is the ability to give and to create a future that others will benefit from.

“What are you building that you may never see, but generations after you will benefit from?” he asked.

Badejo-Okusanya noted that the association is targeting N10bn in funds and plans to take the campaign to the diaspora.

“If you put your money in the endowment, it is forever. Your name will be part of the legacy.

“We are building not just for ourselves, but for the future; we are targeting N10bn,” he added.

The president disclosed that ICOBA had secured over N1bn in cash and pledges towards its endowment fund, with Chapel Hill Denham engaged as fund managers.

“We have agreed with Chapel Hill Denham as fund managers, and they are also putting in a significant sum into the endowment fund,” he said.

He added that a global digital platform had been developed to enable seamless contributions from alumni worldwide.

“This is not just a project for today; it is for generations to come. The same way we are benefiting from what others built, we must also build for those coming after us,” he said.

Also speaking, an alumnus, Mr Sheriff Adekoya, said, “Are you driving alone, or are you pulling a brother along?

“The only shame is going through life’s struggles alone when you are surrounded by people who can help.”

Adekoya also underscored the value of alumni networks. “What we have here is trust forged over years—something most professionals spend their entire careers trying to build. But the question is: are we being purposeful with this network?”

Similarly, the 1990s Decade Representative, Arigbabu Oladele, said the reunion was designed to address disconnection among members.

The event drew participants from across the 1991–1999 sets, reflecting members’ renewed commitment to strengthening ties and contributing to the future of Igbobi College.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the resumption of the third phase of the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise in Ondo State.

According to a statement issued by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, the exercise commenced on Monday, May 11, 2026, and is being conducted nationwide through both online pre-registration and physical, in-person registration.

According to the statement, “the third phase would adopt the IVED rotation framework for the first 40 days of the exercise. The final five days would take place across all the 18 Local Government Area offices of the commission in the state.”

The Commission disclosed that the exercise, which is the final phase of the registration process, is scheduled to conclude on July 10, 2026, in line with its approved timetable.

The statement urged “eligible citizens who are yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity within the stipulated period.”

It also encouraged electorates seeking to update their voter information or transfer their registration details to participate in the exercise.

The commission noted that individuals with missing or defaced Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, could also use the exercise to request replacements.

Agboke also assured residents of adequate arrangements to ensure a smooth and inclusive process.

“INEC in Ondo State is poised to ensure robust public engagement with all the activities of the commission to enhance better participation and awareness,” the statement said.

INEC resumes voter registration exercise in Ondo

The women of Umuariaga community in Ikwuano local government area of Abia State have alleged that the State government is planning to use their farm land for a smart city housing estate, without their knowledge and consent.

The women, who came to the Abia State Government House, Umuahia, in protest, said that the proposed take over of their land would cause hunger in their families as there would be no place for them to cultivate their crops.

The leader of the protesters, Mrs Glory Orji, who spoke on behalf of others, alleged that some individuals who claimed to be agents of Abia State government have been  telling  Umuariaga people that the flat  lands in the community have been earmarked for a proposed government housing estate.

She lamented that the news about the unauthorized takeover of the lands had created tension in the entire Umuariaga community.

The women, who demanded  clarification from the Abia  State government on the project, said it would douse the tension in their villages.

“This is the only flat land we have. If they collect it from us, what will remain for our children?

“If they collect it from us, where are we going to farm and where are we going to feed our families from?” Mrs Orji asked.

The women, who were singing and raising their placards, also lamented that relevant government agencies have not done enough to stop the persistent destruction of their crops by cattle belonging to herdsmen.

They further appealed to Governor Alex Otti to protect indigenous land owners from being stripped of their lands without their consent.

Addressing the women on behalf of the State government, Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Uwaoma Ukandu promised to inform Governor Otti about their complaints.

Ukandu, who appealed to the women to remain peaceful, assured them that the issues they raised  would be investigated and addressed.

The Taraba State Commissioner for Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, has charged principals, invigilators and supervisors across the state to ensure a malpractice-free conduct of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Dr. Godwin gave the charge on the weekend during the WAEC 2026 sensitization meeting organised for principals, invigilators and supervisors from Lau, Karim Lamido, Jalingo and Ardo-Kola Local Government Councils. The meeting was held on Saturday at the Government Technical and Training School, Jalingo.

Speaking, the commissioner stressed the importance of professionalism, discipline and integrity in the administration of the examination. She noted that the Taraba State Government, under Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, remains committed to promoting quality education and restoring public confidence in the examination system.

She warned examination officials and school administrators against all forms of examination malpractice and urged them to strictly comply with WAEC rules and guidelines.

“Taraba State must continue to stand out in academic excellence through hard work and credibility. We must collectively ensure zero malpractice during the conduct of WAEC examinations,” she stated.

On his part, the WAEC Branch Controller in the state commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his continued support for the education sector.

According to him, Governor Kefas is the first governor in the state to clear all 2026 WAEC-related fees, a move he said had eased the burden on parents and boosted students’ participation in external examinations.

The branch controller also praised the governor for donating a utility van to the WAEC office and for providing other forms of support aimed at improving the operations of the examination body in the state.

The sensitization meeting was observed to have attracted principals, invigilators and supervisors from secondary schools across Lau, Karim Lamido, Jalingo and Ardo-Kola Local Government Councils.

 Commissioner urges zero malpractice in WAEC examination

Former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan, is seeking a return to the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections after regaining his civil and political rights following conviction on bribery charges.

Lawan, who previously represented Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency in Kano State, has successfully scaled the screening process of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emerged as the preferred candidate of party stakeholders from Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas.

His renewed political ambition comes after a legal battle that lasted more than a decade over his involvement in the 2012 fuel subsidy bribery scandal.

Lawan had chaired the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the multi-billion-naira fuel subsidy regime at the time. He was accused of demanding a $3 million bribe from billionaire businessman Femi Otedola to remove Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited from the list of firms indicted by the committee over alleged fuel subsidy fraud.

The former lawmaker was later convicted in the bribery case and served a prison sentence before receiving presidential pardon and clemency in October 2025 after completing his five-year jail term in 2024.
